It’s more the fact you openly admitted you hadn’t been to see Chester for over a season but seem to enjoy gloating when things don’t go well for us. It’s your perogative to not support the team but why the need to come on here and take the piss out of the club? I don't think its taking the piss personally, nor do I enjoy Chester loosing its more dismay at the way things have panned out. But ill not comment on loss from now on. Tbh I think proclaiming the season over when we're sat 6th in the table and it's not even Christmas is taking the piss

People don't half talk some bollocks once we start losing a few games. It’s says something when optimists like me are predicting losses recently though. We've had 2, possibly 3 chances this month to hit the top spot, but by 5.00 pm on Saturday I fear we won't even be in the top 7. Reminds me of about this time of the year when we beat Orient 1-0 at Brisbane Road to go 2nd and it was 3 months before we won another game picking up 1 point from 51 in the meantime..

Well that was dreadful. We were poor & so were they. There were spells where we played good football but they were completely overshadowed. Grand gives the ball away almost every single time he plays it long & it’s getting old now. Appreciate he’s not a full back but his distribution is awful. Luke Jordan didn’t beat a man or complete a pass tonight by my count. He did manage to get a couple of crosses in but none that landed. Positives were Thompson & Marsh-Hughes, both played well & neither looked out of place & Gary Roberts did a good job backing up Thompson when required. Marsh-Hughes’ mazy run & slide rule pass were absolute quality & it was a shame Smalley couldn’t finish. Absolutely gutted that I’ve got to spend Boxing Day & NYD watching us play Southport again. Thomson got owned by their No.9 first half. He was OK in possession (other than the potentially suicidal back pass to Archer late on). Not quite at the level yet - but worth persevering with. We're in a pub league, so yes I know where we are. Love the lecture on attendance from an uber fan who goes a hand full of games a season. I have been to double the games over the last 30 years than you, if not more. But hey-how if it REALLY bothers you perhaps I should leave you to your echo chamber ? Why do you come on here? Although we were below par (I don't think I've ever seen us pass the ball straight out of play as much!), they only created chances though our gifts (for both goals and once again in the second half).
It suggests to me that defensively we're well set up - the flip side is that we're not scoring at the moment. Hopefully a new arrival will breath life into us as.
It staggers me to see people say otherwise on here, but the season is still very much alive.
One of my absolute pet hates... why did we only get 1 minute stoppage time in the first half? The physio came on the pitch twice to treat players and the ball was booted out the stadium a couple of times. Very annoying!

Disappointing low gate last night. We have clearly hit a bit of a sticky patch. Perhaps it’s fortunate that these two Southport games are not league fixtures. Hopefully we can get back on track against Darlo on Saturday. BM has said he’s hopeful of bringing a couple in perhaps today. Let’s hope so. We remain reasonably solid defensively it seems. For me Hughes is a big miss. With him in the side it’s much harder for teams to double up on our main threats going forward. There is no doubt that we could do with attacking options that are not fairly anonymous in games to try and eliminate having two or three players man marking Mooney. Disappointing to have missed out on the £. That said sadly we are some way behind Moors at present. Don’t think we would of stood much chance in that fixture. We are well placed in this league and can now focus entirely on it. That may just hopefully work in our favour come the spring.

Roberts will be serving his 1 match suspension so I'd start him.

I disagree. Their number 9 had the beating of Thompson for pace & strength but Thommo managed to keep him quiet more or less & he was probably their best player for me. I really rate Noble so I’d love to see him get more game time & I think Robbo is only just about getting match fit now. He & Stopforth could definitely do with a rest.

I said after the first Southport game that teams are working us out in that starving our wide players makes us completely ineffective.
I am worried about the management's attitude to youth. Iwan was playing in our good spell when we were beating Kiddy, BPA etc but been binned off, Cain Noble, despite (as said many times) having played and done well in the league above can't buy a game despite the Gary's being goosed and LMH consistently overlooked.
Don't start complaining about lack of resources when you're not utilising those at your disposal.
Our team is solid, workmanlike as expected but it needs a number 10 or a striker to stretch defences otherwise we are very easy to defend against. I don't buy that the players form has dropped, ultimately we're playing the same way, but being done tactically - stopping the opposition playing is JM's forte if you recall.

