This Murphy thing is driving me crackers, he wasn't the man to take us forward end of story. He was a Chester fan? so much so he shut the door and walked away after being challenged, he was after the club for some reason or other but the fans were kicking off in their droves when he approached the club when the pandemic started, calling him for everything. One thing that bothered me was asking for a 10 business plan in the middle of the pandemic, what business could produce a 10 year plan in such uncertain times??? We dodged a bullet with Murphy, i dont think he had clubs best interests at heart, it was clearly business deal with an unknown outcome. Everytime we lose its the board need to go, fan ownership is over, we need a new Manager (Morrison?). I love what Crewe do, they always give a manager a fair crack of the whip, not jumping straight on their backs adding pressure which long term can affect confidence. Some get off on waiting for people to fail. I will say it again, some on here where saying Bignot was the man, I must say he has really worked wonders at club with an investor?. Not defending Jonno or Bern, but we have to be realistic , this ÂŁ100k is pledged money by the way, not sat in the bank. Money doesnt grow on tree's, not interested in Curzon and what they are doing, only interested in my club and i would like to think we can turn this around Surely 4 years is enough to see that all they are doing is bringing in their mates from Salford and previous clubs. I also think Crewe are a bit higher up than us too.

Last time we had a ÂŁ300k budget in this League we won it by 16 points, scoring 103 goals in the process. More money about now yes, but whilst there may be a lot of reasons for our extremely poor start budget isn't one of them. I mean when we can't afford to bring in new players and still got players playing for free i would say it certianly is... I am also sure that they couldn't afford the ÂŁ50 for players on trial at the start of the season. How people can believe this is working is beyond me!

This seasons budget has provided Morley and Johnson with in their own words "the best squad we have ever had at Chester", so is clearly not the issue here. The issue is either in the tactics/team picked, or the players the budget has been spent on. I guess time will tell. Could you please tell me who is playing for free currently, I was not aware of anybody who was? I know Askew came in on a short term deal, but as far as Im aware he is being paid?

Chester FC have a playing budget of ÂŁ300k - 0 Curzon Ashton have one of ÂŁ150k - 3 The budget is not the problem. The players it has been spent (wasted) on is.

I think the board have a very difficult few weeks ahead. If they lose at Darlo we are looking at a lowest League gate since reforming for the Blyth game. That impacts income, but sacking the managers will cost big money we dont have, the squad are contracted and there is no budget left for a new manager to bring new faces in. Its a Bignot situation all over again. Rock and a hard place. I think they definitely need an honest meeting with the management, and maybe a statement to support them would be forthcoming, but by 10 games if we are still playing the same suspects and shipping goals alarmingly they will have no choice.

Let's take a deep breath today and look at what they've achieved since being here:
1st season: inherited a side with a cash flow problem and needed to ship high earners out. Talk of back-to-back relegation among some fans. Managed a 9th placed finish.
2nd season: finished 6th on PPG. Slightly unlucky to lose in the playoff to the eventual winners.
3rd season: 3rd place when the league was declared null and void.
So they have made progress year on year. Perhaps not remarkable progress, but certainly steady progress. And with the exception of King's Lynn who were on an upward trajectory, most of the teams who have gone up from this division in recent seasons are ones who had been plugging away at the top end of the table for a while, like Stockport, Chorley and Altrincham. This is not a league where you assume the team that got relegated last season will go straight back up.
So to talk of sacking them after a poor first six games is pretty harsh and impatient, and I think it would be widely seen as foolish by outsiders.
However, football is a cutthroat industry and they do need to get their act together. Perhaps a reminder of what's expected of them both on and off the pitch would be welcome.
Jonno understandably took the opportunity last week to make the point that they always take risks and go for the win. It betrays that ideology to then go to Chorley with four centre-halves in the team and one underperforming striker on his own up front. That choice of line-up seemed a panicky reaction to Chorley's big win against Gloucester, but Gloucester played most of that game with 10 men and look to be in freefall - they've lost four in a row now. All it did was show too much respect to a confident team and invite them to have a go at us. It's not what I expect from Bern and Jonno so I hope they can get back to their normal selves soon as they don't seem at it to me.

Kept just 13 clean sheets out of 42 league games & with that squad had more than enough to make the play offs comfortably. 2nd season - Actually not to bad overall & did well to make the play offs. Were a contender for automatic for a large portion of that season. Defensively still not great but a big improvement. No absolute beatings. 3rd season - Not worth talking about as season was ended. Just think it's important to see perspectives from all sides, I think they have done ok. Is ok enough?

Before they came there were very genuine fears of us doing a double drop, they came in, got a bit of excitement going and quickly put together a squad that would at least guarantee a mid-table finish with the outside chance of a bit more.

And on top of everything else, there home record has been outstanding, losing only a few games in the time theyâve been here, something weâd missed for years prior to them turning up. Yes, this season has been awful on a few fronts and might lead to them leaving, but questioning what theyâve done before this season isnât right.

Main point I want to make is - six games. Weâve only played six games. Out of 42. Itâs clearly a rut, which all teams have at some point during the season, but the most important thing is what we do to get out of it. Thatâs down to the managers - go back to basics, play a system that the players are comfortable with and playing in their best positions, try to make us hard to beat (doesnât appear we practice defending set pieces/crosses - embarrassing amount of goals conceded in this manner).
If weâre still just above the bottom two after the festive period then serious thoughts must be had by the board to make a change, but until then, weâre not even a quarter way through the season yet.

