Following a disappointing result the other night we are back at the Swansway tomorrow where we host Darlington at home. November has mostly been a forgettable month for us so hopefully the festive period will promise a lot more as we are still in a healthy position in the league. Tomorrow’s game will have a special retro theme to it where supporters are encouraged to wear old Chester FC/City shirts with the admission prices also set to be reduced. This should attract a healthy attendance so it’s inportant that our lads do the business on the pitch to encourage some of our supporters to come back.
Overall it was rather frustrating to get knocked out of the FA Trophy at the first attempt with no money in the bank, but I suppose all we have to focus on now is the league and potentially the Cheshire Cup. A slight worry is the fact we have only scored a solitary goal in the last 450 minutes, so hopefully today will be the day where we bring in a couple of additions to freshen our squad ready for this vital match. Anthony Dudley clearly needs a partner up top to give him support so that he can be back and amongst the goals.
Darlington will be making the journey from County Durham having made a rather inconsistent start to the season. They have only won 4 matches and sit just 3 points above the relegation zone, but have drew a large proportion of their matches so will be no pushovers. Darlo have a decent away record though and are expecting to take a good following which will add to the atmosphere. Just like ourselves, Darlington have been covered in there fair share of turmoil over the past 2 decades as in 2003 they moved from there old Feethams home to the Darlington Arena which cost them a lot financially. Back in 2012 they were liquidated which forced them to be known as Darlington 1883, although last year they were allowed to revert back to Darlington FC. During 2012-16 they had to groundshare with Bishop Auckland before moving back to Darlington to play at Blackwell Meadows, which is an awful ground compared to Feethams and the Darlington Arena. Us and Darlo have had plenty of meetings in the Football League before so tomorrow’s game should be interesting.
We have to get back on track tomorrow so that we can gain a bit more breathing space again. Hopefully we will bring in a couple of players today to give our squad a boost, although we haven’t won in 5 hence we have to win this game. I fully believe that we will turn things round again, therefore I expect us to scrape this game by the skin of our teeth. To be honest I don’t care how many we win by - a win is a win for me as 3 points will do us the world of good. Come On City!
Score: Chester FC (Livesey) 1-0 Darlington
Attendance: 2,130 (417 Darlington)
