It's like not being a CFU member but still watching Chester, why do we need to register? Well you don't need to register, but this poll is to determine what the majority prefer. I'm not going to try and sway opinion one way or the other, my thoughts are on the original post, I'm just curious as to what stops a regular guest from signing up.

I do think it was worthwhile to test the waters with guest posting but for me the cons far outweigh the pros. Too much crap gets posted, it may get cleaned up but someone has to do it and it’s annoying that it happens in the first place.
I’m not sure why regular guest posters can’t just sign up anyway, the forum would hardly become a closed shop. It couldn’t possibly be easier, surely it's actually more difficult to have to type out your guest name each time???

This place has gone to the dogs already. Ban guest if you like but it will further ruin whats left of the place. Can I just ask why you haven't registered? You come here a lot so I'm curious. It's not a loaded question, I just genuinely want to know what is stopping regular guests from registering. Because he is arrogant and believes he can say what he wants anywhere without recourse. I suspect some guests have multiple names as well.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and speculate that there are few moaners who post multiple negative posts in the same thread, under different guest names, to try and cause some negativity.

At first, I was happy to have guests posting. It was a "everybody welcome" approach which was fresh. Over time though, the idiots have come to roost and I'm sure it's only added to the workload of removing inappropriate posts. I've therefore voted for NO guests. It takes 30 seconds to register and log in with a username after all.

1 in 4 registered members say keep guests, I'd say that might warrant a guest forum, Just to give them somewhere to vent their spleen if needed. The guest forum wouldn't need moderation as it would be completely separate from everything else, and an exclaimer to tell people what kind of content may be on offer would be present on the page before entering. This would only encourage the more sensible guest posters to register and post where they like.
Also I think a pinned topic, Or idiots guide, which explains how easy it is to register would be good. Therefore the site is doing everything it can to gain more registered members.
Win, win for the moderators and the people who don't want to sift through the nonsense

I should add, once the more reasonable posters have registered, The guest forum could be closed down and everyone would live happily ever after.

It's like one of McCarthy's interviews every time you post! My opinion is that it takes two seconds to register. If you want to contribute there is no reason why you can't register. Maybe a pinned post with some FAQ regarding support for those struggling to register due to technical problems. Takes away that reason/excuse.

Looks like the majority vote is for members only. I will let this play out for another day incase there are people who haven't seen this but the likely option seems to be members only but with a guest forum.

500 members and only 57 votes.
You need to keep the vote open for longer than a day for a proper democratic approach Big Si.
Unless you want to act based on 10% of the membership?

At the moment it's quite fun trying to spot the WUMs. It's a bit like 'You've Been Framed', where you know some of them are staged to get hold of the £250!
Joking aside, often I'll quickly come on here whilst having a 5 minute cuppa break from work. It would be better to cull some of the nonsense so I can be reading sensible points from Chester fans.

Members only please. There's nothing more annoying than coming on and finding some bell end of an opposition fan has guest posted just to be a WUM.

Members only please and let's keep the swearing down, after all there are younger fans that read this site as well, We do try to moderate where we can, but please feel free to report anything and we will do our best to remove or tidy up anything offensive. Its much easier as we get a notification, rather than trying to trawl through every post. Cheers

So Wxm fans can post if they are members but CFC fans cant if they dont register . Its the first step towards a forum like DC1 is that what we want ? A closed shop for the "im a better fan than you " type of supporter . It would drastically cut the number of people posting overnight . Again ,is that what we want ?

Its not a closed shop though is it, all you have to do is register, we are not asking people to pull their own teeth out or give blood, but to take two minutes to register. Whether that's a WXM fan who takes the time to do that, so be it, not my cup of tea posting on opps forums but each to their own. If you cant be bothered to register, then I think you need to ask yourself why, rather than asking us why do I need to.

I have tried several times and it wont allow me to register ,and whatever arguements you put forward it will affect the number of people posting . The fact that guests cant take part in the poll proves the point i make about a closed shop
