made up with the 3 points, nothings really changed, the blokes still a buffoon, it just means he'll be ok for next 2 or 3 games, look on the brightside , less money we'll have to pay out when he does eventually get the bullet Always, always look for the negatives. Give him 10 games then let's review. You may be right that he has to go but relax a bit I think this weekend was make or break for him, regardless of what he said in the paper. He's a really nice bloke but that's not enough in a results business. He's done brilliantly well to win at Shots, undefeated in their last 17 at home.

I hope JM enjoys his success tonight but doesn't drop any clangers in the post match interview. We need positivity ahead of the Macc game.

Dead chuffed about this result. Have seen a number of smash and grab away wins over the years so always hoping.
If this builds a bit of confidence for Macc on Monday then great. Still have some improvement needed judging by the chronicle match report. Chuffed for Joyce to be part of that turn round given the abuse he gets on here.
Monday is huge now as there will be even more expectation. Let's back the lads again to deliver.

I'd play Dawson up front again or maybe the youth player Brown. Tom Crawford is the young striker, Nat Brown is a winger I think. In any case we shouldn't have to rely on our young players so we need to bring in cover. Tom Crawford is a central midfielder.

Fantastic result today we really to build on it now with three on paper winnable games coming up back to back. As MPW suggests a loan striker is probably desirable. Yes we may not get anyone in for the Macc game but are any of them going to be available for the Torquay and Solihull games?

Well, seeing as Anders is on his way home will have a stab at a match report. Yes, the first half was dire. Misplaced passes, saved three times by the woodwork, Akintunde up front on his own and long balls being lumped into the channels. It was like a training attack vs defence game and Shots looked pretty slick. Really should have been two or three. Can't remember a shot for us. James and Turnbull looked well off the pace. Half time Akintunde and Davies off and Chappel and Joyce on, which didn't exactly fill the away terrace with joy. More of the same for the first fifteen minutes, then Mahon gets in the box and cuts inside and has his leg clipped. Very soft but a clear pen, totally against the run of play. Dawson, who by now is playing up front, slotted it superbly. Expected it to be backs to the wall but we got a grip on midfield and started passing the ball a lot better. There were some very good performnaces in the second half...the keeper was excellent all game, coming for crosses and pulling off a couple of good saves, NRT was impressive at left back. James and Turrnbull got better and better and we were looking threatening. Ten minutes to go and Chappel, who also played well, broke forward on the right and chipped the Shots keeper. Ball comes back off the bar and wasn't really cleared. Think it was Chappel again who found James on the left an he slmmed it in. Was convinced it was going to be off side but no ...cue pandemonium as we all go mental. Looked reasonably comfortable after that ...the sting had gone out of Shots and they ran out of ideas. Their players and fans started getting wound up - always sweet at Shots as also remember getting relegated there. Great scenes at the end when the players came over. 120 Blues including four Scottish squaddies who are based in Aldershot and like to go in the away end - they left at half time. Saw them in the pub later and they couldn't believe we'd turned it round. Same goes for most of us I suspect. Ultimate game of two halves - looked like a decent team in the second half but can't afford to start games like that. Not sure where that leaves Macca - tactical genius who always knew it would turn out right, or just a blip? Who knows. Don't care for now. Will just savour the win. MOTM Dawson...put in a great shift up front, held the ball up superbly. Clinical penalty.

AGL spot on with his summary, we soaked all Aldershot could give and in the 25 degree temperature they were spent by the second half. I have to say Macca employed the only tactics that could possibly deliver a victory today. Credit where it's due.

2-1 us - 3 penalties, 2 red cards, substitute referee and 2017 in attendance. Close enough.

Didn't go, but read the Chronicle report, along with reports from those who attended. I am somewhat surprised by a statement that McCarthy employed the only tactics that could have delivered a victory today. Unless the woodwork is on the payroll and it was woodwork's excellent tactical play then quite clearly we were outplayed convincingly for an hour. I'm all for luck when it goes my way but surely being dependent on luck is not a strategy. AGL also said they could easily have been three up by half time. This doesn't equate to tactically soaking up the pressure as if all part of a master plan. Almost a mirror image of last week with a strong showing after an hour when luck had kept us in the game. We don't even know if the strong showing was a managerial tactic or a mini player rebellion. Well done the players certainly. if you're happy to grab good luck as good tactics then that's fine, for you. Not for me. I remain of the opinion that we have a poor manager who is only still in post because of a knee jerk decision made by the board last January.

Mahon was MOTM for me, won the penalty, ran tirelessly and caused them enormous problems down the left wing in the second half.

I remain of the opinion that we have a poor manager who is only still in post because of a knee jerk decision made by the board last January. Regardless of the luck, we would have been torn apart had we come out attacking in the first half, their blonde curly haired left winger would have exposed the gaps mercilessly. Mitchell didn't have many saves to make, despite them hitting the woodwork three times. We hit the woodwork too. A draw would have been a fair and respectable result. We have lost one in five, that doesn't justify sacking the manager. I didn't care how negative the play was when I walked away with a grin on my face and three points. Macca is being judged on a bad end of season when he had clearly lost the dressing room. This group of players are playing for him. Whilst that continues and we are picking up enough points to take us towards a mid table finish, I will be happy. Way too early in the season to judge, but after today, I can see the wins coming.

RCB I think you do the players a disservice by rubbishing the performance as good luck. Yes, we rode our luck and they could have been out of sight at half time but you could see the self belief soaring after we got the break with the penalty. Sometimes you need that. Havs a look at the Shots forum - recognition on there that we did a good job on them in the second half and got our tactics right. They haven't lost at home for something like 17 games. I was there and believe me we were a LOT better in the second half.

We've shown in patches this season that we have a decent side, which has got to give us real optimism moving forwards. What needs to be resolved is why we are so diabolical for large chunks of games, yet can suddenly turn into a half decent side. What causes that complete shift? We've seen it in the second half against Sutton and then the same again today. Is it JM or is it the players taking matters into their own hands? Whatever, it needs to be sustained into future performances and shown over longer periods in games. If we can do that, then there is hope for a half decent finish. We have rode our luck massively today, but it's a great 3 points.

Credit where it is due. That's a superb win that even the most optimistic of us probably wouldn't have thought possible. It's bought the manager some more time. Personally, I had slipped down the hill towards wanting him out but this has brought me back up. I don't go away though and home form is mine and the club's bread and butter and this must be turned around before we all have a love in about him. Over to you Jon and all eyes on Monday.

That's the bottom line. Much as I enjoyed the win today it's the home form that really matters. Lose or even draw on Monday and we are back to square one. We need a rethink about how we approach home games. It's obvious we wil nick a few wins away from home when the pressure is off. If the team had turned in that first half performance at home I shudder to think of the abuse they and McCarthy would have got - deservedly so.

At no time did I criticise the players. I suspect many are dissatisfied with the first half tactics imposed on them, which is why I made the inference that the final half hour may be their preferred tactics once their shackles are off. My opinion is based on over four months of play, and one which has continued this season in the same vein. I wholeheartedly agree that the team played a LOT better in the second half, exactly as they did against Sutton. Total credit to them. On a better day we may well have taken six points from the last two games. I don't make opinions based on a couple of isolated good half hours of play.

Bet they are sat at home warming up their voices ready to verbally abuse him and boo their own team at 3.05pm. Sad individuals

The team are showing they can tough it out as the game progresses. Four goals put past top six sides in second half of last two games. So yeah get on their backs for every mistake, like you think you're watching Real Madrid. Blue for life, more like get a life
