Noble was at fault for their goal
Excellent result against 12 men
Stuart Rimmer was the last debut hat-trick according to Dave Powell

Thought Matty Thompson and Cain Noble were excellent today.
Young lads are always going to make the odd mistake but both of them grew into the game.

Thought Darlington supporters were a credit to lower league football. Turned up in numbers, vocal support and incredibly generous in the collection for Matty Hughes.

Thought Matty Thompson and Cain Noble were excellent today. Young lads are always going to make the odd mistake but both of them grew into the game. I wasn't quite sure about Matty when I first saw him this season but he's getting better the more game time he gets, he had a good game in an otherwise poor team performance on Tuesday and today I thought he was better again. Cain for me is what's been missing over recent weeks, someone to drive us forward, great energy in the middle of the park, yes made the odd mistake but a good game none the less. Hopefully he gets some more minutes cos I think he could be a quality player going forward.

Thoroughly enjoyable game today with 4 superb goals. I almost forgot we were down to 10 men during the second half such was the performance of the players. Everyone worked incredibly hard, Mahon especially covered every single blade of grass. But he was overshadowed by a terrific performance from Asante, can't ask for much more than a hat trick on debut! It wasn't just the goals that impressed me either, his all round game looks very good, looks to have the complete package. The turn to take out two defenders for his second goal was sublime. It's only one game and he needs to carry on his form, but hopefully he'll prove to be the missing cog we've been looking for since Hughes' injury.
Darlington fans were an absolute credit, turned up in good numbers and didn't stop singing even when two goals down. A lot of money raised by them for Matty Hughes too, very much appreciated. I hope we can meet them back in the football league some day!
Hopefully Stockport next week will be a cracking day out. The last time we played there in the FA Cup was a great day, would be good to take a few hundred there and see us get another win. Up to third now, it's good to be a blue this evening!

Simply sublime. An Akwasi Asante masterclass has well and truly got us back on track to gain our first win in 6. I’d definitely consider snapping him up permanently to avoid disappointment because we could have a real player on our hands. Our performance was fantastic all over the park which is why you should never doubt the Dynamic Duo. To battle the majority of the game with 10 men is testament to our fantastic work and clearly shows how dedicated we are. Hopefully we have now set up a benchmark to carry on our good season as today’s showing has reflected our squad’s true mettle. Darlington were very poor but that was probably due to us outclassing them. There were a few idiots in the away end, but I salute Andy Park who has raised a fantastic total of £400 towards Matty’s fund.
Our first half performance implied some very promising signs as we made an assured start to get a foothold into the game nice and early. Dan Mooney created some nice openings for us but Darlington’s defence remained resilient. On the 27th minute mark though we went 1-0 up as Asante met a perfect cross by gliding the ball into the back of the net with a backwards header. This set the tone for a mesmerising display as he was unplayable. Sadly our arrears were reduced to 10 men as Dan Mooney picked up a second yellow which was questionable to be honest. This could prove to be a massive miss for us at Stockport next week, although we coped really well without him for the rest of the match. Darlington had a couple of spells in the first period but we dealt with any trouble well to head into the break with a slender advantage.
The second half was outstanding from our perspective as our work rate was never-ending which was 100% worthy of this win. Just minutes into the half we doubled our lead as Akwasi bamboozled past the Darlo defence to duly slot home beyond the Darlington custodian. Our opponents got one back which was a decent finish from the edge of the area to put them back into the game. However, we kept our cool as Asante capped off a perfect hat-trick by cutting inside to rifle home to top off a sumptuous display. Onto our standout performers then where anyone couldn’t been worthy of MOTM really. For obvious reasons Asante duly deserves his accolade as he put in a terrific display, but Craig Mahon can count himself unlucky. His display was fantastic too as he was successful at breaking up play and caused Darlington nightmares with his wizardry and found lots of pockets of spaces. Grant Shenton was assured in goal and was unlucky not to preserve his clean sheet, whilst he was backed up by a solid defence. Matty Thomson had another great game on the right hand side as he dealt with any trouble really well again and is definitely turning into his new role with good effect. In midfield Gary Stopforth covered every blade of grass again and was excellent in cutting up play as his energetic spark made up for his error on Tuesday. Cain Noble’s start reaped the rewards as his display played a huge role in this victory as he shown 100% commitment throughout. Overall this was a brilliant team performance which will hopefully encourage some of our supporters to come back. 1,900 isn’t a great crowd really considering the reduced admission prices, although I thought there was well over 2,000 in attendance from my vantage point.
Overall it’s fantastic to get back to winning ways which creates some breathing space. This win has moved us up to 3rd now so hopefully we can use this as a building block to go on another run. Our next fixture will be a trip to Stockport County next Saturday which will be a tough ask, although we have every chance of upsetting the apple cart. Once again top marks to Andy Park for raising a magnificent amount which makes him an asset to his club. What a win! Phew.

Cracking game that and for all the doubters, that is what this team is capable of. Played for 60 odd minutes with 10 men and still ended up 3-1 winners. Great team spirit. Good performances from Cain Noble and Matty Thompson and a cameo from Lloyd Marsh Hughes. Frightening how good these lads could become. Stopford and the excellent Mahon covered every blade of grass. And the best debut from a Chester player, since Suart Rimmer v Southend in 1985 The lad Asante needs to be signed on permanently asap

Superb!!!
That is why you cough up £15, not £10 or whatever, and turn up to watch the match live rather than staying away! (Of course, some do have valid reasons)
Down to 10 and playing against 12 (incl. Ref) for an hour and it didn't really show. Surprised if any of the team can walk after that such was the staggering effort put in by everyone but especially Craig (the human dynamo) Mahon.
Details of the game itself have been covered by others on here but, in a nutshell, aren't Saturday nights so much more enjoyable after a performance like that!!!!

