Was debating this the other day, 6 months of the season gone with 3 months left.
Who would you go with?
The first time in a while we have a number of genuine contenders.
Ryan Astles James Alabi Tom Shaw Sam Hughes Ryan Lloyd Johnny Hunt Craig Mahon
The likes of Vassell and the two keepers have done well but been in and out of the side.

Ryan Lloyd without a doubt, he could play shit for the rest of the season and still be head and shoulders above the rest

I think its between Lloyd, Alabi and Shaw. Alabi will win it though because goals get headlines and plaudits (and money unfortunately!).

i think my vote has to go to one of the defenders given our season has been built upon the success of the back 4. Lloyd and Shaw have been immense but im going for Ryan Astles. Future captain and possible hall of famer IMO, not sure he will go to football league.

Big Ryan Astles. Outstanding this season, led our young defence, depsite being young for a centre-half himself. Plus THAT Tranmere goal!

James Alibi - despite getting a certain amount of 'stick' earlier in the season he has got his head down, focused and produced.

Astles for me, although this is the first season for a while we've had a few genuine contenders, wouldn't begrudge any of 5 or 6 winning it

I would probably pick Johnny Hunt but as his form tailed off about this time last season, and, God forbid it happens to him or anyone else, I think it's a little to early to pick anyone

Astles for me as well.
Absolute beast at the back.

Exactly the same as buckleyblue for me.
Most improved player from last season (of the ones who were here) has to be Shaw I would say.

Shaw and Hunt for most improved player.
Biggest surprise for me has been the form of Alex Lynch since we brought big Dave Felgate back as keeper coach. People quite rightly rave about Astles, Hughes, Alabi, and Lloyd. But this young lad has come a long, long way in such a short space of time since he arrived from Bala.
Seems years since we had Worsedrop in between the sticks

Shaw and Hunt are definitely the most improved players from last season. Astles has been immense though.

Ooo new forum me like. I didnt post on the old forum, but regularly read what fans views were - i do like the ease of just being able to post on this from my phone without registering.
Now back to topic - for me has to be Shaw, mainly as i thought he was pants last season and has completely proved me wrong.
Others very close are Astles and Alabi - Alabi by the way how good has he been the last month, his now consistant ability to out muscle most players and hold the ball or turn and shoot and hopefully score as at the weekend has shown he is up there with the best of the non leagues big guys.

Hunt has improved significantly this season. Alabi has produced despite going missing in some games, lot of potential still to come from him.

Like others I can't decide between Alabi, Astles and Shaw.
Shaw has to be a contender for captain next season?! Even if George manages to earn himself another contract I would still give the captaincy to Shaw.

Tom Shaw for me, he has played like a captain all season - mostly because he has had to with George missing for large chunks.
The usual suspects mentioned above - it's a nice change to have a pool of top performers to choose from. Special mention for Mr Dependable Jonny Hunt who was my MOTM in the derby.

Craig Mahon was playing great before his injury, especially when you compared it to last season. After being out for a couple of months though I'd have to say Alabi. First season in a while that its a difficult choice!

Tom Shaw for me.
Big disappointment last season but was immense in the last 4 games, and he's carried it over this season. No coincidence it's been since Macca took charge.

I'd go for Ryan Astles, especially if he was standing behind me when someone asked.
A mountain of a man who fills a doorway!

Astles for consistency. Although Alabi pushes him close. Shaw most improved.
