I think it's a fair interview. He cannot come out and say 'We're giving him 3 games," as that helps no one.
What I take from it is that the board will not sit by and continue waiting. It sounds to me that he needs results and quickly.

Have listened to the interview and it was very measured and identified what this business is all about - results. Firmly believe that the correct decisions will be made for the good of the club. I took it that the next few games will Determine JM's future. Although we are all managers when it comes to "sack him" we have to look at this objectively. The team and home results were with last seasons squad and manager, this year we have a new squad but same manager, there is a common link. If he wasn't to be sacked at the end of last season then the next 3 games are all that should be given to prove his worth.

From this interview it seems that matters are being considered solely on the basis of this seasons results thus far. The fact that we were woeful from January to the end of the season has been brushed aside. That isn't acceptable imo. Ok new season clean slate etc given people a chance. If we was to get six points from the next two games we wouldn't be that badly placed. From the interview you can't see a trigger being pulled anytime soon. A 'clean slate' is not realistic. Any manager will always have their previous record brought into the equation, and rightly so. It works the other way too. Even though Leicester had a poor season last year and could have been relegated, it wasn't fair for them to sack Ranieri after what he achieved there the season before. Similarly, we didn't show Neil Young the patience he deserved after leading us to three titles in a row. The second half of last season was such that I feel we do need to see clear, immediate signs that it's behind us and the manager has learned from it, and we're simply not seeing that. It's not a poor run of form any more, it's a bad record sustained over a considerable period of time.

What do you expect MM to say? He is hardly going to come out and say JMc is useless and unless he wins the next four home games he goes.
He says 'we' because he wants to put over the view that everyone is pulling together. He's supporting his colleagues.
MM's job would be a lot easier if the team was winning. He could sell the club easier to sponsors and the public, bringing in more money to increase the playing budget. He did this well over the summer when the feel good factor was there. Unfortunately the reality of the season affects that.
The future of the Manager will be made by the Board members we elected. Not the person employed to run the club on a day to day basis, on our behalf.

The interview gave me all I needed to know. Time and time again, when referring to the board, Maguire used the words "we" and "us". I'm told he is not on the board, but the interview makes it clear to me that he is in total control of the board, he thinks he is the board, and the board do what he wants. In my opinion the McCarthy contract was all his doing and if McCarthy is sacked it would reflect badly on Maguire. I have absolutely no faith in either of the M's and can see nothing other than relegation unless there is a strong act of mutiny by the players. I await the wrath of the M&M lovers once again. Exactly my suspicions for a while. We have a weak board and this guy basically runs the show. If we are a fan owned club, why are we being governed by this employee?

Come on Mark, this has to end, surely? I hate to say it, but I'm almost dreading the fact that we might actually scrape 4-6 points from these two upcoming away games against weakish sides, thus delaying the inevitable even further. Long term, it might actually be for the best if we lose them. I'd never hope for us to lose - my hope is that we pick up points at Torquay and Solihull, then Macca suddenly turns round the home form and we all look back and laugh at how we were all calling for his head. My fear is that he'll just be buying himself more time before the inevitable, and it's back to the usual home dross against Ebbsfleet. I agree, wins in the next two matches are just papering over the cracks. Mark my words, with McCarthy in charge we will be relegated.

Whilst you may well be right Richard , in the real world the clear impression given is that Mr Maguire does seem to be running the show. I would also like to know if it was MMs professional recommendation to the board that McCarthy’s contract should be extended . As regards the poor form at home since last December , I don’t recall any public statements made by the board or the current chairman (whoever that is) to the wider fan base, and MM (an unelected employee) now seems by default the official Club Mouthpiece.

Fair enough Trev, that's your opinion. I can only say it as I find it. It's not unusual for a CEO to make statements on behalf of his employers though. He is the senior operational employee and will consult with board members prior to making public statements. I'm not saying that statements should be solely down to him though.

I don't think you mean an occurrence of menstruation, so perhaps you just feel like attempting a superior power statement. How are you so sure the board are not allowing Maguire to rule the roost? Other than a circumstance not made public to the fans(in this case the owners), any other manager at any other club would be long gone. Let's have a direct statement of denial from any of the board members to deny Maguire's real power. Let me guess, isn't it about now that you come out with the famous bit about "if you think you can do better why don't you stand for election?" Stick with it though, and I hope you enjoy the National North.

Myself, Jon McCarthy, the backroom staff and the players, everybody knows the importance of results. We are not blindly carrying on in a giddy fashion backing the manager because we think he’s great, which we do, he is a fantastic individual. We are not blindly carrying on because he has a contract which prevents us doing anything about his position. We are a strong board with a strong group of people. It is on the basis of that that we are carrying on the way that we are.
“We have a belief that there is something about to click.”
Amazing quote from Mark McGuire, we have a belief that there is something about to click. On what basis has he come to such a conclusion?! And the backing the manager as we think he's a fantastic individual, what has that got to do with the important matter of picking up 3 points at home and entertaining the paying public! Am staggered by those 2 quotes.

