A somewhat optimistic appeal from Mr Cleeve - King’s Lynn Town FC have today launched the ‘Linnets Donation pledge’ scheme which they hope will give assistance to their current financial plight following the ongoing pandemic situation which has seen only one fixture with a crowd allowed inside the stadium this season, and the announcement of the National League’s resolution last week that the league should continue despite financial help being offered to clubs only in the form of loans and not grants as had been the case between October and December. Speaking at the launch chairman Stephen Cleeve said "Through no fault of it’s own the club has found itself in a position that it can no longer afford to participate in the National League without the assistance of monies in a grant form. If the club took a loan in the current circumstances it would saddle it with a debt which would be around it’s neck for many years to come. Add to that the Prime Ministers announcement that supporters will not be allowed into sports grounds until at least May 17th , meaning we could have possibly one game this season with a crowd on May 29th , which even then would be limited. The Linnets donation pledge is a way for not only supporters of King’s Lynn Town , but supporters of football around the county, the country and even the world to rally and support the club in these very difficult times.Priced at £300 each, the pledges are available to purchase by clicking the link HERE which is on our website www.kltown.co.uk. As a way of saying thank you for your donation I will allow entry to the next ten games played at The Walks. This may be the Aldershot fixture at the end of the present season or the pre season games and early league fixtures of season 2021/22. I t would be fair to say that unless a substantial amount of these pledges are taken up there is no guarantee that we will be able to continue this current season. I have also estimated that it will cost around £100,000 if we do not continue the season. I thank you in advance of your donations to our tremendous club." One of the first people to donate is Kevin Dack, Assoicate Director of Norwich City Football Club, who said ‘As a Norwich City supporter and general football fan of 50 years it is very frustrating to view the challenges faced by King’s Lynn Town and other similar Community Football Clubs in the face of the pandemic. In general, I would have hoped that football in a wider sense and/or the Government would have resolved the issues. Community Football Clubs are a vital resource which we must seek to protect. In that spirit I am happy to make a £300 contribution to King’s Lynn’s fundraising initiative and wish them well in their bid to retain their recently achieved status within the National League’ "As a way of saying thank you for your donation I will allow entry to the next ten games played at The Walks." Can't quite put my finger on what bothers me so much about the phrasing of this sentence. I'll make no secret that I'm not a fan of Cleeve so I'm probably being a bit churlish but I'm glad he's not in charge of "allowing me" to support my club. Sense a scam here that the VAT people will take exception to. It's not a 'donation'(vat free) if you have the expectation of getting something for it e.g entry to a football match (which is vatable)

It’s a waste of time speculating about Glendon or Weeks or anyone else joining another club on loan. Maybe they have other jobs they need to devote their time to, maybe they’re not bothered about going to play anywhere else to play football, maybe they’d like to make the decision for themselves rather than have members of a message board decide what’s best for them.

JJ saying it wouldn't be something he'd consider as he is a Chester player and wouldn't feel like his efforts would be as much as what they would be for us, partly due to knowing it's a team he isn't staying with and secondly because he wouldn't want to risk injury for the main club that pays his wage. With that in mind, I can't see welsh clubs wanted to take on lads from the null and void english leagues as they'll be wanting players fully invested in what they are trying to achieve, not players just playing to keep themselves ticking over.

On the second point, though, “risking injury” - that’s a weird one to me. Otherwise, is there any point in any player ever going out on loan?

Because the alternative is not playing at all, meaning almost zero chance of getting a serious injury. Not sure why that's so hard to understand. Also, most of our players are seasoned pros, the desire to go on loan won't be there like it would be for a keen 18 year old wanting to play games

Typically loan signings are young players going out for experience, or out of favour players looking for match fitness and form. I'd be gutted if someone like Glendon went on loan to Connah's Quay and did his ACL in, given that he doesn't need experience and he'd be getting fit during pre season for us anyone so him being super fit from playing football at the moment makes little difference to us. Might be something to consider for the likes of Marsh Hughes and Burke who need game time and experience to develop.

Ollie Bayliss ollie_Bayliss Conversations are continuing between some Step 2 clubs & the National League. A group of teams are keen to find a way to complete a competition resulting in promotion. The National League is prepared to listen to proposals which would also require agreement from the FA. So much for democracy and the integrity of the competition.

So clubs at the wrong end of the NL that were told there would be no relegation are suddenly going to be fine with this? Yeah, right.

Personally I think it does us no harm to keep our players playing competitive matches and prolonging their match fitness for the rest of this season in the National League Premier - we would be starting pre-season and subsequently next season ahead of most other teams in this division, it’s a win for all parties if you ask me. On your point about season-ending injuries, what’s the likelihood really? The last ones we had were Stopforth and Hughes I’d say. One a season? The odds percentage is incredibly low. And in any case, what does it matter if that injury occurs whilst playing for us or playing out on loan? It’s the exact same outcome at the end of it.

As Ollie Bayliss says 'so much for democracy'. If this vote is allowed to be overturned by the rich owners to motivate their own ends then EVERY vote from now on will be challenged if they don't like the outcome. This will be used as a precedent. Hopefully the FA will squash it before it becomes reality. Very reminiscent of the Eurofiles and American Republicans refusing to accept the will of the majority. They have both failed. Let's hope this lot fail too

If they say no to the mini leagues idea you can bet your last dollar there will be a legal case landing on their desk from Dorking, Fylde, Gloucester

Not a fair way at all.

Suspect the clubs who want to play on may push for two promotion spots in total to be allowed - one to fill the vacant position left by Macc's demise and another to replace Dover. We could be left with just 21 clubs in the NLN next season if that happened, but most of those campaigning to play on like Fylde probably won't care less as money seems to be no issue to them.