Looks like a retro crowd, vintage 1981 Hope not!, I heard we need at least 2,300 to make this Retro day a success Believe we needed 300 more than the 1,700 break even figure to make it worthwhile financially. Though I don't think these days should be judged solely on finances.

I'm thinking of bringing my little boy to this game tomorrow. He's only ever been to one football match before (Chesterfield v Colchester last December). He's only 4. Where would be the best place to sit/stand? I'm no prude but would prefer him to be away from industrial language as much as possible. Enjoyed that today! Well worth the £10 (Plus assorted refreshments for my lad!) . Chester looked a decent side. Far superior to Darlo even with 10 men. They had about 10 or 15 minutes after they scored (against the run of play) where they were on top but once the third went in it was game over. Chesters back 5 looked solid. The right back started off a bit shaky but grew into the game. The two in the middle of the park were industrious and combative. Liked the look of number 4. Number 10 put a decent shift in and was tidy. 11 looked classy and ran tirelessly. Obviously the big man up top will get all the headlines and rightly so. Lethal finishing and a good all round performance. He looked a class above everyone else on the pitch. I’d like to see him leading the line for my shower! Only downside was the lad lad who got sent off. I missed his first yellow (Chocolate related distraction) but his second yellow was absolutely idiotic when already on a booking. If I’m honest, the red card did him a favour as he was having a shocker and didn’t really look interested. Perhaps I’m being harsh but he was poor. Now I know I’m going to get stick for this but watching the game as a neutral, I thought the ref did ok. He got most things spot on in my opinion. Their captain was probably a bit lucky not to get a second yellow, but so was Chester’s number 8 for the tackle he was booked for. He could have seen red. Entertaining game. Great goals. Red card. Plenty of tackles. Bit of atmosphere second half. Lovely stuff. Thanks Chester.

One of my all time favourite Chester games that! Love seeing the lads dig in whilst a man down.
A point about the crowd... took my 3 year old daughter and the bloke told us to go in on the same turnstile click as she was free.
Massive credit to the Darlington fans - not just raising money for Matty - but over £400. Superb!

Well that was fucking brilliant.
Great performance & great result. Thought they all had a good game overall. Grand’s distribution was much better today & Thommo & Noble both played well though Noble made a few mistakes I’d be more than happy with both of them & LMH in contention for a first team spot every week.

Glad you enjoyed it Neutral. Hope you will come back. The lad who got sent off has probably been our best player this season. Only 19, still learning. Got a feeling he has a decent future if he can add a bit more consistency.

Its not not to say i don't swear, but only ehen i know the people i am with won't be offended. Think it was Aristotle who said those that can't speak adequately resort to expletives. Feel sorry for Mooney first taking one for the team after an unfortunate deflection sent Darlo away and the second just stretching for a ball that got away from him. He's only 19 and will learn.

Great game, great atmosphere, the only thing lacking was quality of the half time penalty takers..... Lupus Saves!!!
Amazing debut with a perfect hattrick for Asante he was unplayable!
Great performances from Mahon and Duds and a really mature and solid performance from Noble looked 10 years older than in is, class player in the making right there. Not a below 8 performance from anyone on the pitch. Felt for Mooney but it was a fair set of yellows.

One of the best games at Chester for ages. Winning with 10 men, a hat trick and all with a ref who was remarkably inconsistent. I thought he’d be a decent ref when about 10 mins in he played advantage And then pulled everyone back for a chester free kick on the edge of the box. But some of of the decisions were quite bizarre. How their pie eating number 6 left the pitch without a card was a mystery to me.
Every player played out of their skin. Would have liked to see Shenton keep the ball on the pitch from his goal kicks but that’s probably being a bit picky.
Must say in recent games we didn’t feel like a team 6th in the league but today we definitely felt like a team in 3rd.

Respect for the managers on an outstanding signing. Plenty of doubters on here which is understandable given his recent playing record, but that was the best centre-forward display I've seen for us since the postman - bullying the centre-halves, winning plenty of headers and intelligent off the ball. Let's hope Spennymoor don't come in for him!
2 young lads looked more than capable at this level which is a great sign (especially Noble - he was barking instructions like a veteran skipper rather than a 17 year old).
And I won money on the 50/50 for the first time ever.
Good times.

I don't think he's been a big loss despite the clamour of fans to get him signed up. It's a similar situation with Asante - he had a brilliant game and was it just a coincidence or did his presence result in the team turning it on today, after several games when we were total dross. I don't like judging players after just a couple of games but I do think Asante could be a shrewd signing and could be an investment so perhaps some of Stuart's money could be diverted to make the loan permanent. If he continues to impress in the next few games, he will be snapped up by one of our rivals. I know it would be a gamble which we can't afford to lose and looking at Tamworths forum, they will be glad to see the back of him, but he showed enough at Solihull and for us today, that he can be some player when motivated.

Really enjoyable game today, being down to ten actually galvanised the whole place and it made for a good atmosphere. Asante was superb but it was also a real team effort as you can’t play for that long when your down to 10 unless everyone puts a proper shift in.
The crowd was disappointing given the efforts to promote the themed day but I hope Jeff and those who helped to organise it aren’t too downheartened as there was an improved atmosphere around the place which I noticed straight away in the bar before the game. The club has to try stuff like this and I guess we can’t suddenly expect everyone to flock down at the first attempt but if we keep making the effort with matchday atmosphere then we will get there eventually.
And finally, a word for the Darlo fans who contributed the raising a terrific amount for Matty Hughes. Our lads clearly appreciated it as they went over to applaud them at the end which I thought was a classy touch. It’s refreshing to see that there’s some good clubs and fans out there.
