On the back of a narrow win over Southport we are on home turf once again as we host Pontefract Collieries at home tomorrow in the Emirates FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round where we hope this will be the benchmark for a successful run. Our first team have already been successful at the Deva this week, while our youth team were also triumphant on Wednesday, so it would be brilliant if our seniors were to make it a hat-trick of victories tomorrow. It’s important we don’t underestimate Pontefract by turning up expecting it to be a walkover, especially given our record against lower league sides over the years. I’m confident that as a Chester supporter himself, Calum McIntyre will know this too well. When in charge of our academy Calum guided them to several lengthy cup runs, so let’s hope that he will be the man to give our first team a long-awaited run in the FA Cup, as we are very much due one. Our last match was on Tuesday as we won 1-0 at home against Southport in what was arguably a game of two halves. The first-period was a sluggish affair, as we failed to really get going with us creating very little. We did have the ball in the net 12 minutes in, as Danny Devine slotted in, but unfortunately it was chalked off due to Kole Hall being booked prior to that. It was no surprise that it was still goalless at half-time - owing to an uneventful half. However, we performed better in the second-half given we created plenty of chances. Eight minutes into the half we took the lead courtesy of Kole Hall, who dispatched into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Former Seal Jordan Archer was a whisker away from equalising for Southport, but fortunately he could only flick a header onto the post. We saw out the game to record a slender but important victory. Pontefract Collieries ply their trade in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One East and will be making the venture from Yorkshire looking to cause a huge upset. The Colls were promoted to Step 4 for the first time in their history in 2018, following back-to-back promotions from Step 6 and Step 5 respectively. Pontefract’s first ever campaign in Step 4 was an impressive one, as they reached the play-off final in the 2018-19 season - losing 0-3 to fellow Yorkshire counterparts Brighouse Town in May 2019. The Yorkshire outfit have since failed to win promotion to Step 3 for the first ever time, however they have made a strong start to this current season having failed to lose in any of their five league clashes. Pontefract sit just one point outside the play-off places, so they are certainly no pushovers. Best case scenario would obviously be to just win the tie tomorrow, because given how many Saturday/Tuesdays we have throughout the season, we could really do with avoiding a replay to save our legs. Although Pontefract Collieries play two divisions below us, I still think we should try and field our strongest possible team as we need to take the FA Cup incredibly seriously. Thankfully for us, Joe Lynch and Adam Thomas’ suspensions are now over, so they will be available for tomorrow which is a huge boost for us. Come On City 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️! 𝙎𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚 - Chester FC (Stephenson, Devine, Burke) 3-1 Pontefract Collieries (Allott). 𝘼𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 - 1,483 (66 Pontefract Collieries). However, you can still buy a ticket on the day of the game tomorrow afternoon from our ticket office, but with cashless turnstiles in operation payment by card is strongly encouraged. Calum seemed very 'up for cup' in his interview after Tuesday. We should have a bit too much for them but they will come and have a real go.

Why not "just go for it" and delete the expleatives Because this forum is going the way of old DC with no personality. Come on, read match report, log off, no humour, no nothing. Apart from people winding each other up about political parties and people getting wound up by people posting about political parties. You can see why people don't bother with this place.

Really looking forward to this one. Although it's not been friendly to us over the past few years, you still can't beat the magic of the FA Cup. Nice home tie against opposition we really should be turning over and a decent weather forecast to boot.
Think Cal will treat this one a bit more seriously than B&J seemed to, so I'm going to dare to dream of a 5 or 6 goal win. Then again, I think I had much the same confidence going into the Marske replay last season!

Should be a good watch if Pontefract set up as expected - “You can sit back all day long and still lose the tie. They have good players with good ability so what we don’t want to do is have any regrets about how we set up. We want to go there and express ourselves and if it is good enough on the day then great.” Chester 2-1 Pontefract. Stephenson and Williams. 1,295 with 107 away

We have been absolutely starved of a cup run for years now so let’s set the tone and put 4 or 5 up this pub team.
Be good to get 1500+ in and put on a display.
All roads lead to one of Ipswich, Sheff Weds, Bolton, Derby, MK etc in the 1st round !

Probably a poor description, given our dismal record against other 'pub teams'. Whatever your views on Bern and Jonno, they proved to be absolutely inept in the Cups. Hopefully Cal has a bit more nouse but make no mistake we will have to earn a win. Hopefully their manager doesn't read this forum, if any more motivation is needed.

Respect, it’s something that’s sadly missing in football for some reason we have to hate players and fans of other clubs just because they have the nerve to be playing against us. Visiting goalkeepers used to get a good reception from the home end when he took his place in goal but now he is called a wanker and other such insults, I think it shows class to show some respect to other clubs unless they give you a reason not too.

I wouldn’t call that glamorising MK, just the fact their stadium would be a good day out. And if their manager needs to read this forum to motivate his side then he needs to have a think about what he’s doing. Come on lads let’s put 5 or 6 up this social club XI !

Have to show Pontefract respect otherwise it could be another Marske, Royston, Dunston Electrics horror show. That said the likes of Willoughby, Hall, Devine, Coates, Stephenson and McHugh should be too strong but this is the cup and this is Chester.
