We have had many posts on here saying get rid and the players aren’t good enough ,but games like today and Buxton prove they are good enough to not just make the playoffs but win the league .we just needed Cal to believe. Cal set up the team no different to usual. We only scored loads because they were just shit. How many shit teams have taken points off us this season.

Well that was enjoyable, pretty sure that's the biggest away win I've seen in 40 years supporting Chester. Murray MOTM for me, won the penalty, came a whisker away from a beauty in the top corner and created havoc. Best goal of the game was the Gloucester goal, that was some strike, although he should have been closed out sooner on the edge of the box.
We could have had a 1-0, 0-0, and 1-0 in our last three games and been better off than we are despite those great results with the astonishing ten goals I've seen us score in the last two away games, but that's just one of the realities and quirks of football. That goal difference could be absolutely critical though. On to Brackley. * Licks lips.

Looks like Cal is going all out for a goalless draw with that line-up. This aged well.

I’m not going today so I’ll predict a 0-3 demolition job. Weeks, Murray & Peers to score. Even better than I predicted. Had a feeling we’d put a few past them. Torn between thinking that another Cal Mac away masterclass is on the cards at Brackley & worrying about what a tough proposition they are. I had written the playoffs off as unobtainable but I’m starting to think maybe, just maybe, we’re hitting a bit of form at just the right time. I was absolutely certain, 100% convinced we were going to win them last year, maybe being almost as convinced of the opposite this year means we’ll actually do it for the first time in my lifetime.

Not a good day for football fans in Gloucestershire; Gloucester City relegated, and both Cheltenham and Forest Green Rovers in deep relegation trouble, both losing today.

National league relegation battle still wide open apart from Oxford City who went a while ago. National league North, Banbury (not mathematically, but realistically due to goal difference), Bishop's Stortford and Gloucester City all relegated. The last relegation place could be anyone from Southport in 15th to Farsley Celtic in 21st as only 4 points separate seven teams. In the NL South, Yeovil could have won the title today, but faltered by losing 1-3 at home to Worthing. At the bottom of that league, Dover already gone a while ago, Havant & Waterlooville almost gone, but a mathematician and three wins could in theory see them safe, Torquay looking in real trouble, just two points off the drop, and Taunton have two games in hand on them.

Hopefully Brackley take their foot off the pedal as play offs secured and Darlington are safe by the time we play them. Can’t see Alfreton or Curzon slipping up though Not likely, as they will want to clinch third place. The game against us is almost like an eliminator playoff as they will want to reach the semi-finals by finishing in the top three.

We've now scored the same as Brackley (57) but conceded one fewer than them. A few more 1-0 wins would have had us right up there.

I reached the ground late and asked bloke way to the ground...his son was their centre half. Said they were as good as relegated. I interestingly he said they lost 2-1 against Tamworth but he thought they weren't a good team.

Tonya I believe Tamworth boss Andy Peaks described their 2-1 win at Gloucester City as fortunate and a bonus 3 points which backs up your point . On to todays game which was played for the most part in rather strong winds . I had a feeling we would score a few today beforehand. There wasn’t really anything in the game first 15 or so . Even at that stage you could see that they are presently a poor side for the division . We started to dominate . I wouldn’t say we created a bucket full of chances be did more than enough to warrant the 2 goal lead we took into the break . We sat back at the start of the second half and offered nothing going forward first 10 or so and they scored a super goal from the edge of the area giving Stanway no chance . Then from nothing we got a well taken third on the break and from that moment we looked like we would add to the tally every time we attacked and of course did manage another 3 goals. We took out chances well and were rather clinical second half albeit against a rather poor outfit . It will be much tougher next week . They play from what I have seen the sort of game that should hopefully allow us to play and express our game . So I think it will be an enjoyable contest in Northamptonshire next week. I think I will leave talk of the play offs until after next weekends game. It we can get a result which will be tricky it will be interesting to see what is required from the Darlington game who will hopefully secure their status in the division next weekend . Can’t remember the last time we scored 6 ? Anyone provide info on our previous 6 nil wins . I think around 20 year ago we best Tamworth 5-0 as I remember but I’m struggling on games with 6

Just got to win every game now and see where it takes us, which I think Cal has said himself.
Firstly it's worth noting that Gloucester were horrific, I mean they had Elliott Durrell at right back and a 39yo Danny Wright came on with bleached white hair in a baby man bun (early mid life crisis would be my guess there).
What was clearly evident to me was how relaxed and smiley Calum was before and during the game. Came and gave us a big clap before, laughing and joking throughout you could see just how much more comfortable he felt away from the Deva. Wasn’t particularly happy with how he seemed to just settle for the 2-0 after half time though and needlessly invited them on to us. We didn’t push for our goals later on, they just sort of happened.
Burke getting his two from corners which just really frustrates me that we never get him and the other bigger lads from the back up for free kicks. If we’d done that all season we’d be several goals and a few points better off probably.
Murray also brilliant, although he clearly thrived on the surface and against that sort of opposition.
Nice day out to be fair, plenty of Chester fans (200ish there) mixing about in Gloucester Quays in the sunshine.

I think that was around Feb 1987. We also beat Fulham at home 7-0 and if I'm not mistaken that was 5th April 1989. I missed that one as I'd just moved down South.

Someone has mentioned us beating Hinckley 6-0 in 2012/13. Think that was the last time we scored 6 (apart from the 8-2 v Aldershot). It's also our record away win since at least the 1930s. We also won 6-2 at Stalybridge in the same season. I can remember us beating Trafford, Ossett Albion and North Ferriby 6-0 at home.

We have missed out through an inability to take points from the weaker teams. In games against Darlington, Rushall, Bishop Stortford, Banbury, Buxton & Blyth we have dropped 16 points out of 33. In other words we have only taken just over 50% of the points available. This is why we will probably miss out.

Someone did the maths recently but broadly speaking we take twice as many points off the teams above us than those below - how bonkers if that?!
