Had a quick look at the Gloucester forum. Durrell is getting a lot of stick ...was he that bad? Not much sympathy for them...a decent club trying to run before it could walk, throwing silly money at wages. All became a bit of a vanity project.

Well I said pre-match that I reckon we’d find our shooting boots, but I certainly didn’t think we’d score that many!! We’ve scored more goals in our last two away games, than we have in our previous ten at home, so think about that one for a second!! It was an accomplished performance from start to finish, so I’m made up for Calum McIntyre and the team who must’ve had a really tough week in the build-up to yesterday. There’s still a glimmer of hope that we can make the play-offs, providing that we win our last two games, which’d be easier said than done. Sadly, two wins may not be enough, as seventh-placed Curzon Ashton are tied on 71 points with South Shields and Alfreton Town, so we’d just have to hope that any of them record fewer than three points in their remaining games, providing we win both of ours of course.
Now then, as mentioned it was an excellent showing yesterday, and it’s great to wake up this morning feeling elated, compared to being rather depressed on Tuesday. We officially relegated Gloucester City, and from their showing, you can see why they’ll be dropping down to Step 3, as barring a 10-minute spell, they were absolutely woeful. We’ve beaten them 9-1 on aggregate this season, which is some doing considering we don’t score many (well, until yesterday)! Funnily enough we also relegated the now-defunct Nuneaton Borough on this weekend in 2019, and it’s never nice to relegate clubs as we’ve been though it ourselves, so I do feel for the Gloucester supporters. Hope they come back up, but anyway we just had to turn up yesterday and do our job, and we did so in some style!
We were on top throughout the first-half. We came out of the blocks quickly by having a handful of shots in the opening 15 minutes to test the opposing backline. As said, The Tigers were awful and looked like a team who only met for the first time yesterday. Gloucester City could barely string a pass together, and whenever they had time on the ball, they just lumped it into the air, which was a bizarre thing to do given the strong wind. Roughly halfway through the half, Harrison Burke got the show rolling on his 100th Seals appearance, as he headed home from a loose ball. From a Gloucester perspective it was a rather comical goal for them to concede, as they made a meal out of trying to clear a Declan Weeks corner, but it’s about time we had some luck! Nine minutes before the interval, Tom Peers doubled our tally, as he pounced on a Iwan Murray ball to make no mistake.
Our second-half showing was very good again for the most part. Owen Brain scored a screamer to halve the deficit for Gloucester City, and in a 10-minute spell the home side put us under pressure. However, we ran riot in the end by adding a further four goals to bolster our goal difference. Firstly, Iwan Murray bagged his second assist of the game, by cutting the ball back to George Glendon who stroked home from close range. Murray was in the thick of it again, as he was hauled down inside the box which led to a penalty. Adam Thomas made no mistake from the spot to make it four. Harrison Burke then planted a header home from a corner for 1-5, before Ben Tollitt converted into the far corner to seal the deal in injury time.
My Man of the Match has to be Iwan Murray who ran the hosts ragged. He was a constant threat on the ball throughout, by making some neat one-twos. It was so refreshing to watch us play with a fast attacking tempo yesterday, which Iwan was a focal point of, compared to at home where we have a tendency of playing slow, sideways passes. Murray won us a penalty, some free-kicks in healthy positions, and put two assists to his name as well. Harrison Burke had a 100th appearance to remember by scoring two headers. Burkey didn’t put a foot wrong either, and played on with a bloodied nose - testament to his excellent commitment. There’s nothing Wyll Stanway could do for Gloucester City’s goal as it was a rocket into the top corner. In the first-half a few of his goal kicks went wayward, but that was more due to the weather than him. Everybody just did their jobs properly.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable day out from start to finish. The two Hipkiss Expresses arrived at 13:15, so myself and a couple of mates ventured to Gloucester Quays - just a 10-minute walk from the TigerTurf Stadium. We had a pint at the Brewhouse & Kitchen, and sat outside overlooking the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal; a nice setting for a pre-match beer. We then went to the Lord High Constable of England Wetherspoons, where a few exiles met up, which had a farmhouse-like feel to it inside. Certainly a very unique Spoons, and again we sat in the beer garden outside, in a square near Gloucester Market. Certainly a nice city in a lovely part of the country, so I’ll miss going to Glos next season.
At least we’re now the front runners of the chasing pack, plus we have a good goal difference if it were to go down to that as well. Brackley Town is always a tough place to go, however we’ve never lost at St James Park, and while a draw would be a good result any other day, it won’t be enough next week, so let’s hope we’ll preserve our unbeaten record at Brackley by picking up the three points. The Saints have made the play-offs yet again, but I’d imagine they’ll be wanting to stay in the top three, so it’ll be a very interesting encounter. Meanwhile, after that we’ll face Darlington, which really could go either way depending on possible permutations that afternoon. Former Seal Steve Watson has pulled off an absolute miracle at Darlo, by transforming a side who were about 10 points adrift, into a team who are now three places ahead of the drop. However, they’re not safe just yet, as they’re only two points above the dotted line, so depending on how they get on against Farsley Celtic, their game against us could be massive. Best case scenario would be for Darlo to be safe by the time we play them, so they can be hungover or at the beach when coming to the Deva. I have a lot of time for Steve, who did a decent job here in tough circumstances, but I really hope we do The Quakers in a fortnight. It’s crazy to think that 50 points isn’t enough to stay up this season, and 70 (possibly 74) may not be enough to make the play-offs. At least we still have a faint hope of making the top seven, so let’s all pull together and back Calum McIntyre in these final two games, because you just never know, miracles can happen!! Also, let’s just leave the arguments about tactics and recruitment for the off-season, as it’s doing Cal no good.