I think there is always a bias towards the most-recent season. You see it all the time in the PL when people talk about KDB being the greatest ever because he's currently playing. I'd have to agree with the above, they were a huge saviour our first season which was a success i would say. thereafter i have questions regards recruitment and tactics and of course the FA Cup

Their overall record is OK - the expectation level from some of our fans is way too high for such a small club - too many people remembering the days before progressive clubs and bank rolled clubs have got so much bigger and we're nowhere near being in the top 92 clubs anymore.
The issue I have with the managers is the attitude at the moment, particularly Bernard - he seems to have lost the passion and belief. His post match interviews are a hard watches at present.
They have to get us through this FA Cup round against another struggling club. Another inept effort by the managers or below par performance by the players really isn't acceptable.

I was giving perspective as thatâs exactly the word you gave when trying to make out the first season should have been a successful one due to the players onboard at the time. I donât think thereâs too many on here in the camp thatâs says weâve got 2 brilliant managers, most accept theyâre ok at this level and quite a few feel we can do better. My opinion is theyâve been good managers for us and for the first time since theyâve been at the club thereâs a big number of people that want them gone. I understand why but I think a decision will end up being made more to do with the fact that the board will feel pressured into making a decision due to constant threads like this, the negativity around the ground and the lower crowds weâve already seen rather than making a decision based on having someone better lined up. The vitriol, the negativity, the moaning wonât ever stop, itâll return after the next loss against a backwater town. Weâll continue on this cycle for the next few years until thereâs an acceptance that we have no divine right to be in the football league anymore. The negativity creates apathy which creates the cycle that weâve seen for the last 7 or so years. Fan ownership has worked for us, it can continue to work for us but there needs to be an understanding that fan owned or private owned you probably have 1 unbelievable season (a promotion) in 10 on average throughout the history of a lower league football club.

That's fair enough, quite a good response to my comment to be fair. That was the word I used myself but again I will say is ok enough? I'm torn whether I want to get rid because I mentioned on the Chorley match thread would a new manager have any more success with these players currently. Unlikely.

You didn't read my post properly. There absolutely was talk of a double drop before they came in, then they did and got a bit of excitement going amongst the fanbase. The board told them to consolidate considering the postion we were in and budget we had. They said we can hope for better than that and maybe challenge for the play-offs but there was never any expectation to be comfortably in them.
They quickly put together a side that would at least see us in mid-table and challenge for the bottom play-off places which we did. They met expectations really but were probably victims of their own positivity. God knows where we'd be if they hadn't been though, season ticket numbers were raised a few hundred solely because of it.

Point noted, apologies. However budgets don't necessarily determine where you are going to finish, it's how you spend the budget you have. If you spend it wisely you have a chance. If you don't you're screwed.

They had literally just won the league with Salford, there was no talk of a double drop at all. Play offs were being spoken about & rightly so. They failed that season like it or not! They came in and had to be positive, for me that season was all about survival. On and off the pitch.

Agree with you on that, it's why I'm not quite as fearful as some are about how we'd fare a league above if we got there. But on the same note there is no way we had the 9th highest budget in their first year considering the financial state we were in. They actually overachieved by the Board's expectations. Murphy wasn't chucking in loads at that point either, he put a bit in and subsidised a signing or two but pledged most of it for the infrastructure.
As I said, they were victims of their own positivity in my opinion, they didn't have reason to be other than belieiving in their own ability. But I'm glad they were like that as it helped get people back on side and drum up support, even if it means it will never be properly appreciated the true state the club was in at the time.

There was loads of talk about a double drop, to be fair. We have progressed steadily each season under their stewardship, weâve just had the occasional harrowing result or Cup/Trophy exit.

IF . . . we were to replace the management team, who would you like to see from the North West area as the new manager? Obviously, it would need to be a person who understood and was knowledgeable in our level of football and able to work sensibly within our financial constraints.

Think Paul Carden wouldn't be a bad shout, gone under the radar a little but has done well during his spell with Warrington. In 18/19 Warrington would have been promoted to the NLN, if it wasn't for the re-jig of the leagues, losing out to Kings Lynn. A former player, a bit of a risk, but might be worth a shot.

The more I read this message board and other social media platforms, ie Facebook and Twitter the more I think they should leave. Thereâs a division now, and it seems like certain posters, a big number I may add, have made up *THEIR* minds. Iâve made it clear I like them, they seem like good blokes that love it here and get the club. Theyâve been through more here in 3 years than most mangers wonât go through in a career and *THEIR* open book policy and transparency has been a breath of fresh. Can we at least show them a touch of respect by not posting things like this until theyâre out of the door, itâs classless.

ManAgers* đ - a manger is where the babies on the Chester Facebook groups lay to post their opinions.
Anyway, agree with your post - I thought the same, itâs not a debate to have whilst we still have a management team six games into the season.

I know it was a joke but I read all your posts in Jonnoâs voice and the phrases and words are familiar from his interviews and you do seem to be at their defenceâŠ..
