The issue with Dom Smalley and possibly Shenton could be that they can’t deal with the larger crowds and expectation that comes with it. I think Morley aluded to this in his post match interview. Time will tell, but I doubt that the fans getting on their backs at every opportunity will help them. To be fair, I don’t think the crowd were getting on their backs yesterday. Or certainly not around me, anyway. I don’t think it’s unreasonable as supporters to expect better than some of the errors we’ve been seeing. Bradford’s third goal was horrific.

True enough but a big job in that position is to prevent crosses coming in to the box from out wide. Not only does he struggle to do that but they often go around him with too much ease. Not saying there's no role for him but there's also no point playing there if you can't cut crosses out.

Shenton was nowhere near as bad as some are making him out to have been, needs to keep hold of the ball though.
Smalley had a shocker but he had a really good game at Guiseley. There’s a player there & I’d be against dropping him just yet.
Howson looked better but it seems like everyone time he clears it it drops to an opposition player.
Moran looked shaky but he needs games.
Grand is class.
Burton & Stopforth did well again.
Mahon & Mooney both caused the opposition no end of issues though both needed too many chances to make it count.
Hughes had his best game this season for me.
Deadly Dudley looks better & better
Dean Smalley did well when he came on & is exactly what we’re missing; a big, strong centre forward who plays with his back to goal.
Jordan also impressed me when he came on, looks a quick & tricky player.

Thought we had loads to be positive about today. Looked like scoring every time we went forward. I was personally most impressed with Matty hughes. Thought he dropped in to get on it loads and linked up play brilliantly. Hopefully dean smalley can get match fit. Defensively we do look poor and actually thought BPA were stupid to go long as we found it easier in the air in my eyes. If anyone from FCUM was there today then I guess a lot of there work will be on exploiting Dom Smalley. Made numerous mistakes today. I haven’t been at hands where he has featured but can’t be long till he’s givinh young Thomson a go. Reports on here have always been good. Anyway a good result against a side that will do well Spot on - Matty Hughes (despite not scoring) would’ve been my man of the match. He never gives up and that keeps defenders worried. Dom has we worried. He drifts into the centre and the amount of times he was 10yds away from his man when they received a ball was worrying. It made him easy to beat as he had to keep steaming in. I’m not that convinced but if he just stayed within 3yds of his man when defending (preferably goal side!) we should see an improvement.

Time will tell, but I doubt that the fans getting on their backs at every opportunity will help them. When he had his 25 second horror show, you should have heard the fully grown men giving him absolute dogs abuse in the Harry McNally terrace. Really personal and aggressive stuff. Grown men! I could half understand if it was Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, or some other wage thief, but Dom Smalley gives it absolutely everything he has for the cause. I'm not saying that's enough, and if he's not good enough then ship him out but to abuse one of our own like that is just embarrassing.

Yes i heard similar, also heard abuse at Shenton when the 3rd goal went in, give the lad a chance, really not helping them one little bit. Best bit is some are clapping and shaking there hands in the bar after.

At the level of football we're playing, it's not really the done thing to berate and abuse players in the way some of our fans are doing. It's a hangover from the expectations that come from watching the professional game, and probably even filters down from pub culture and how worked up people get when they watch Premier League football.
Fans who have always watched football at this level know that the players are not superstars or millionaires and will make mistakes. We're watching sixth-tier football now and I think some of our supporters need to remember this.

Shenton really needs to sort his handling out. Several times in pre-season and the 3rd goal against Bradford. Goalkeeper position is so key and unfortunately he may be a nice lad but that position is going to cost us 10-15 points this season. I waited until I saw the goal again on TV before commenting and it's just simple basics of catching the ball.

I suspect Shenton, along with Smalley, is who Morley was talking about in his post match interview when talking about players making the same mistakes not being here much longer unless they shape up. There's a decent keeper there, but he badly needs some specialist coaching in terms of clearing the ball. Now we are part time I doubt we have the luxury of being able to assign a goalkeeping coach to spend a lot of time fine tuning his game, so he may well be ousted. I reckon the lad who came in last week was to show that there is viable competition and the managers want to see how Shenton responds to that. You feel like its a big game for him tonight. The same with Smalley too, although after his horror show on Saturday I can't help feeling it might be best to take him out of the firing line for now.
Agree with the comments about abuse though, makes me uncomfortable hearing it. We're 6th tier now, we have to make accommodations for that.

Wow just looked up the stats on that season and we scored 119 goals in the league. We also beat Wrexham 6-1 at home in front of nearly 15,000! How things have changed.

For the first time in a very long time I really enjoyed the game saturday, yes it helps we were on the end of an 8 goal thriller but its the most entertaining football i have witnessed since Steve Burr was in charge. Give it time and the defence will get better, we have options at the back but we just need time to gel and cut the mistakes out. Shenton at fault for the third for them, poor handling, Smalley at fault for the first got done to easy, Moran for the second got done.
Moran was quality at Guiseley, Smalley seems to be struggling for fitness and probably needs more minutes to get to grips with the league. The rest of the team looked a lot better, i do think we may caught out against the better sides with just Stopforth and Burton in the middle but we have the Blacon Pirlo to bring in to give us a solid three if needs be. Matty Hughes look real bright on saturday alongside Dudley, with Mahony and Mooney who looked lively at Guiseley having more end product this time around. Bern and Johno know what they want but we just have to get behind them and let them crack on with it.
Same team again Tuesday for me with decent strength and depth on the bench to bring on.