Win them both we will sneak in At the expense of who? I reckon Curzon and Alfreton will get in the play offs, but South Shields still have to play away to Tamworth. I think they'll lose there and Spenny will lose at Alfreton. Boston will blow it last day at Hereford and we'll win both our games and we'll creep into 7th on goal difference. Although you need to take into account that I haven't made one correct score prediction all season. 😁

Just got to win every game now and see where it takes us, which I think Cal has said himself. Firstly it's worth noting that Gloucester were horrific, I mean they had Elliott Durrell at right back and a 39yo Danny Wright came on with bleached white hair in a baby man bun (early mid life crisis would be my guess there). What was clearly evident to me was how relaxed and smiley Calum was before and during the game. Came and gave us a big clap before, laughing and joking throughout you could see just how much more comfortable he felt away from the Deva. Wasn’t particularly happy with how he seemed to just settle for the 2-0 after half time though and needlessly invited them on to us. We didn’t push for our goals later on, they just sort of happened. Burke getting his two from corners which just really frustrates me that we never get him and the other bigger lads from the back up for free kicks. If we’d done that all season we’d be several goals and a few points better off probably. Murray also brilliant, although he clearly thrived on the surface and against that sort of opposition. Nice day out to be fair, plenty of Chester fans (200ish there) mixing about in Gloucester Quays in the sunshine. Hinckley in 2013

The Aldershot game was played in front of a sub 1,500 crowd.

Tonya I believe Tamworth boss Andy Peaks described their 2-1 win at Gloucester City as fortunate and a bonus 3 points which backs up your point . On to todays game which was played for the most part in rather strong winds . I had a feeling we would score a few today beforehand. There wasn’t really anything in the game first 15 or so . Even at that stage you could see that they are presently a poor side for the division . We started to dominate . I wouldn’t say we created a bucket full of chances be did more than enough to warrant the 2 goal lead we took into the break . We sat back at the start of the second half and offered nothing going forward first 10 or so and they scored a super goal from the edge of the area giving Stanway no chance . Then from nothing we got a well taken third on the break and from that moment we looked like we would add to the tally every time we attacked and of course did manage another 3 goals. We took out chances well and were rather clinical second half albeit against a rather poor outfit . It will be much tougher next week . They play from what I have seen the sort of game that should hopefully allow us to play and express our game . So I think it will be an enjoyable contest in Northamptonshire next week. I think I will leave talk of the play offs until after next weekends game. It we can get a result which will be tricky it will be interesting to see what is required from the Darlington game who will hopefully secure their status in the division next weekend . Can’t remember the last time we scored 6 ? Anyone provide info on our previous 6 nil wins . I think around 20 year ago we best Tamworth 5-0 as I remember but I’m struggling on games with 6

On the subject of when we scored 6 goals for those of us old enough to remember a game in Div 4 back in February 1965 when we stuffed Wrexham 6 -1 with Jimmy Humes scoring a hat trick in front of crowd of nearly 15k.....surely there could not be no more satisfying League result? I was 12 at the time and stood on the fringes of the Sealand Rd End by the floodlight near the kiosk in the corner serving my apprenticeship before I was old enough to eventually join the Blacon B.B. in the heart of the Sealand End.

I wondered where he ended up as he showed great potential when with us. Was ok yesterday but not as good as he was. Having watched Brighton v Arsenal i would compare our win to that as although Brighton showed glimpses they were overwhelmed by superior players. Also we have our own Sako. I think i watched us score 7 against Peterborough many years back....Did you leave before the end then as that game finished 8-2 I'd just started a Saturday job at Woolworths so missed it. We went on to beat Colchester 4-0 at home the following Wednesday. There was another eventful home game against Peterborough a few years later which we won 4-3, all of their goals coming from penalties. The referee was not a popular man that day!

When Chester beat Peterborough 8-2 I was teaching at a secondary school in Peterborough. I have been a Chester fan since 1955. When I went in on the Monday I put the score in large numbers on my blackboard. The Posh fans among my form were not amused ! I suppose today I would be on the end of a complaint that I was hurting their feelings or perhaps infringing their human rights ! I think it is still Peterborough record league defeat.

Guys, guys, enough of all this nostalgia and wallowing in past glory. You will upset some of our younger fans who can't accept that there was life before National League North. Please, have some respect, they are very sensitive to any success in the past or reference to it. Try to remember that NLN is "our level" and it really doesn't help to dredge up all this nonsense. I know you're getting on a bit and memories maybe aren't what they were, but can I remind you there is a separate "old farts" section of the forum, and anything like this should go there. In particular there should be no mention of football league on here. Thanks

We have missed out through an inability to take points from the weaker teams. In games against Darlington, Rushall, Bishop Stortford, Banbury, Buxton & Blyth we have dropped 16 points out of 33. In other words we have only taken just over 50% of the points available. This is why we will probably miss out. spot on, absolutely nothing to do with a budget, we have got results from tougher side and not performed against weaker sides its as obvious as b***s on a bull dog.

Murray isn't the type of player we need to get us out of this league though as Tamworth have proved. Big mates with Cal though so will probably get another contract. Important cog in the machine on our travels in my opinion, especially on artificial pitches which there is an increasing amount of these days. Impact player off the bench at home.

We have to win both games now, Boston and Spenny who are below us currently, will go above us if they get anything from their game in hand, both v Banbury.
Hopefully secret agent Kole Hall, shrewdly placed on loan at Scarborough, will score winners against Boston and Spennymoor
Here's hoping

The bloke is obviously grinding his axe. Murray gets us up the pitch away from home.