I'll admit I commented without watching the video. I now have done and I think he comes across pretty well as he usually does, although I don't think we've helped ourselves by labelling it a "straight talking interview" when it's actually a bit rambly and repetitive in parts!
The basic problem is that I just don't agree with him, and I think most of us don't. I don't see signs of anything "clicking". But it is communication at least, which is what we've been lacking in recent times.

In my dealings with Mark as a volunteer, he has never remotely come across as someone who seeks power. Quite the opposite in fact, he has a genuine passion for our model and is both supportive and respectful of the directors of the club.

Am staggered by those 2 quotes. I can only believe that he's hanging onto McCarthy's spin as well as the assumption, based on recruitment in the summer, that these players will come good under this manager. We all know that this situation is just a drawn out story that will eventually reach its inevitable conclusion. Let's just hope that there is some kind of imminent target that JM has been set. If he meets it, then at least we will have points on the board, if he doesn't then he goes. There's not a chance that he will reach the overall target of 51 points come April, although I would have liked to have thought that target, when discussed in June/July, would have been a lot higher. There's a bit of saving face going on here as well. The board offered JM a two and a half year contract in January, they were never then going to kick him out in April or six games into the new season. It would leave them looking very silly, particularly with an election coming up, where many will be hoping to be re-elected.

I take your point , but I was under the impression that one of the reasons for appointing a CEO, was to free up the chairman from time consuming day to day matters, and enable him/her to act as the figure head of the club and improve communication between the Board and the fans. Whilst it is entirely appropriate for the Clubs CEO to talk about operational matters such as ticket sales or the website etc , surely it would be far better for elected board members /chairman to step up to the plate at this difficult time and explain their position directly to the fanbase, rather than leave this to MM ?

Long and short of it, MM knows F.All about why the squad can't win at home. But makes apologies for everyone... Pointless interview. Get rid of both I have to agree if he cannot understand that football is a results based business and McCarthy has completely lost the plot then he can go too.

We've been waiting over 8 months for "Something to click". There is no chance under McCarthy that this abysmal run of form will end. McCarthy knows this but is digging his heels in until he gets offered a severance payment.
The board really need show some mettle and bring M and M to account for what's happening at the club at the moment. The club is already staring at the barrel of relegation in August.

I'll back Richard up on his comments in this thread. MM is employed by the Board to run the day to day business of the club. Don't shout Richard down because you'd rather believe something different. We're are all frustrated by the on the field results, and afraid of the consequences.
MM has come out and made this statement, presumably after contact with the Board, as a reponse to the final whistle reaction from the crowd. Yes, maybe the Chairman should make a statement, but maybe MM is more eloquent and comfortable doing it. Maybe he was asked to.
The CEO (MM) should publicly support JMc. Anything else would be poor, and could lead us to a possible constructive dismissal case. The fact that we've now had this interview shows the club is aware of the supporters feelings.
The Board are supporters too. You would expect at least some of them to agree with our views. The next CFU meeting is on October 5th. Unless results and performances change on the pitch you'd expect something to happen before that. If not, it would be an interesting meeting!

Unbelievable. I'm watching the club I've supported for 55 years have it's heart ripped out by the failures of a silent board, and Richard tells me to calm down. It's like an Enid Blyton story, only this isn't fiction.
"The Secret Seven"
"The Secret Seven Society consists of Peter, his sister Janet, and their friends Jack, Colin, George, Pam and Barbara. Although not an official member of the Secret Seven, Peter and Janet's golden spaniel Scamper also attends meetings. After all, he can be trusted not to give away any secrets to Jack's interfering sister Susie!"
Are you really Scamper Richard? Why do I feel totally in the dark and of no importance to this club? It's like there is an secret agenda going on here, and only the board and the puppet master are in on the secret. The rest of us may as well be called Susie!

I am concerned that board members, including the Chairman have not felt fit to communicate to the fan base directly in respect of its position at this time . Instead leaving MM, suspected by some as being instrumental in McCarthy’s contract extension, to publically defend the manager’s position which many consider to be indefensible. This is all rather disappointing given that this is a fans run club with an elected Board.

This season's a clean slate? ok then I want a £324 refund from last season.
Would the current Board be so much up McCarthy's arse if they abandoned their Suits, Club Ties, Agendas and Visitor passes and reverted back to a paying fan?

It sounds to me that he needs results and quickly. Absolutely agree. Glad to see some reason expressed between the hysterics. A very sensible and measured interview. The club have invested a lot in McCarthy, this squad and the ethos behind it and are both shocked and disappointed that results have not improved after last season. I would not have expected our CEO to have said anymore, but it is clear that they are considering the consequence of having to part with McCarthy if results don't improve. That will be a big decision to take. I think it inevitable though that it will be taken which will be very sad. I think that the club have got a lot right since last season, but the continuous poor home record has become unacceptable and we are talking just a few more games before the decision is taken to part with his services. In my view, even if we win our next two away games at Torquay and Solihull failure to beat Ebbsfleet will mean the Gateshead and Dover away games will be his last. For him to survive the expected defeats at Dover and Gateshead will mean winning the next three. I think the board are strong enough to do what is needed at this stage. They will always lag the opinion of the fans in this regard and quite rightly to; we are a fickle lot. It is a results business and in 5 games time those results are unlikely to have changed sufficiently to save him.
