We have a pair of managers who know the players we have and know how to win this league. I'm sure that the obvious deficiencies are in the process of being resolved.

Still relatively early yet but I do Pose the same question of a few that so far on paper are we that much better than last year ? I am a fan of the managers so not criticising them . Teams around us seem to have significantly improved Boston,Darlington and York then the teams who were better than us alty , Brackley , soennymoor have strengthened aswel . Were we just a few new defenders short of being at champions level ? I still think we need some height in the middle of the park and youth ( stopforth, Roberts and burton all in 30’s) , another winger/forward even if Hughes signs and obviously a goalkeeper. That's a very fair observation. We've signed a couple with promise and we've expectations that Asante will deliver and that Stopforth, Hughes and JJ will carry on where they left off, but there's a certain amount of 'fingers crossed'.

I would love to see Asante have a great season, but am fearful that he is only at lowly Chester because of a long history of injury, and presents too much of a risk at higher level clubs where, if fit, he surely belongs. We took the risk last season with George Green in what was ultimately a waste of money. I haven’t, as yet, seen anything to suggest we will exceed last season. I’m not pleased to say that, but it’s just how I see it. Hopefully two or three inspirational signings yet to make. I would love to be proved wrong with what we have so far. Next April will tell us.

Don't forget that with Matty Hughes in the side we were 2nd in the league. I think the team is stronger, the kids a year older, Waters a decent half season under his belt and proper backup options all over the park accept wide. (and gk obvs)

Although I do think we lack a real creative central midfielder. Iwan Murray is of course an option, but I see him playing more advanced depending on what formation we're going with.

People seem quick to forget that when we had a fully fit starting 11, bar the Dunston defeat, we went all of September, October and half of November unbeaten and touched the top of the league. The main problem we had was depth and an inconsistent schedule. We must have had at least 10 saturdays without games with the stadium floods and cup rearranagements etc.which makes it very hard to keep momentum going. We had spells were 6 or 7 of our top earners were all out at the same time. All things considered we did alright.

Was always a thorn in our side when he was at Southport. Local and still young but will probably get offered a deal higher up though.

Whilst I do agree with others, in that this squad is a bit too much like last season’s, for my personal liking, it’s obvious that if Stopforth, Hughes and Asante stay relatively fit we have three players there who are as good as anything in any other team in the division. I also think that the additional training, if organised and attended properly will be a key factor in a successful season. I’m not panicking on a goal keeper yet. I know we debated it to death last season but the tea lady could have done a better job. So anything we get will be an improvement on that front.

I share the frustration with players electing to join clubs at lower or higher levels on the basis of ££. That said if Hughes and stop forth had been fit that would have got us an extra 15 points or so which would have comfortably cemented a play off birth. I’m sure we will do ok next season. In an ideal world yes xtra in midfield and a good keeper I’m sure the later will be resolved.

When a simple question sparks 8 aggressive/vitriolic posts you really have to wonder. Can we just have a thread called “venting my spleen” and let people blow off steam/wage their vendettas etc there, rather than on pretty much every thread on DC?

Honest question rcb, like bluemission says who would you like the management to bring in, considering the constraints the management have to work under budget wise would you rather we break the bank and ruin the club again ?
Feckin UNDERWHELMED !!!! Your bonkers man.