Left the game last night feeling totally ambivalent about the result as we have a tiny squad and we look knackered. An extra game and inevitable defeat against Solihull would’ve been pointless. What we should have done however, is start Cain & Marsh-Hughes. Not a league game, crap draw to follow, not a big crowd in and minimal pressure. Ideal to play them. It’s apparent that our issue at the moment is lack of depth, there’s no excuse not to go into the youth team to look for it.

Also, as someone pointed out, probably the last time we see Luke Jordan as he ‘had a Liam Davies’ last night. However, no issue with him playing as that was what last night was for.

Oh hang on, 3 of them are not ‘one of our own’ Just to be picky Ian, two of those lads aren't technically our players
Still though I'd like to have Cain Noble and Lloyd Marsh-Hughes in there, we've seen glimpses of these lads in the youth setup playing against lads in established youth academies in the FA Youth Cup run, we've seen glimpses of them in the level above, and both lads looked more than capable at Conference level.
If we don't give these lads, and in that I mean OUR youth products, more of an opportunity to develop at first team level with playing time in the first team, then they will end of going elsewhere to get that experience when their contracts eventually run out. Our loss then will be someone else's financial gain.

I get signing players who they know and who they know can do a job at the right end of a tough league, of course, but have a flourishing academy here - Noble has played (and scored) in the league above as a 17-year old for example and LMH looks an absolute beast. Agree also that the opposition stopping, in particular, Dan Mooney, has effectively killed us off in games. Mooney isn't actually our player don't forget.

Ok, I think you’re missing my point - The poster said ‘I am worried about the management's attitude to youth‘. I was highlighting that last night contained players of ‘youth age’ which counteracts that argument/statement. In fact, the amount of younger players used this season by the managers compared to any other team in our league is staggering! Just feels like another stick to beat the managers/team with.

Would you also then say because Matt Waters and Nathan Brown have both scored in the league above they should be playing?

Waters, for me, has missed the boat with us. He's 20 now, and it doesn't seem to have worked for him. I would however like to see more of Brown as, despite his diminutive stature, he's shown flashes that he can change a game.

It's fair to say that with Dudley as the only threat up front then teams are doing their homework and realising that by cutting off the supply line (Mooney and Mahon) then we have little else to try and open them up with. Just over a month ago Mooney and Mahon were the best wingers in the league, but all of a sudden they are being doubled up on and far less effective. They either have to be more clever to try and find space, or we need a credible option to play up with Dudley to occupy defenders and free up space elsewhere.
In terms of youth, the managers gave Iwan Murray a few games but particularly in the last couple of showings he was nowhere near the required standard and constantly gave the ball away in dangerous areas. He has something about him but needs to go out and play games at a lower level where he can learn the game in a less pressurised environment. It's probably now or never for Brown, who has had a couple of loan spells and needs to come back and make an impact. Waters just isn't good enough. I think most are in agreement that Noble and LMH are worth some game time which they will hopefully get given that we have a hectic festive schedule coming up. I'm all for giving kids a chance but we have to remember that without a reserve team its a huge step up from kids football to National League North and whilst some look great at that level they might need a gradual adaptation to this level if they are to eventually make it. I can't think of too many times when chucking a kid in has really worked - it took a few months for Sam to establish himself in the team and that was also after an unremarkable loan spell at Witton. Plus the managers are under pressure to deliver results, there is a balancing act between giving youth a proper go and maybe trusting some experienced pro's to go and get a result. If they started LMH and Noble on Saturday then would we cut the managers some slack if we fell to another defeat?

