Right, now the season is over (thank god) then it's time to thrash this one out.
The board has been live for a few months now and hopefully those who were wary about registering have now had plenty of time to see how things go and would consider signing up. However, I know there's quite a few who don't contribute a lot or would be deterred from registering because of guests. We have plenty of well informed guest posters on here who make a valued contribution - it would be a shame to see these guys go, however if they come here fairly often then what would stop them from registering?
My own opinion......I liked guest posting at first as I really wanted this DC to be as inclusive as possible and I like that opposition fans can come and contribute without the bother of registering. However, it does make it very easy for people to log on and spout complete nonsense or just stir trouble - over time I perhaps could only see this getting worse and I don't wish to spend each Saturday night after another bad defeat having to referee some of the drivel that we sometimes get. So ultimately my vote would be to go towards members only, but as I've always said this board is not about me and I'm interested to see what the overall majority is on the poll and what people's feelings are towards it. So fire away.....

I voted yes.
But I think there should be a guest forum

Allow Guests.
Started it up as an open forum, so it should remain an open forum for all.

Many pros and cons for either approach but I'm opting for members only I'm very much of the "quality not quantity" view cos e.g having to trawl through posts that are patently from WUMs etc to get to the subject matter is annoying to say the least. Granted some guests do post "well" but I guess they wouldn't have any objections to registering properly
You guys as mods have a difficult enough job without having to monitor people with no genuine interest in contributing to the debates (I suspect there are a few registered but that's another issue) and are perfectly entitled to have a life of your own. Given the sorry state of affairs on the old DC where it was impossible to register, I personally am thankful for your efforts to date - keep up the good work!

What I particularly dislike about guest posts is the people who come on with another well-known user's name or a parody of it, just to make some stupid comment or effortless trolling.
It's so easy to register on this forum.

I have no problems with guests posting, but it only takes 2 seconds to register so why not?

I think removing guests because of the few will be a real shame. An open board is refreshing.

Guests can use a different name every time they post which can't be right. You have to ask why no other club allows people a free rein to post and with some clubs, including one very nearby, you have to register even to read the posts.
On a different note, should the forum continue as Deva Chat or should we be Chester Chat?

No Guests, it gets too messy and with people pretending to be rio and other people it gets very annoying

Get rid of guest posting please. Asap. Agree, just makes a mockery of the place. The guests who provide good discussion I'm sure will be happy to spend 30 seconds to sign up. What it will put off is WUM's, who won't bother signing up, and if they do, then mods can simply ban them.

Definitely want fans from our opponents constructively posting on here, including our local rivals.
I agree that these guys should be encouraged with a simple sign on and avoid the trolls who post to easily and ridiculously.

I am signed up but whenever I come on I seem to be treated as a guest. Can someone tell me how I come on as a member so I can vote? My vote would be members only. what has happened to AVFO who supports Halifax and is a mine of information on national league matters. Come back AVFO!

Really not that difficult to sign up if people genuinely want to contribute

there will be mischievous posters whether they are guests or have to be registered.
I haven't seen that many posts that have caused issues maybe the mods have deleted them before I have seen them.... this board would be a lot quieter with out them.
banter is part of football....

No guests. Quality of posting has gone downhill after a promising start. Have to trawl through loads of dross to find the decent posts. Fear that some of the decent posters have already been driven away...not heard from AVFO for a while. As long as new registered users are processed quickly there should be no problem.

I like the guests. As someone else said further up, this place is better than old deva chat as it's an open forum. Let's leave it that way.
Looking at the voting it seems like guests will be removed so at least have a separate guests forum.

Do not try to add a space when typing your username. Mine is oaksblue but when registered fully you can change this to Oaks Blue in the settings if you wish

It's like not being a CFU member but still watching Chester, why do we need to register?
