Really pleased to hear that Luke Clark is staying put. Luke really impressed me when he was on trial last pre-season, and although he sadly only made a couple of league appearances last campaign, from the glimpses I saw of Luke he settled in really well in his short cameos. I definitely think there’s more to come as the lad has shown plenty of promise, so in that respect I’m desperate for him to feature more often next season as he does deserve a few starts. We should make the most of Luke in my opinion, because due to him being able to operate in numerous positions he is a very handy utility man (it’s rare you get those types of players nowadays), so hopefully we will be able to utilise him on a more regular basis from now on because he’s very versatile. All the best Luke!

Made up with the addition of Jude Oyibo. I was impressed with Jude in our slender win against Curzon Ashton last season as he was quite tricky and skilful on the ball, so hopefully he will entertain us by bombing up and down the Deva flanks. The departure of Brad Jackson was always going to be a huge miss for us, but if we can develop Oyibo and give him time to settle then let’s hope he will be the perfect replacement for Jacko. I’d still like us to retain Brad Bauress though as he’s shown some promising signs, and if we do then we will have three very good wingers in him, Jude, and John Johnston, so in that respect we should be sorted in that department. Jude sounds like a very promising and highly rated player having featured in and around this level for the likes of Altrincham, Alfreton Town, and Curzon Ashton so I can’t wait to see what he can bring to the party. Welcome to Chester FC Jude 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️!

Shane has just posted that George Waring has signed a new deal. i always get the impression that there is a player, in there, but he needs to push on and play to his height and strength and impose himself on the centrebacks. He would benefit from playing alongside an 'old head', like Matty McNeil, who was by far the best targetman, we have had since we reformed. He reminds me a lot of John Murphy in his first spell with us.

If he can be half as good as Murphy was for us that’d be great, I was a big fan of Murphy.

Brad bauress has left the club that is a blow I felt he was our best corner taker Not losing much sleep over this. I always felt he was alright, nothing more nothing less. I felt having him on the left wing for away games gave us a bit of extra stability rather than having 2 genuine wingers like JJ and Jacko, but other than that I don't think he offered a great deal. Obviously had a great attitude playing for free, and hope he picks up another club.

A shame to see Brad Bauress go. Brad was a handy little player who always impressed me whenever he featured, and he always put in the effort. He was superb when he was on trial for us during last pre-season, particularly against Marine where he scored a long range thunderbolt, while he also netted a tidy goal in our first home league clash against Leamington as well. I would’ve loved to see more of Brad and for him to stay, but I presume he’s departed due to him playing for free which is completely understandable, so in that respect he deserves our utmost gratitude for that incredible gesture. Hopefully Brad will sign for a new club soon as he’s a great player for this level and very talented too, as shown in the early stages of his career at Witton Albion. Good luck for the rest of your career Brad!

Really made up for the lad. From what I’ve watched of Drew he’s really impressed me with his technicality, while he also played a significant role in our youth team’s National League Alliance Cup success last season. He always puts 100% effort in, so I’m really looking forward to seeing him develop and progress in our first team squad now. All the best Drew 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️!

Nice to here we have a defender who can play anywhere in the back four and is 6ft+. Moneybags teams always get the 6ft+ players in all positions that we have difficulty in playing against. But those teams after paying lots of money for those players still come up against similar teams. This is where berno and johno are doing great business in midfield, skilfull players. Can't wait for new season to start. Get your season ticket.

This is exactly what the club should be doing, signing promising players from the academy and promising , young players from the leagues below or the ones out of contract, in our league.

Great signing. We’ve needed a versatile defender for a while so it’s pleasing we have landed one in Dan, as we do need extra strength in depth across our back four, while his height will also give us a good boost. It’d be a great bonus if he can operate at left back on a regular basis though, because we haven’t yet replaced Josh Askew/Joel Taylor who were two excellent players in that position, so if Cowan can play in that role then that’ll be brilliant for us. Also good to hear many Stockport County fans dishing out rave reviews of Dan from his time there, so let’s hope he will utilise his experience of already winning this division to push us all the way. Dan’s also played in this league for Chorley, Guiseley, and most recently Curzon Ashton while he has National League experience at Macclesfield Town at a good age of 25, so on paper it looks like an excellent piece of business for me. Welcome to Chester FC Dan 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️!

