We know it's terrible! Hopefully we have a complete new idea and brand for the next season. It's is not possible to ever be Jealous of you lot Just think how those players will feel having to go back to the dump of a village to play football week in week out. Poor sods! And you are one of the moderators !!! rather sad little man aren't you ? You wont see a thread like this on RP as most of our supporters have bigger fish to fry and to be honest see you as a bottom of the table cert but I still think that you will survive and finish a surprising mid table. As for calling Wrexham a dump of a village ..grow up you fool you are making yourself sound silly and as the previous poster stated jealous. For the record the trip to Portugal is a training camp with a match thrown in tonight . I know if I was a footballer that would be a rather nice way to kick off what will be a tough new season for all of us. Yes I'm a moderator thanks for pointing that out, doesn't stop me from stating the facts! calm down and don't bite as much next time. and as for Dull passion don't even go there with that "Jester City thread!" obsessed doesn't even come close. |

Lets all relax. Fair play to Wrexham if they've got a sponsor that'll fly them out to Portugal, all expenses paid. Is that good for a non-league club? Yes. But is our preparation better? No doubt. Full Squad, the importance of which can't be under estimated, was back in pre-season training before any other club. We've chosen games against local teams, that may not be 'money spinning ties', but those teams will be playing at 100%, as we'll be the biggest team they play all season. Anyone at Runcorn Last night will testify to that, though Runcorn's fitness did see them tail off toward the end, our lads put in a shift. We've started off against 'Smaller' teams to build up fitness and cohesion, then building up competitiveness as the Pre-season goes on, to finish against two league teams at home. PERFECT PRE-SEASON.
Both ourselves and Wrexham are look strong. Would we like to have Kelly and Pearson in our squad, obviously. Likewise, I know many Wrexham fans personally, they would bite our hands off for Hannah, Astles, James, Halls, McCombe etc. I Do think we have the all round stronger squad, no doubt wrexham fans would differ.

Keep laughing, we are quietly confident about this season (yes I know, delusional as ever). Kingsley James the pick of the bunch? 4 or 5 of our signings have been promoted out of This league before. One was signed from league 1 and another was playing in the Scottish premier last season. I'm pretty sure Kingsley James is just a non-league journey man, talk about delusional. Each to their own though. If they were that good they wouldn't be back in this league now. One would still be in League 1, and another still playing in the Scottish Premier. Both teams have made some good signings but Wrexham are better equipped to make a challenge than we are. Let's not forget where we were a few years ago. Being in this league and playing Wrexham would have been a dream back then.
We'll finish around midtable and I can see them in the play/offs to be fair.

Depends what he means by "fans care more" - they certainly dig deep quicker and in larger numbers than ours who tend to moan about having to do so and are always asking what the club can do for them. |

Akintunde is a bit harsh he's had one career injury, just happened to be last season. But it was a bad one and he'll have to ease back in. Hopefully he's over it and is fully recovered. Same with White. I just wouldn't bandy those sort of words around! You never know who is going to get injured. Don’t think he’ll need easing back in, he came back for the final few games last season and has looked pretty sharp in the opening two friendlies this week as well, seems fine. I’ve pretty high hopes for him. On the Wrexham stuff, sure those who have travelled to Portugal are having a good time, nice freebie to blag to be fair. Not sure I’d be tweeting videos of myself singing about our rivals from a Portuguese bar if the roles were reversed though, I'm flattered but seems a bit sad. On the playing side of things, made some pretty good signings and might be up to challenging for a play-offs position. |

Im sorry but its not free if your deal included a 10 grand jolly to Portugal then thats 10 grand of the amount of money going directley into club coffers ie playing budget then that means efectively your fundraising efforts are 10 grand short you get nothing free in this world |

Personally i think it's all pointless until the actual season kicks off. Portugal is a pointless trip but one we wouldn't turn down if offered it by Swansway. Flint is a pre-seaso warm up, who really cares? That's all preseason is, warming up. Nobody would be satisfied in Wrexham if they finish 12th but had a great time ''on tour''. Let's save the humiliating Wrexham threads until the season starts.

I like that Chester are busy playing local teams as its probably better preparation that flying out to play some Portuguese randoms, that said, if we did it we'd all be out there on the piss in the sunshine.

I suppose it depends on what you want from your pre-season games.
Trips abroad will be good for team bonding, smaller local sides will be good to get us 'battle hardened' whilst higher profile matches (invariably against development squads from the Championship or League One) will test our defensive shape.

Who said Alabi turned us down? As far as I know we were never in for him, as for Cook he never turned us down the bid for him did off TRANMERE not the player. You lot could only dream of bidding for a player like Cook. Boden also banged goals in at this level for Mac and did well enough in league 2 for Newport, wisen up a little opening poster!
This thread is almost as embarrassing as the 'mind the gap' business last season you lot had! Anyone of you truthful would swap your side for ours, why wouldn't you want to be challenging at the top end rather than fighting relegation like you lot will be?

As for Portugal. We have a completely new team, it's as much a team building exercise as anything else, which is invaluable. We are also playing local sides- we've played Lex and Cefn already, we are playing Stafford Rangers at the weekend then Warrington, Alty and Chorley. By all means use it as some sort of stick to beat us with but I don't really see the arguements against it really, as a fan I'm pretty happy with how our preparation seems to be going, as I'm sure you lot are too.
Enjoy the rest of preseason and see you in the league.

I would have been well up for a Portugese jolly given half the chance! That said, some of the comments I've heard from both sides is a little cringeworthy... who is traveling further in preseason... who lives in the nicest area... who can bid for certain players etc. |
