I think the consensus when raising the 116k was that this was going to supplement signings and allow us to have a competitive budget. We were told that we were on a sound financial footing and that SM leaving the club was not going to have a significant impact. If we don't sign any players and this is just used to bridge a shortfall then it's very disappointing. It wasn't a 'save the club' fundraiser, it appeared to be something to match other clubs who were generating funds to make signings. We are at least 3-4 players short of where we need to be and we need some honest feedback as to the hit the club has taken following SM's disappearance and what the 116k is actually contributing to. We've got about 150 trialists. Signings will be made, they only went back to training this week đ

Similar situation last year, having fallen short of the minimum target of playoffs, we were told the managers were going to retain 5 or 6. They then resigned most of them, meaning no budget left for fresh blood. This year, we failed at the first round of the playoffs and the managers said we desperately needed fresh blood in the spine of the team. Yet again they have resigned almost everyone and seemingly donât have the budget for fresh blood. Why bother with trialists if we havenât got the ability to sign anyone? This is disappointing. Yes, we may only have half the budget, but players only expect half pay, so in realty no difference. The problem seems to be the resigning of too many too early. I think some of your posts recently rcb have been really constructive and added to some decent debate. A goalkeeper (Griffiths) right back (Thomson) centre back (Jones) left back (Waters) central midfielders (Stopforth, Burton, Ngwatala and Murray) and a striker (Asante) have all left during the summer. It would be good to hear who YOU think shouldnât have been retained?

The problem seems to be the resigning of too many too early. Similar situation last year, having fallen short of the minimum target of playoffs, we were told the managers were going to retain 5 or 6. They then resigned most of them, meaning no budget left for fresh blood.Nine players signed by the managers in their first season were retained for the second. Others retained were academy graduates and Roberts and Mahon. Kevin Roberts, Danny Elliott, Jamie Morgan, Joel Taylor, Russ Griffiths and James Jones were brought in during the 2019 summer. John Johnston and George Glendon during the season. Not bad considering no budget left for fresh blood. we failed at the first round of the playoffs Pushed the eventual winners, arguably strongest team in play offs with little preparation. We were very unlucky. the managers said we desperately needed fresh blood in the spine of the team. We've lost two central midfielders, a central defender and our top scorer. In an ideal world we would get fresh blood of equal or better quaity in to replace them. Far from an ideal world at the moment. Yet again they have resigned almost everyoneWhy not? these lads got us to the play offs. You also won't find many better in their positions, especially having taken a pay cut to stay. Nice to have consistency, plus a few were already contracted anyway. and seemingly donât have the budget for fresh blood.
We don't. We don't even know what budget we have. We're so fortunate that players have taken a pay cut, the managers (who you clearly have an agenda against) are a big factor in players wanting to stay. We're lucky to have them, we were in 2018 and we are now. Chester FC are part (if any) of the draw for players to come here, Johnson and Morley are a big part in why players want to come and stay here. Why bother with trialists if we havenât got the ability to sign anyone?
It's been 2 games, most trialists have played 45 minutes each game. Budget is tight/unknown, the managers have to make sure they get the right players. Reserve judgement on the ability to sign anyone and who we sign when season starts. We're not in a position to go out and sign a striker from Altrincham, hence trialists, who will demand a lot less money and more than likely work within whatever budget we have. This is disappointing.Quelle surprise! we may only have half the budget, but players only expect half pay, so in realty no difference.
It's not half the budget. It might be eventually. Could end up being more, we don't know. It'll certainly be a lot less than last season. Those players don't take a pay cut there'd be a lot more trialists and a lot more pay as you play deals. This is a fantastically structured post and written in a way I wouldnât be able to and one I wholeheartedly agree with

Being strong off the field is going to be more important than what goes on it this upcoming season.
With local lock downs, second waves etc it will be difficult to see the season complete on time and capacity restrictions lifted. This will lead to a season of struggle for the likes of Wrexham and Telford whoâs short-sightedness these past few weeks I find quite staggering. This is going be a season in which the clubs who are strong off the field will do well.

Gloucester have just signed Kevin Dawson. Quite literally an insanely good signing. Will have surely cashed off a number of other clubs at higher levels to get that over the line

Have you considered that clubs may choose to release information by means of a âleakâ to the local press. Maybe that is because the club sell the story as it sells papers ? what would the Chron pay ÂŁ2.50p ? or some twat on the inside sells or leaks the story ? Look I don't care what other clubs do and call me old fashioned but any player information should be released by the club first to avoid any misunderstanding or rumour. Like I say call me old fashioned but it is just the way I see things and more so now in a fans owned club.

