I can't argue with that. I think it's safe to say 2020 is a write off.

Good to see NHS staff keeping their spirits high by using the TikTok video app and sharing their dances via Twitter. Just the little things that brighten your day a bit. One from the Children’s ward at the Countess that my wife filmed is getting a lot of re-tweets, including by certain fellow Deva Chatters surprisingly.

I feel sorry for people living in flats or just bedsits it must be soul destroying. I don’t know, being stuck in a flat in Dundee has its charms.

A few posts deleted from here. Come on guys, let's have at least one thread that's supportive and doesn't include putdowns.

I am reading The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists at the moment. Written in 1914 but as relevant today as it ever has been I think.
I also had Five On Brexit Island by Enid Blyton For Grown-Ups for my birthday. It’s a humourous update on the famous books from years ago - lots of wry smiles raised as the five are stranded on a desert island after the 2016 Referendum result. They get by despite their differences in opinions about the result. As I said quite humourous.

John Steinbeck’s ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ is a mighty tome. Other suggestions include Jim Dodge - Don’t Fade Away, Terry Southern - The Magic Christian, any of the Rabbit books from John Updike. Big lover of American hard-boiled crime fiction, so anything by Jim Thompson, James Crumley, Raymond Chandler, Walter Mosley, George Pelecanos, Dennis Lehane. Also recommend ‘Underworld’ by Don DeLillo and everything by Phillip Roth and Richard Price.

Re-watched season one of Brassic in one sitting last night.
Six hours of Michelle Keegan took its toll later on - it looks like a rabid dog’s been at it.

Anyone else taken up cycling since lockdown. I'm well into it now (not spandex well into it yet!!) and must say well impressed with the cycling network including the millennium cycle path-Mickle Trafford to Shotton and the Shropshire union canal path to Ellesmere Port. At the moment though they can get quite busy so I generally go early morning. Have been told that you can cycle almost road free to Anglesey which is appealing although still many months away from a fitness perspective. Any other local routes worth considering?

I've done Wirral Way a few times, a 12-miles walking and cycling path running from Hooton to West Kirby. Maybe a bit narrow for distancing though.

Couple of good things about lock down. Shop once a week and if you forget something do without. Saving £30 a week in petrol. No take aways No Sunday lunches at the local. Couple of bad things. Lack of haircut not a good look. Not seeing grandkids and family. Facetime doesn't beat a hug.

Celebrated my birthday on Friday with different family members coming round at different points in the day to maintain social distancing. Was all very strange but that’s life at the moment.

During lock down I have got fed up with posts that contain nothing but negativety so I started to look for non political posts. I found on twitter professor karol sikora, now this guy knows what he is talking about. Just plain honest facts without the sniping and scare mongering. Very informative and definitely worth a a follow.

Its still very wrong for a certain poster to state there are "very few negatives" at the moment though. Didn't really need to say that, and I fear it was done deliberately to invite an argument.

I didn't see that post as inviting an argument as he says it's about how he feels about lock down,

For him personally. You'd start an argument in an empty lift wouldn't you! Stay on the original lockdown topic will you and leave this one to posters who want to discus the lockdown without bringing politics into it all the time. How come all your family members came around was it to get exercise? Don't think your birthday was on the list of acceptable reasons for going out?

I have not brought politics into this topic at all, I've provided my own personal experiences of lockdown (TV, birthday etc). The only deviation from my personal experiences was pointing out that Upsandowns was deliberately gunning for an argument with the last line of his earlier post.
I'll await your apology.
Thanks x

It was a bit of a flippant last line maybe, but I don't think anyone was looking to ruffle feathers. Let's move on.

Possible post-lockdown working conditions. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52525127Can I just say "hot-desking" is a f**king nonsense anyway and should be consigned to history. Some awful creation from people who've never had bog-standard office jobs and just want to use buzzwords like 'adaptability'. Give people their own desk FFS and treat them like employees.

I'll await my answer to the other point I made which you ignored. I will apologise re politics, as I was reading a post on the other thread and mistakenly thought it was on this one.

No need to fear!! just to set the record straight my post was a direct follow on from upsanddowns, he used the words "couple of bad points" I used "very few negatives" meaning for me personally. You and your buddy are the only ones deliberately inviting arguments indeed you waited about 13 hours to respond, instead telling us about your birthday party (how old are you BTW?) I have nothing to add

I have nothing to add I think everyone knew what you meant. Not much action on the other lockdown or brexit thread so they decided to pick it up on here. Is celebrating frank paintbrushes birthday classed as essential travel these day?
