There are a few things to feel positive over I think. Be nice to have a thread we can read without hand over the eyes.
i) Last season is finished. Fantastic up til Christmas. Unmitigated disaster after. Put that away now, its gone. Hopefully JM has learned from his mistakes of this season. ii) I will never have to watch Hudson or Richards play for Chester FC again. Again, that episode can be filed away in the "Steve Finney" folder. iii) I am looking forward to watching Matty Waters continue his progress. He has proved me wrong, I thought him too lightweight, but every time he was called upon he was excellent. Just hope the manager trusts him more often. iv) Same for whoever the senior squad sign from the academy. Always liked the look of James Jones, a potential replacement for Sam Hughes? v) Also looking forward to seeing where big Sam ends up, and will watch his progress with interest. Our sale of him will hopefully mean we will benefit big time when he gets sold on as his potential is realised. vi) We have been told by MM that the budget will be bigger, we have released bigger earners in Durrell, Hunt, Hudson and Killock, so hopefully have a season ticket selling decent signing or two already lined up. vii) The board is now down to bare bones, so really looking forward to seeing who the board approach to co-opt to share the workload. viii) The CFU AGM is in November, and their will be new blood injected into the board. This usually means new ideas and a general blowing of fresh air through the club. ix) Some of the new things that our CEO has been working on should be rolled out shortly, so again new things to see, hopefully a new volunteers charter making those who put in so much time and effort into the club at their own expense feel a little bit more valued than they currently do.
So come on Blues, look up not down, we're still here, we are not at the hands of the banks or some mercenary money launderer, and August is a new season.
COYB.

If James Akintunde stays and remains fit I feel that Chester have a very good player and will score a lot of goals.

Biggest thing for me now is seeing some more of these young lads breaking through into the first team. James Jones, and Nathan Brown would be good. Few people I know think (again like Waters) that he's too lightweight for this level. Hopefully with time he'll develop into a very good player - and god knows we need a decent alternative on the wing

Nathan Brown in our academy is apparently considered the most exciting prospect to ever come out of our academy. Certainly impressed me when I have seen him. I heard he was highly rated by Manchester City, but released due to his size. This is a physical league but I'd love to see him have a go in the first team and possibly some time out on loan to play with adults. Let's hope we've got a situation similar to Sam Hughes in the future... £££

Good to see a positive post on here!
Problem is, until we see the replacements we won't know whether they're positives, or not. That balloon of euphoria may soon be burst.
Anyway, today the sun is shining. Some players are leaving. Let's enjoy the moment while we can.

We've also been told we will have some very positive news today. Best for the club to get the negative, the released list, out the way early now we can move forward and build for next season. Macca will be given a bigger budget which gives me optimism. Let's not forget who signed Durrell; who everyone is disappointed has left.

I do recall people complained last year as Macca stalled over his retained list when others were naming theirs so the fact he's come out so early shows that he really is growing into the management role.
This was, whatever said, his first ever season as a manager. You couldn't ask for more in a season to learn from, the highs and the lows.

I know I keep saying it but the jury is still out on MM in my eyes, nevertheless this forum certainly needed this thread this morning so I thank you for it NWAS.

Agree with a lot of the original post, although I must say I don't think Waters has the attributes for this level. Not defensively minded enough to be a right back, but also lacks the trickery to be a winger. His biggest asset appears to be his distribution but that only gets you so far. Would love to be proven wrong as its great for current youth teamers to see the likes and him and Sam get their chance.

He plays as a striker in training and scores for fun. Then when called upon gets put out wide. How is that good management? If you want him at right back/right wing then getting him training there. Just heard news about Tom shaw as assistant. Quite happy with that although I still think we need to find a way of relieving ourselves of JM.

Just seen the Tom Shaw news. That's good news! Must be better than a part time assistant. Keeps him here as a player too.
Using Iwelumo in a striker coach capacity should be good too. He's been around and done it. He should be able to help young strikers in their development.

It will be easier to be positive without having to sit through 90 minutes of rubbish, then listen to McCarthy being interviewed
Point 2 has cheered me up no end

I do think we are in for an interesting close season. I am hopeful and positive that we can a few decent National league players who bring in some renewed determinism. We have an extra squad place already with Killock going.

My day has got even better coming home to all of the news.
(1.) Tom Shaw as assistant: Great to hear as this appointment could be very similar to Ian Sharps. At the same time I think it is better for us regarding Iwelumo. I didn't want him to leave but we do need someone who can turn up to every game (Shaw). Also, we now have a full-time striker coach with bags of experience. Credit to Macca. (2.) The three youth lads: I watch all of their home games and I have been really impressed with them. James Jones is a really tall centre half who can be the next Sam Hughes. I'm not rubbing it in, but I actually think he looks a bit like Ben Heneghan and can be just as good. Tom Crawford is also a great capture. He is great at looking for a pass and can pick up loose balls in midfield. Really excited for him. Finally, Nathan Brown. He can run the show on his own at times. He has deadly pace, good close control and a dangerous eye for goal. A real asset who fully deserves his contract. Hopefully the three of them get some game time next season and this is a real step forward for our development. (3.) Ryan Astles: Great to hear that we have retained the big man again. (4.) Harry White: Really pleasing to have snapped up a striker already from a fellow national league club. A young lad who scored a few last season and I can't wait to see him in action.
So, a vital day today which in my opinion has turned Macca's tables around. COYB!

Fully agree, loads to be positive about going forward even with our terrible form post xmas.
I'd like to see a few more go in the next few days, don't want to bang the same drum but I think a fresh start would be good for JM and the fanbase and players like George and Chappell have had their chance and rarely taken it.
White is a good signing, hopefully with a full season he can be our 20+ man.

Where are the moaners? 🤔

Post by sirfred on May 2, 2017 16:50:56 GMT
I'm not going to moan for moanings sake - my main gripe was that we were going to offer the whole squad new contracts and today we saw a clear out which is what we needed - another plus is Shaw as assistant and one of my favourite strikers has signed in Harry White a great player - so today is not for moaning

To be fair, moaning about the performances since Xmas was not unreasonable - it's when it got applied to everything Macca and the club are doing, even good things.
Macca deserves credit for a good first day of signings and releases. Motivated to go on Football Manager and clear out my Chester squad 😜

No need for that . Most fans have been supporting this club years before you were born have been fully justified in expressing their discontent at the way the season unfolded. I suggest you also look back at some of your recent posts.

glad to see the back of kane 41 appearances and 12 goals is not really anything special for a striker ok he was in and out last season but he had the chance to make amends and bottled it also his attitude was poor

Another positive thought, think we need a negativity thread where all the perpetual whingers can get together and feel positive about themselves in that they all agree with one another. I only jest, if we were all of the same opinion what a poor discussion board this would be, sad to see the name calling getting more prevalent though, no need at all for that.

Oh dear Rio. Look at the title of this thread. It is not an appropriate thread for moaners, is it. Sensibly they have afforded this thread the correct respect.
