Devon Blue or West Yorks Blue wasn't this bad. Every thread descends into this nonsense when it gets hijacked by the cultists SB, Ian and Chanter and then it has to be locked. It's a farce. If you ask Corbyn's supporters why they supported him, they will almost always talk about his policy ideas or his record. If you ask Johnson's supporters why they support him, they will almost almost always talk about his personality traits. Which is the cult, really?

Apologies my mistake. Still looking forward to hearing how socialism is being embraced after it was rejected by the Labour Party and the wider electorate? You wouldn't be trying to exploit a global tragedy to further the argument you keep losing surely fella? I see your Stockholm syndrome is coming along nicely.

Respect each others opinions and debate sensibly. It's not too hard surely?

Is it not possible to keep this topic on track it started out so well intentioned. How about starting a separate thread for people who want to argue about politics. Oh wait that's what this has become.

Happy to discuss the lockdown and how people are coping with it, but there is no escaping the politics of it, given how badly this Government has mismanaged everything. Both my wife and I are key workers and some of the staff I manage have been seconded to help the most vulnerable in society, who have ordered to self-isolate indefinitely. Some of the stories I’m hearing are absolutely terrifying, compounded by 10 years of Tory austerity that has left many of them almost destitute. The U.K. is well on course to have a death rate many times worse than anywhere else in Europe. Why is that? The virus doesn’t differentiate between nationalities, so there can be only two reasons: either Tory incompetence or indifference.

You may be happy to discuss the lock down in your first sentence but never mention it again. Why not start a thread that you can bring up your concerns about the government on instead of hijacking this thread.

May be in your mind. Read the idea of the thread no mention of anything other than how people are coping and filling in their time. It doesn't matter what you call yourself you have only one motive and that is to convert every post to force your own theories and beliefs on to everybody. Try and stick to the original concept of the topic.

Devon Blue or West Yorks Blue wasn't this bad. Every thread descends into this nonsense when it gets hijacked by the cultists SB, Ian and Chanter and then it has to be locked. It's a farce. I've made 3 posts on this thread, one of which is explicitly criticising Labour, another which is criticising our reliance on the meat and dairy industry, the third criticising the legislation-flouting idiots in London. So how about instead of labelling everyone a cultist and calling for them to be banned because they don't agree with you, you take that tin foil off your intolerant head and climb down from your self-righteous ivory tower.

I don't necessarily think party politics is helpful at the moment, but I do see the current situation as very political, and societal and environmental as well. People say it's a good job this has happened now when we have internet and video calling, but I don't think it would have happened 20-30 years ago, at least not on the same scale. Everything about it is a consequence of the way we live in 2020.
It started with people eating any animal they could think to put in their mouth, with no regard for animal welfare or sanitation. Thoughtless consumption, basically. Easy to dismiss that as China, but how much thought do people give here to where their food comes from? Are people bothered, for example, that our government wants to break free from EU food hygiene standards and allow chicken carcasses to sit in warehouses gathering bacteria before being washed with chlorine? It sounds one mistake away from a disaster to me.
We're constantly warned that we need to travel less, and especially fly less. Does anyone listen? No, they build more airports and commission more flights. Hence a virus that could have been confined to one area is spread all over the world in a matter of weeks or even days. OK, the argument is down to carbon emissions rather than spread of virus, but it still comes down to not respecting nature and the environment.
As soon as we realised we might have a problem here, people with time and money went out and bought everything in the shops, leaving the vulnerable without the basic items they need. If in doubt, buy more stuff. Again, consumerism at its worst.
And then once we realise we have a problem, we look at the leaders we've tasked with dealing with this, and that's where you have to consider the rise of right-wing populism around the world in major Western countries, not just here but in the US, Brazil, Australia and so on. We've spent the last few years rowing about things like whether passports should be red or blue, and building walls to keep the Mexicans out. We could have spent that time and money building ventilators, sourcing PPE, investing properly in the NHS, collaborating worldwide on tackling climate change. But people don't care about these things, because they're more likely to look at a straight banana during their average day than a ventilator or a disappearing coastline.
We now have terrible, terrible people playing key roles in what is the biggest global crisis since the Second World War, running countries like Mike Ashley runs Sports Direct. You could not handpick a more unsuitable person to be dealing with a situation like this than Donald Trump. You, me, my four-year-old daughter, ANYONE would be better than him, and that's no exaggeration. All he has to do is listen to experts, give clear advice, keep people calm and realise that it's not about himself at the moment, but he just can't do any of those things. And the media don't question him or Boris Johnson in the way they should, because they're owned by the rich and powerful themselves and don't want to bite the hand that feeds.
From start to finish, it's human foolishness and selfishness, and a refusal to do anything that's of the slightest inconvenience to our lives. And I'm a human too, so I'm to blame as much as anyone.
I've always thought that humans will eventually destroy themselves, and I doubt this will be the last time in most of our lifetimes that life as we know it grinds to a half. COVID-19 should be a big wake-up call and make us realise that the way we think, vote and live simply cannot continue

The self defeatism, the sheer misery in that post is hilarious but scary at the same time. A proper train wreck. What do you disagree about? The animal hygiene point. What is so special about EU hygiene standards? Do they set the standard in this? No reason why we can't do better. The travel point, you're actually on the right lines but that's down to globalisation, not 'respecting nature and the environment' lol. Moaning about Trump, people are bored of that. Just don't listen to him. You do have a point with consumerism though. That is a problem driven by corporate greed, it's encouraged and will continue to be. That's an issue beyond party politics and probably won't be fixed unless there is a full reset. And that reset does not mean voting another party into power to magically change life as we know it.

I’ve had my suspicions about Boris Johnson’s recent PR stunt (conveniently using an NHS hospital, going to ICU just for “precaution” and being “OK”...) but now he’s supposedly at Chequers with his pregnant girlfriend a day after being discharged? His governments own rules on isolation is seven days from the outset of symptoms whilst the WHO suggest it should be 14 days from the last symptoms.
Serial liar.

Whilst almost every other country are putting their people first, the British cabinet are split on ending the lockdown as it could “damage the economy.”
So far I’ve been using the term ‘corporate manslaughter’ but perhaps ‘murder for profit’ may be more apt.