The managers have given a number of youth players their chances. Most have come in and done well for a game or two, then their performance has dropped off markedly.
Ewan Murray did this. He was invisible at Chorley and the game after. Rightly he returned to the bench. Thompson wasn't great at Dunston. Did really well Saturday, but made a number of basic mistakes last night, that would have been punished by a better team. He'll learn, but will need to be eased in to the side. Nathan Brown tends to disappear in games too.
Cain Noble is a real prospect but we have Stopforth and Roberts there. They've been playing well, in the main. I'd expect Noble to start Saturday, unless we bring a centre mid player in this week. Either way, he'll be starting sooner rather than later. He need to be eased in and out through the season. Probably when Robbo is suspended.
Lloyd Marsh-Hughes needs easing in too. Same as Cain he's a real prospect and needs to be brought on at the right place for him.
As Ian says, I've not seen young players in many of the opposition teams. Put too many in too quickly and it's tough for them. Then performance drops. I think our managers are getting the balance about right. They've given them a chance, then taken them out again when performance drops.

I think Waters, if fit should be in with a shout. Full back is probably our most troublesome position this season & Waters at least gives us another option. Grand is obviously much more experienced & physically imposing but Waters would offer something different to pumping the ball to an opponent’s head.
Brown I feel for because he’s clearly a classy player but I think he’ll always struggle to get a game at this level due to his size.
Some suggested that Noble & LMH might have not been getting a look in so as not to affect the youth team’s cup run. Fair enough IMO, especially as we weren’t struggling at the time. However the youth are now out of the cup & we are struggling, they are our two most exciting youth prospects & they both play in positions where we’re struggling for depth. If you’re going to give Jordan a start last night, which is completely understandable, then those two should both have played as well.

Agreed. The whole online world (especially social media) is a disastrous addition to our lives in many ways. I wish people would just give it a break. Sadly in football, there is one team in every league that will win the title, another one will go up in the play-offs and the other 20 odd teams will have no success. You have to have something special to be at the top and it is obvious that we aren't quite there yet. We just have to enjoy the ride and be thankful that we do have two passionate guys doing their best with little money to put an entertaining team together. We have to trust them, get behind them and hope we may just flirt with the play-offs this year and not suffer our usual Christmas time implosion. I guess the only way we are going to be signing players is by getting down to watch the matches in numbers (win, lose or draw) and do everything we can as fans and owners to raise additional funds. I would love to go up this year and should it happen, I would be as happy as anyone but similarly, it wouldn't be a disaster to finish in a respectable top half position with the view to really strengthen for a stronger push next year. I fear we are a long way from being able to compete in the Conference again at the moment anyway. Our supporters though isn't it. Lose a couple of games and they go nuts, win a couple of games and we're going to piss this poxy league.. And its the same people doing it time and time again. You'd think, given that the average supporter here has been following the club for around 25-30 years, that we'd be strong enough character wise to take a couple of defeats on the chin. After all, given what we've seen during our time as supporters what is a couple of defeat really mean? Squad needs strengthening yes, and the managers are working on that currently. People need to take a deep breath on here and the social media accounts before going off on one making stupid arsed comments about every defeat being the "worst I've ever seen" and then threatening to "not return for a long time". Its quite frankly pathetic behaviour The prospects for next season in terms of teams joining us are looking pretty good to be honest, Conference relegation zone is dominated by Southern sides so chances are we’ll just get some teams from Conference South joining us. Scarborough, Nantwich, Gainsborough, Farsley and Warrington competing for promotion to join us and I don’t foresee any of those being a threat. So I see another season with no stand out side.

I’ve just read a tweet from Marine saying their under 19’s game with Chester FC under 19’s is postponed today. Perhaps why Cain and LMH didn’t get much opportunity last night - but now today’s game is off that may give them a proper opportunity on Saturday? Gary Roberts is suspended so surely Cain is going to be played alongside Stopforth? I’d just go back to a 442, giving Dudley more support with the new striker or Marsh-Hughes alongside him.

I’ve heard there are clubs much higher up the pyramid looking at Cain already and one wants him in January.

Don't see much of the first goal there but from what little we see, Shenton's effort to get near it seems token at best. Terrible misjudgement if he did indeed think it was going over.

Oh I agree we do need them, the thing is though with Che is that he's admitted he's given up and seemingly found other things to do on a Saturday. He's a lost cause. We need to be concentrating our efforts on getting the next generation of young supporter down, not trying to pander to those who have already abandoned the club
