The incident had been referred to in passing on here on the locked thread - this appears to be a separate investigation to the scenes at the end of the game. Hope the fan gets well soon, would imagine it would impact eating, drinking and talking for several weeks. www.cheshire.police.uk/news/cheshire/news/appeals/2023/5/appeal-for-information-following-serious-assault-at-chester-fc-match/"Detectives are appealing for witnesses and video footage after a man was seriously assaulted at the Deva Stadium in Chester.
On Monday 8 May police were made aware that a man had been assaulted the Chester FC versus Brackley Town match.
The incident occurred at half-time at the play-off match on Sunday 7 May. The victim, a 55-year-old Chester fan, entered the toilets in block H at around 3.30pm
While he was in the toilets, the man heard a group of three fellow Chester fans who were chanting an inappropriate song.
The victim challenged the group and was subsequently attacked by the three men, resulting in him sustaining a broken jaw.
The victim has very little recollection of the offenders, all he can remember is that there were three men, one of whom was wearing a white t-shirt and had brown hair.
Detective Constable Luke Cassell, of Chester CID said:
“This was a totally unprovoked attack and we are committed to doing all we can to identify the people responsible.
“The victim in the case had gone to the match to support his club, and as a result he was attacked by three men who claim to be fans.
“These men are not proper fans, you go to a match to enjoy the game with your fellow supporters, not to attack them.
“I would urge anyone with any information in relation to the incident, no matter how small, to contact the team here at Chester CID on 101.”
Enquiries in relation to the disorder at the end of the match remain ongoing.
No arrests have been made at this stage, however officers remain committed to taking robust action against all those found to be involved, including possible banning orders.
Anyone with any information in relation to the assault, or the wider disorder at the match should contact Cheshire Police on 101, or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML 1539302."

And we seen ‘possibly’ someone of the same group on Twitter offering to show up fans houses if they grassed people in? Not the sharpest tool in the box is he, especially considering his previous court appearances. Glad the club seems to be coming down pretty firm on this now and I reflect I may have got carried away in anger after the incidents, but it stems from more embarrassment of being a Chester fan. Especially devoting time and a lot of money to this seasons - ST, away games, shirts etc I mean BBC Sport article on the playoffs didn’t show a picture of the great crowd, just the cavemen after.

Jesus. Fair play to the poor guy for having the balls to challenge people like this. Just a shame he a) has to and b) has to suffer something like this as a result

Unfortunately there are two by products of trying to do the right thing,
One, you take a beating or two you get arrested for fighting at a football match even if you are just defending yourself.
Fair play to the chap for saying something but you can see why a lot of people "turn the other cheek"
Hope he gets well soon.

The club sharing the appeal might have more joy, as by definition the club's site and social media has more of a relevant audience for someone who may have seen something or has pictures / video.

The embarrassment continues. These divvies need to find something else to do on a Saturday. They do nothing but drag the club’s name through the mud. Why are people so angry? Best season we’ve had in years and these people think they’re in football factory.

It is just gets worse. Totally dispiriting. The Club is at a tipping point. It has to act emphatically in the coming weeks. The cause are the idiots. No doubt. No one else to blame. However the Club has a duty of care to all in the Stadium - spectators, players, officials. They need to put in place procedures to stamp out anti social behaviour. Ideas. Banning culprits - a START has been made. More action needed asap. Ban all sales of alcohol inside the ground (not the Blues Bar or the Legends Lounge.) Bag searches and pat downs at all turnstiles. No smoke bombs etc in the ground. Zero tolerance of anyone going on the pitch for any reason. Thrown out and, depending on the circumstances, banned. More police presence in the ground. NOT overkill. Just sensible. There to support the stewards. Stop opening the gates for half time smokers. Asking for trouble. This guy who was injured was doing the right thing. Credit to him. Hope he recovers well. For the record. I am not a strict disciplinarian. Not in the slightest. But I am tired of this shit ruining our Club. Started way back in the first game as the reformed Clun versus Colwyn Bay. Enough. Clear it out. Have a peaceful two seasons and review the situation.

This is the sort of thing I'd expect at Milwall. Why are these cunts so intent on violence? Beating up your own fans is absolutely disgusting. Hope he has a swift recovery. Wonder if they try posting on here again throwing their weight around trying to intimidate. Fucking pathetic the lot of them.

Edited for accuracy Edit your own posts my friend. Your change is in no way accurate. Thuggish behaviour is potentially ruining our Club, not - as you suggest - running our Club. And if you think I am over reacting, just wait until sponsors and advertisers review their relationship with a Club with a reputation for violence and disturbance. Wait until those injured, like the Brackley fan with a black eye, considers suing the Club for not ensuring a safe environment within the ground. What happened last Sunday. What happened at the very first game of the season when drunken "fans" trashed the toilets at Alfreton. Those actions, and similar, are ruining our Club. Needs to stop. Now.

Disgusting thing to happen. The stewarding and policing at the ground really does need looking into but for this incident surely our CCTV should help? It is meant to be state of the art isn't it? It should show who has walked to the toilets around the same time as the unfortunate gentleman.

The guy who stood up to these three morons is an absolute hero. We should all have the confidence to be able to challenge inappropriate chanting.
I can still vividly remember when I was a young fan witnessing an obviously hateful vicious racist chant by a fellow (adult) Chester fan, real BNP stuff. At that age I didn't have the confidence to do anything about it of course. But it stuck with me.
Anything like this needs stamping out and we all have a responsibility. Particularly with so many young fans coming along now.
That 55 year old man is an absolute hero.

Maybe if the line was also drawn where the ‘We all hate Welsh scum’ chant was concerned, then that would be another clear indication where the bar is for unacceptable behaviour. There is huge potential this side of the Flintshire border. Surely the fanbase can see that?

Felt there was a bad atmosphere at this game and it’s a shame because I had my 9 year old with me and it isn’t great for her to be subjected to it.
There was a bloke in a pink top in front of us in the south stands 2 young daughters with him, winding up the away fans from the outset, a group of older fellas in the way stand with a far better sense of humour than him. He got on the phone to his mates in H block by about 30 mins in, had his daughters shouting all sorts of obscenities at the away fans, his wife was doing this weird act of pretending to be embarrassed whilst egging him on.
Simply a case of him being happy to give it out but couldn’t take it back, he disappeared off out the exit gate at half time and then came back in through the other gate.
I think the club really need to get a handle on this behaviour, it seems to be more and more clowns entering the pitch over recent years, something that was very rare in the past because people were not welcome back if they did it.

As for the little scrot bullies who ganged up on a decent law abiding Chester fan in a toilet is absolutely abominable. I know this guy, he is a decent chap and he wouldn't hurt a fly yet he has been subjected to this appalling attack whilst visiting the gents. I was talking to him a couple of weeks ago and he isn't a current season ticket holder for whatever reason but does attend most games. I think he would be overjoyed if we could arrange a season ticket for him as a sign of gratitude for standing up for common decency. Hats off to you Squire 👏

Hats off to you Squire 👏 As a longstanding Welsh Chester fan I must admit it has always irked me, so much to the point that one game some years ago I just got up and walked out. If I had had enough just as a supporter what encouragement does it give to a Welsh player. We as supporters want these players to give their all for the club whilst constantly being abused, where is the motivation for said players? I don't understand it when you consider the amount of Welsh players we have had down the years. It does seem that with the quite correct crackdown on racism towards black / asian people the one target left for bigots are the Celtic nations.