James Hardy signs.
Creative no.10 or wide player.
Won NLN with Fylde. Was with Telford early last season, but moved to Alty when our season was terminated.

Anyone got the route for the bus parade yet? 🏆 Starts North side of Fylde, down the dual carriage way, right at the lights and ends in the empty stadium. Seriously though, we are putting together a really good bunch of players. Now if we could just get Mbappe in.....

James is an excellent player who will do well for you at number 10. He didn't get much of a chance for us, given competition for that spot. Not a goalscorer but an exciting talent you will enjoy watching.

Sunds like another top signing, great stuff! Wonder if he will be used as a winger, though, as unsure where a "number 10" would fit into our lineup, unless he is a "second striker" just off a goalscorer

What a quality piece of business! A really exciting signing and player is James because he’s a very creative and dynamic lad who can make that magic happen, so let’s hope we have another John Rooney at our disposal. He’s already won this league with AFC Fylde in 2017 so let’s hope that he will utilise that experience to help us emulate that feat next season, while Hardy’s talent earned a move to Walsall where he made a number of appearances for the Sky Bet League Two outfit. James has National League experience at FC Halifax Town and also Altrincham, and judging by some of the comments amongst the Alty faithful it looks like we’ve landed a gem as a fair few are disappointed to see him depart Moss Lane, while others were very impressed by his creative talent. Our new recruit also has experience in our league having featured for AFC Telford United when we completed the Christmas/New Year double over them last campaign, while he has a handful of England C appearances under his belt too.
Our squad is certainly starting to shape up nicely now with our midfield particularly bursting with quality. We have some fantastic options with George Glendon and Declan Weeks in the middle, John Johnston out wide, an energetic back-up in Jude Oyibo, and also James Hardy who I presume will go out wide because as somebody else has already pointed out, I can’t really see a ‘number 10’ fitting into our system. There have also been strong rumours of Jay Harris making a return to the Deva who would be another great option, while it’ll be interesting to see whether Paddy Lacey signs on because I have a lot of time for that lad and believe he has plenty of unfinished business here. In my opinion our midfield is looking pretty much spot on, we look fine in the goalkeeping department, but we seriously need to bring in preferably 2 quality strikers to bang the goals in while another centre half and possibly a left back too would be very handy as well. Therefore, once we get those little bits and bobs sorted to complete our jigsaw we should be in an excellent position in my opinion to launch a serious title assault. Anyway, I’m thoroughly looking forward to watching James Hardy in a blue and white shirt and hope he has a memorable spell here. Welcome to Chester FC James 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️!

Hardy is in the Glendon/Weeks/Johnston/Dudley mould in that he is extremely comfortable on the ball. If it clicks then the link up play between the lot of them could be very exciting.
As a guide, he is more like Johnston than Jackson, he has very quick feet with a lot of flair but not necessarily quite the raw pace to burst down and hug the touchline like Jackson. Don’t get me wrong, he is very quick though. But him and Johnston will often swap sides I’d have thought and you’ll see him cutting in and popping up in good areas to collect the ball.

Looking at the players we're signing, I'm not sure we'll be playing wingers in the old sense. More of a 433 style with a more narrow attack. More like current Liverpool than 90s United. We were getting more like that last season anyway. Gives the players freedom, and more of a goal threat. As you say, it should be a good watch and difficult to play against. Might need a Lacey type to sit in behind it all. Or a Jay Harris, if Rio is correct.

The squad is taking shape nicely, ideally would sign a left back and a striker next.
Be a very interesting season not just for us but for the league overall. As I think clubs will be cautious and not overspending at first/not got much money to play with. It could be a case of if the crowds return gradually over the season then clubs might be strengthening their squads as they go on.
