Confirmed as Lathaniel Rowe-Turner from Torquay Sounds exciting ..... can't remember us ever having a double-barrel before. Should that be Nathaniel?

No Lathaniel is his name.
Lot of experience at this level having played for Alfreton, Luton and Kidderminster as well. Says he knows Tom Shaw well and that was how the move came about.

Sorry sqzl only just see your message, yes Lathaniel Rowe-Turner. Left back from Torquay, can also cover at centre back.
Sadly Torquay and Alfreton fans are telling me he is the worst player they have had in years... hope he's on a small wage...

Let's give him a chance. He's been playing in this division for the last five years so you'd think he'd have been found out by now if he was that bad. Mind you, you'd probably say the same about Luke George!

I think he will be alright with who we already have at the back. On paper it's a top half back 4 for me. Now a central midfielder and a winger for me would nearly complete the squad. I would maybe compliment the weaker positions with a loan lad or two. Judging from his picture with JM he is delighted to have joined

Mind you, you'd probably say the same about Luke George! Exactly. Some players just aren't the right fit for a particular club, some never settle. We've had a few players come with decent reps and flatter to deceive, and gone on to do well elsewhere afterwards. We've signed players with pretty poor reps/plenty of clubs that end up doing very well for us (Alabi?) I'll always give everyone who plays for us a chance and judge them from what I see on the pitch.

I don't know much about him but I'm slightly concerned that a few of his recent clubs have either struggled or been relegated. Happy to see how he he shapes up for us though, hopefully McCarthy can get a bit more out of him. Tom Shaw has played with him and has clearly recommended him so that's got to be a positive thing.

Described as the worst player in the squad for Torquay the year they got relegated. If so, why is he still there 3 years later.
Hope it's just sour grapes from Torquay fans.

The first double barreled player since John Judas-Rooney.

Torquay fans are the most bitter fans around. Said we were the worst team they've seen in years after we won at their place?

The first double barreled player since John Judas-Rooney. Trying to think if we have ever had a hyphenated player before. Don't think Rob Marsh-Evans ever made a first team appearance.

Can't be that bad to have played every game last season, albeit in a struggling side. I'm guessing that Kevin Nicholson must have thought he was ok. Let's give the lad a chance eh.
Seems to fit the current bill of us going for experienced players.

anyone know where the highlights of Chester games vs Torquay are?
probably best assessment is how he did against us last season make our own minds up. Can't recall the home game and i think we only had 100 fans away
Odd interview when you watch the video, just wants to stay healthy...

Just checked and he's played for Luton, Alfreton and Kidderminster since he was relegated with Torquay. Going by his stats he was never relegated with Torquay, as he left there in 2012 after two seasons in which they made the play-offs and they went down two years later from League Two. He did suffer relegation since then though with Alfreton and Kidderminster.

Hmmm, I hope this is not just a cunning marketing ploy to earn extra cash by selling letters for the back of replica shirts.

He was offered a new contract at Torquay, so Nicholson obviously rated him somewhat. However, Chappel was the last one they sent our way and look at how that turned out!

I don't know loads about him, only that he has experience of this league with spells with Torquay, Kidderminster, Luton and Alfreton. I think a one-year deal is fair enough if not everything turns out for him. It's a fresh start for him, and I hope he turns out to be a successful player. Now I think we need another right-back for cover, another central midfielder and a winger, but our squad is looking nice now. Welcome to Chester FC Lathaniel! 🔵⚪️

We're only one solid defensive midfield player short of a picnic now, and then see what we can pick up in preseason. I think a lot will depend on the longer term health and wellbeing of the main group of 14 outfield players, with the hope for good progress as the season develops with the younger peripheral members. Let's save the budget now for any special players that crop up. I'm hoping to reach Christmas in a comfortable position and then maintain or even kick on! Mind you, I thought I was at that point last Christmas. Lightning and all that!

And Nicholson himself is a left-back and still registered as a player so I doubt he'd be playing someone awful ahead of himself - hardly a vote of confidence in your own playing ability.

He was bloody awful against us and his own supporters didn't have a good word to say about him. Seemed to think he's more suited to the South West Peninsular League.

Don't think we can really pass judgement until he pulls that top on, time will tell if like the others if he is good signing or not. We have had players join many times on the back of they where this and that, supposed to be quality signing. Been left disappointed plenty of times.
Good luck to lad, hope it works out for him.

Horwood and Waters will provide good competition to him. Horwood won't provide competition for anyone at left back. At best he is an adequate wing back. I sat in the stands watching a very poor Southport deserve to take the lead against an inept Chester when a speculative ball was collected by Horwood wide on the left. Beating Higgins he then brilliantly lobbed the keeper to win all three points. For that alone I'm glad he played for us last season. Where would we be now without those points? Thanks Evan.
