Chester FC will be going back in time on December 1st when they take on old League rivals Darlington in the National League North encounter at the Swansway Chester Stadium.
A ‘Retro’ theme has been declared for the day of the game, by the club’s Fan Engagement Working Group.
The theme includes admission prices that reflect prices back in the day, with Adults admission reduced to £10, Concessions £5, and Under 18s £1 with under 5’s free. The prices will apply to all parts of the ground.
Jeff Banks, director of Fan Engagement has called on fans of both sets of clubs to take part, “The FEWG have been working hard to bring some quality themes to matchday this season and given we used to enjoy some great Football League matches with Darlo, we thought this was an ideal opportunity to bring back the past for a day!’
Matchday will take on a unique feel, with a retro matchday programme, some fantastic prizes for our half time entertainment thanks to Buy Clever Stuff, and deals to be had in the Blues Bar and in the kiosks too.
Banks also wants fans to wear their old shirts for the match too, “We want fans to dig out their old Chester and Darlington tops for the game, let’s have a bit of fun with it!”
“As we’re going back in time, I’d also like to ask fans to bring someone who hasn’t been to a game in the last few years to the Swansway on the 1st December. We need roughly an extra 300 on the average attendance to make this work so I ask everyone to do their bit!”
There will also be competitions on our social media channels to win tickets for this game too, so lots to look forward to!

Evening all...
Just wanted to jump on this thread to ask everyone to help by doing their bit for this game.
We've (FEWG) come up with a theme with plenty of things planned, we've had great support so far and now need everyone else to play a part in bringing people down to the match.
Do you know people who haven't been for a while? Ask them or even bring them down with you to the match.
The plan is to enjoy the day and have a buzz around the matchday experience.
Anywhere in the ground for a tenner for adults, anywhere in the ground for a fiver for concessions, and anyone under the age of 18 for just a quid!!
We will be going big with both online and written press coverage of this so please support it as best you can.

If your not on Chesters Facebook, Twitter etc you won't have a clue who we're playing on sat never mind reduced prices. So bearing this in mind for next time we do an offer why don't we spread the word by getting into the schools,university,college posters at the train and bus station. Just my thought but I bet most think it. I'd do whatever the club asked me to do so I could get a full stadium. |

Needs to be atleast 2 or 3 posts on twitter and Facebook every day of the week Posters around town Posters given in schools Emails sent out to everyone on the clubs database Etc etc If this is done properly it will be a really good success |

Someone like Andy Crosby that played for both would've been perfect if he wasn't a bit busy being AM at Hull!
Robbie Painter, Gregg Blundell and Drewe Broughton are a few others that coms to mind. Is Dom Collins still there?
Anyone think of anyone else who played for both?

Not one of them new about it. So let's leave that and move on. I went to speak to the manager and asked her roughly how many people play there weekly. She guessed about 3,000 a week play there. I asked her if the football club had asked if they could promote anything at goals. We know the answer. For God's sake it's across the road and there's approx 3,000 a week there. Surely the club could promote something over there. What's the point of let's tweet this let's tweet that. It clearly doesn't work as the gates aren't getting any better. Don't get me wrong I'm not criticising anyone about the retro day but shouldn't the ideas be let's get out there and promote it not just the die hards on DC or tweet. Someone said earlier there's 38,000 signed up. Where are they then. I asked 9 middle aged men last night and 4 young staff at goals and none of them new about the Darlo game. |

Would cost us less of Stuart's money than having to purchase land and build our own facility and have to staff it etc. A bolt on to an existing football facility next door to the club would surely be beneficial to Goals and Chester. |

I posted this on OneFootballForum yesterday and the response has been fantastic. Up until now they have 4 coaches coming and a total of 400 expected to travel. They'll be very thirsty too.

Not keen on the programme cover for the game,should of used a programme cover from the 70s or 80s, York are doing a retro cover for each different home game this season as it's there last at bootham crescent, fair dos they look brilliant.

I can't comment on when the last time that was, it may have been via commercial or via the community trust, I don't know but can certainly find out. We did look into the possibility of a full size pitch there a few years ago but this was not possible and of course since then it's become the car dealership. A training set up at goals would only have worked if a full size pitch would have been possible as the players need to have 11 v 11 sessions. This was something discussed and felt by Neil Young when he was here. 5 a side and 7 a side pitches were just not worthwhile to what the management team needed. Getting back to 'ask a mate' we need to do all kinds of these things to try and attract back the fans who used to come, I do feel that once back and they enjoy the matchday experience then the hook is there again. Hearing good things from Darlington fans about next week's match and hopefully they'll travel in numbers and a cracking atmosphere can be had at the Deva. Hopefully this thread will build over one page as this really is a feel good initiative coming from fans who are on the FEWG and trying to come up with ideas that will help the club. Seeing other threads with 7 pages on then seeing this one with only 1 page can pull you down so please everyone let's start bigging the Retro theme up and make this an enjoyable occasion. The social media coverage has started and is ongoing, the written press and radio will also be going with it next week, all we need is the message to be out there as far and wide as possible. We've also had some great interest in this from the likes of retro based companies so this is gaining momentum. Sorry to harp on but the gist of this post is contact may have been made with the likes of Goals, but just because things haven't turned out as suggested doesn't mean that it's not been discussed or developed further. Seeing other threads with 7 pages on then seeing this one with only 1 page can pull you down so please everyone let's start bigging the Retro theme up and make this an enjoyable occasion. The social media coverage has started and is ongoing, the written press and radio will also be going with it next week, all we need is the message to be out there as far and wide as possible. We've also had some great interest in this from the likes of retro based companies so this is gaining momentum. Sorry to harp on but the gist of this post is contact may have been made with the likes of Goals, but just because things haven't turned out as suggested doesn't mean that it's not been discussed or developed further. And let's try and keep this thread a positive one! Jeff Another point is (a point which I think 1967 was trying to make re the kids at Goals) , maybe not so much using the facilities at Goals, but they have such a decent footfall that surely a presence could be established there. Flyers, posters, CFU and JBs forms etc. I can't see why that would be too hard to negotiate. Us and them are not in direct competition, we don't offer the same product. Perhaps a reciprocal arrangement could be made? A CFC presence on site at Goals in return for a advertising board? |