Matty Brown to York. Iâve got to be honest, I think itâs going to be a real struggle for us this season seeing what transfer business other clubs are doing. If we start the season of course.

Who would you sign Bri?* *Please bear in mind the management or the board have no idea of what the budget will be, when we will be playing games and to what maximum gates, so will be paying wages (and rent, rates, utilities etc) out of an ever decreasing bank balance. York, Gloucester, Telford et al playing with a loaded gun, and unless they have brewstered owners could well end up in the sticky stuff. Bern & Jonno and the board been VERY sensible.

Statement issued today by AFC Fylde -
'The Ryan Croasdale Story â The Unacceptable Face of Football.'
'Tuesday of this week, the FA terminated the playing contract of Ryan Croasdale with AFC Fylde. He has left the club following an appeal panel ruling in his favour, therefore making him a free agent.
How this has all transpired is a story that all fans, not only those at Fylde, deserve to hear.
It all started back in April when the full impact of Covid became apparent and the season was cancelled. An emergency meeting was held between the Chief Executive, Jonty Castle, the Manager Jim Bentley and owner David Haythornthwaite. Discussions took place on what we should do with regard to the situation and in particular players wages. It was clear that if players werenât paid that despite the seriousness of the situation, they could, when the time was right for them use this to force a move away.
As this would involve our better players, and those we wanted to protect, the owner believed we should do all we could to âprotectâ those players by paying them in full even if that was to the detriment of others. The Chief Exec and Manager argued strongly against this and said that after consultation with the players âthey were all in it togetherâ and would accept a âpackageâ that equated to 80% of their wages. This would be made up through a combination of the Government furlough money plus a further top up from the club.
In Croasdaleâs case he was on ÂŁ950 a week so 80% was ÂŁ760 a week. The government scheme allowed us to claim back a maximum of ÂŁ576.92 so the balance of ÂŁ183.08 would be topped up by the club. This formula was to be used for all the players. After much discussion, this approach was agreed, the players were informed and the appropriate paperwork drawn up and sent to each player. Every single player bar Croasdale eventually signed up to the ânew contractâ.
Croasdale refused to on the grounds that it would cause his family âsevere hardshipâ.
As has been well documented previously, the players were not required to train or come to the ground. They were totally free to do what they liked, including finding part time or full time work to top up their earnings, if they needed, or wanted to. In fact, the Chairman offed all the players and other employees the chance to work in his business on a packing line at ÂŁ10.00 per hour and up to 40 hours a week on a day or night shift.
Croasdale turned this offer down, at which time it was then clear for all and sunder to see his intentions and that he would use this at some time, aided and abetted by his agent, to engineer a move away from the club.
Having set out our stall and got the agreement from 16 out of 17 contracted players we obviously couldnât make exceptions and although he refused to sign the paperwork, we put him on the government job retention scheme where he still received ÂŁ576.92 a week for the remainder of the summer.
At the start of August we informed the players that pre-season would begin on 24th and they would return to full pay. At this point, Croasdale was forced to show his hand and on 7th August he put in a grievance to the league regarding ânot being paid in fullâ. As soon as pre-season began, he came up with a number of reasons not to participate in full training. The reason being of course, was that he was negotiating with other clubs and didnât want to risk getting injured. The procedure, is that the initial grievance goes to the National League and after that, if either party is unhappy with the result they can appeal to the FA.
We were extremely confident in our case, everything was well documented and the paper trail clear, but despite all this, our own League failed to support us and held in favour of the player. We were gobsmacked. How, in these uncertain times, when a players intentions were clear could they do this to one of its own members. The least they should have, and could have done was to support us and let the player appeal to the FA. They chose not to.
Incidentally, the reasons given in his grievance and we quote verbatim were
âThe loss of earnings which have accumulated throughout this period have caused severe financial hardship upon my family, this is due to me being the only financial provider in my household. In result I have had to borrow money from family in order to cover my mortgage and monthly outgoings.â
We therefore went to appeal the decision ourselves and were told that due to certain procedural irregularities we couldnât. Again, our own League fought tooth and nail to try and deny us this appeal. Eventually, we succeeded but their earlier decision was ratified and as of Thursday this week Ryanâs contract was terminated by the FA and he is now free to ply his trade anywhere he chooses. The lucky club who picks him up will do so for free. Fylde fans will remember, we paid Kidderminster Harriers ÂŁ50,000 for him in 2018.
As the title of the article states, this is âThe Unacceptable Face of Footballâ
We lead you to draw your own conclusions.'
