Although we could only draw against Southport yesterday, we are still in the hat for the FA Trophy 1st Round draw which will take place at 14:30 tomorrow. The ties will commence on Saturday 15th December, whilst this draw will be regionalised again so we wouldn’t have to travel too far if we are to win the replay on Tuesday. Teams from the National League will enter at this stage, so we could be pitting our wits against the likes of Chesterfield, Hartlepool United or even our friends down the A483.
Providing we win Tuesday’s match of course, I’d prefer us to be drawn against some of the lower sides in the earlier rounds to gain momentum as we missed out on a good run in the FA Cup. The likes of Stratford Town, Basford United and Farsley Celtic are still participating in this competition so hopefully we will be matched up with them to avoid the likes of Altrincham, Barrow and Blyth Spartans. In typical Chester fashion I predict us to be drawn away at Workington which would make for an interesting journey. Hopefully we will get past Southport first to look forward to the 1st Round.

Southport haven't won a home game all season, but their away record is decent, so don't expect us to routinely win on Tuesday. I would still make Southport favourites.

Hannibal, we are playing Southport on Tuesday not Southampton. You know the team who have not so “nice guy” Jon as Assistant to the permatanned PPI cold caller and who’s peculiar looking fans think we are their rivals but we couldn’t give a crap about them.

Drawing our neighbours from over the border today would enliven tomorrow night's replay . . .

Literally the worst draw I can think of. No away fans and 5th in the league above.

Spennymoor away or Barrow away would have been worse.

Not a great draw. Maybe their focus will be on the league though.

Well that’s certainly a very uninspiring draw for us if we are to get through. Solihull Moors have surprised a lot of people this season due to them being 5th in the league above and are by no doubt backed heavily. They have a very small fanbase too so wouldn’t take many. Our home record still reads for 1 defeat though, so we wouldn’t have loads to fear of but the general consensus of playing against Solihull makes this draw one of the worst possible. Hopefully we will get past Southport tomorrow, despite our reward looking very grim for us. COYB 🔵⚪️🏆!

Not a great draw. Maybe their focus will be on the league though. They won't be too fussed about this, so no big deal if Southport beat us tomorrow, although shame about the pennies.

A frightening thought that we are currently considered to be an inferior club to Solihull Moors.

Think some people need to lighten up a bit. It’s a home draw, stranger things have happened than us winning it. They will be looking at our record of one home defeat all season and will be expecting a difficult game.
The draw is completely random anyway, so this is just undirected moaning.

A frightening thought that we are currently considered to be an inferior club to Solihull Moors. Solihull is one of those clubs for which I have a slightly irrational dislike, based on our consistent failure to beat them, their postponement of the first game of last season - which set the tone for a dismal campaign - their rubbish crowds and their dismal ground. It grates that they are going well in the national league and I wish them nothing but ill. In the words of Kevin Keegan, I would love it, absolutely love it if we turned them over (assuming we beat Southport, which I am certainly not taking for granted). I really think we should take the Trophy seriously...there's decent prize money and because other teams don't seem that bothered it gives us the only chance we will have of ever getting a sniff of Wembley

Solihull is probably the worst home draw we could have had. However, there are two possible up sides. Firstly, a lot of teams around the top of the National League rest a number of players in the Trophy. Secondly, and probably more interesting, is to see how this team looks against a top National League side.
It's 50/50 whether we get to find out though.

Should we get through tonight then it’s probably in our best interests that Solihull knock Blackpool out of the FA Cup before we play them. That would mean the Trophy is a mere third in their priorities behind a promotion push and the FA Cup. No guarantees they would take it easy though.

Didn't we play AFC Fylde's shadow squad last season?
