Thought I'd start the match thread early with the news that football is returning to the Swansway! Please get down to support the lads after a month with no gate income at the club. Let's get a really good gate Saturday. BPA have made an incredible start to the season and sit third in the table so it's going to be tough but I'm going for an exciting 2-2 draw with Dudley and Mahon scoring. 2,196 attendance with 78 BPA. UP THE SEALS Almost got the Guiseley prediction right and this one of an exciting 2-2 with Dudley and Mahon scoring wasn’t too bad 👀 just need to sort this defence out. Mahon, Hughes and Mooney looking lively.

We are going to concede a lot of goals this season, defence looks so shaky. Smalley looks scared and Howson, despite making his headers is looking around like he’s lost.
It’s only HT but there’s plenty of more goals in this, probably 4-5 to Bradford. It’s that type of league.

The deadly duo need to quickly show they have some idea as to how to make us look more assured back there. We look slow and disorganised. We haven't looked as threatening since going 3-1 up and we need to go again now, every chance they'll score another. At least.

Worrying that results, performances, and recruitment since the first home match has reduced the home attendance by 500.

Worrying that results, performances, and recruitment since the first home match has reduced the home attendance by 500. Hardly surprising...inevitable. The 8-1 drubbing probably accounts for most of them.

Glad to here the Chronicle are referring to Mahon's performance as sublime. Some on here had written him off.

Glad to here the Chronicle are referring to Mahon's performance as sublime. Some on here had written him off. Nobody wrote him off. Many wrote off his ability to stay fit though. He’s one of my personal faves but even I’ve had fitness doubts, and rightly so he’s not had a run of games in two years. Superb today though. Scoring 5 goals against a side as good as BPA isn’t an easy feat. If we can sort the defensive mistakes we’ll be a force this season. 2W 2D 2L I’d probably have taken that given the tough start. Onwards and upwards.

It’s such a pleasure to be able to bask in this result.
I think we’ll have to score 5 quite often if we’re going to continue to win games though.
C’mon you Blues

Can’t believe I’m going to post it, but I’d it worth giving GR a go at right back as he played there before coming to us? I don’t see how Burton could be taken out of this side, stopforth is the engine, Roberts is class but at the moment I wouldn’t change who we have. Don Smalley has struggled a lot in some games and seems to be at fault for a goal a game!

For the first time in ages today was worth every penny of the 15 squids. Absolute thriller made so by both teams a) going for it and b) looking extremely wobbly in defence. In truth, we deserved it but it easily could have gone the other way.
Quite a few players played particularly well including Mahon, Hughes and Mooney but the whole team should be receiving praise tonight. At times we looked formidable especially going forward (2nd goal a prime example), other times we looked a bit nervous and panicky but a performance like this can only improve the confidence of the team which, a few forget, is still gelling.
Crowd responded well both when we fell behind and when we pushed on towards the end - yet again, a sign that we appreciate endeavour and positive play and will accept the odd error - a situation we rarely, if ever, saw last season.
Consolidate with another positive performance and result on Tuesday and I feel we will have genuinely turned a corner.
Still early days but, for once, a nice warm feeling on a Saturday night.

I thought there was more in the ground than 1600 odd, big up for the fans today I thought they stayed with the team even when it was 3-3 which gave us the chance to come back.

I think we're just too used to games like that, which arguably could have gone either way, going against us for one reason or another. At 3-3 it was tough to pick a winner. As you say, it's a nice feeling that it we did it. Mahon, Dudley, Mooney and Hughes could be a real threat to opposition this year if we could just keep them fit. They can break quickly and with purpose, we just need to be a bit cuter with that final ball sometimes is all I'd say.

Really enjoyed that game today. Defensively we were all over the place, at times. Dom Smalley certainly had a game to forget and not sure he is up to this level. That said going forward we were excellent, with plenty of pace penetration and creativity. I have been critical of Mahon, but he was outstanding today and had an end product. If he stays fit and plays like that, he will be one of the best players, in this league. Also, impressed with Mooney Hughes and Dudley. Also, thought that the substitutons were spot on. Pritchard worked well down the left flank, Smalley held the ball up well and the new lad (Luke Jordan) was lighting quick, earning us the late penalty. Lets get another win on Tuesday.

For a club that was worried about its attack - after changing almost all of the brilliant first team near the end, the replacements did just as well. Seems we have two squads of strikers actually!
Shame we don’t have one squad of defenders. That needs looking at. If we could get that sorted, the only way is up but I’m the meantime we need to get to be harder to score against.
Some of our attacking movement was sublime. It helped that Bradford were less physical than Guisley. I dont think I’ve seen movement and passing like that by us (and been so entertained) in the last 3-4 seasons. Long may it continue.
Now let’s not “do a Chester” and completely f@@k up Tuesday night and lose all this enthusiasm and momentum.

Plenty of positives outweigh the negatives for once, Shenton and Smalley make me nervous but the attack today were lethal and the subs were spot on.

Cracking entertainment today and lots of signs that we are moving forward.
Thought Hughes, Mahon and Mooney were excellent (good job Mooney put his second in the bottom corner because Hughes was wide open in the penalty box and would have gone mental if he'd missed, and Dudley had a very good second half in particular. The new lad look liked he might be a player when he came on (definite dive for the pen, I couldn't believe the ref gave it). Definite issues in defence where Smalley was unconvincing at times as was Shenton.
Best thing about today though was the fact that we went down 1-0 dead early, but showed character to come back and then another good reaction when they go it back to 3-3.
We are moving in the right direction - the team looked like a team and everyone worked their asses off on the pitch. Looking forward to Tuesday now.
The pen if you are interested.
