All these protests, yet only 3 people stood for election. Only got ourselves to blame. I take it those protesting his application to the board will be writing all this down and sending it into the CFU board? Or will you just rant on here and then, as I expect, do nothing else? Because we’re not applying to join the board means we can’t protest against a known bully bent copper? Turn it in Where did I say that? You can protest it all you want, like someone else has said if enough members don't vote for him or don't raise their hands at the meeting in favor of his election then he doesn't get elected. If him not getting on the board means that much to x amount of supporters and CFU members then I suppose we can expect crisis meeting levels of numbers down the Blues bar.. or maybe not

I've never met the man. I vaguely remember his name from the late 90s. That's about it. Guessing some of those protesting were less than well behaved on occasion back in the day?? Al, you need to do a bit more home work on the man before making comments like that. Forget personal opinions of his stint as Liasion officer. Forget the rumours of his handiness to let his hands go back in the day. Concentrate more on his factual stint working for the club on sabbatical under Mark Gutterman. A man who led the club to the brink of bankruptcy during this time.

If there are 3 position vacant for the board, regardless of how many votes they get, all 3 will get in. Stop moaning, it's your own fault, for months lots of poeple on here have been shouting their mouths off about what needs to be done, but when push comes to shove these are the only 3 people who stood up. In order to get proper democratic choice then there must be a number of people to choose from. You may not like him but you almost certainly going to get him, live with it !

This man also lied in court. He’s not really got age on his side either. Many people know mr Evans as a bully boy scumbag. Some people might forget the past but we don’t. Also remember him being up Terry Smiths arse. Don’t let this evil man ruin our club.

So because I don't have enough spare time to volounteer myself I should put up and shut up? The man is a bully and a coward.
People on here forgetting that without fans we don't have a club, and plenty will stop going for any duration he is involved with the ongoings. It's as simple as that.

So say all 3 get on the board there's still 2 empty roles? Evans doesn't get in and it's 3. What happens then? We operate with 2/3 missing directors?

People would stop going, seriously?
I get that you don't like him, I don't know much about him other than him being pretty unpopular with a sizeable section of fans so I'm not thrilled with the prospect of him being on the board myself, but you would let a beef with one director stop you attending matches?
Jonny Hughes ended up stepping down as chairman after a CFU member sought names to support an EGM to remove him from his position. I would suggest anyone who feels strongly enough about Paul Evans becoming a director should consider doing something similar rather than withdraw their support.

I don't know how many spaces there on the board but if it is 3 then they will all get in. If it is 2, then the 2 with the highest votes will get in. If it is more then 3 then they will all get in and the empty spaces will stay empty or the board will try and co-opt people onto the board.

Too young to know Mr Evans but if he's such an unlikable character then it's certainly understandable it wouldn't sit right with some (or judging by this thread many) to have him in control of our club.
This is where the power of the fans can really shine through, I'll say that. Something fans of clubs across the world could only dream of; directly effecting who runs the club.

I've supported every other board member. Been 1000% behind Calvin when others were taking the words of people looking to take a wage out of the club. This goes a lot further than not liking the man on a personal level. This man has a stench attached to him. Ive no idea what the answer is to the problem of getting people to sign up to the board, but after last years events I think we all agree they have to be the right people and the right fit for the club and its principles. Paul Evans is neither.

If it is more then 3 then they will all get in and the empty spaces will stay empty or the board will try and co-opt people onto the board. From today's CFU AGM email - "As the number of candidates does not equal or exceed the available places, there will be no election but an affirmative ballot at the AGM. Each candidate will be put before the meeting for the approval of members. To be elected each candidate must receive the support of more than half those present in person at the AGM and those who are not able to attend and have expressed their preference by returning the proxy form."

Just for clarity - there are five spaces on the board at the moment. Jeff Banks and Calvin Hughes were co-opted so both must stand again. Laurence Kirby's term is ending and he has evidently chosen not to stand again. Then there are two spaces which have been vacant since Simon Ollerenshaw and Mark Howell both stepped down. The board is ideally supposed to be made up of 10 directors but has been operating with 8 since those resignations.
For an election to take place there has to be more candidates than there are positions. As there are 5 positions and only 3 candidates, then an affirmative vote will be held at the AGM in which the candidates simply require 50% or more of those present to vote in favour of their appointment.
The board will still be short by 2, even if all 3 of the candidates are appointed. Worth noting though that the board continues to have the power to co-opt directors should they see fit. I guess they were probably waiting for this election in the hope there would be more than enough candidates to fill the positions but I would have thought they might be looking at co-opting one or two with relevant skills now.
It might be worth people thinking about - particularly if anyone has accounting or finance skills given that Laurence is stepping down and the finance director / CFU treasurer constitutionally has to be a director. As far as I'm aware, none of the current board will be able to adequately fill that position come October so I'd encourage any people with finance skills to consider approaching the board and discussing co-option.

I'll be honest my only knowledge of PC Evans is, similar to Lobster, through the usual grapevine on the terraces, both home and away, in the '00's. I know his face and saw him on the job at matches but didn't ever see him do anything untoward, although the "famous PC Evans" references amongst the fanbase created some sort of caricature.
When it comes down to it, if only three people have applied to fill five vacant positions then I suspect all three will be voted on to the board. I am unaware of any voting criteria (e.g. percentage of the membership etc) that would negate that but I am sure somebody will enlighten us as to the constitution. I am certainly not suggesting people do not have a right to be angered but it is true to say that had there been a healthier number of applicants to fill the five vacant positions then we would all have a more democratic choice. Alas, only three people could be bothered to put their names forward so fair play to them for wanting to help.
EDIT: Just seen DMcNally's quote above - so I guess we still have a level of democracy even though the number of applicants is less than vacancies. The question you have to ask yourself is "is having one less board member, thus stretching the already stretched resources and time of our board, better than that particular candidate being elected?"

There is a proxy vote form if you can’t attend the meeting, as these candidates need to be ratified. You can vote against someone getting onto the board through these means too. cityfansunited.com/docs/2018-CFU-proxy-form.pdfThe constitution states that “any candidate not receiving the support of more than half of those present in person and by proxy shall be deemed to have not been elected” where an affirmative ballot is used.

Again. 7 months ago we were on the verge of bankruptcy and people threw themselves forward to help the club via Co option or volunteering on the working groups.
How the actual fuck can we go from that to an AGM where only one new person has put themselves forward for the board?
Say there are two places free for board members to be Co opted. How many of you will apply to be Co opted instead?

Evans would surely know he is not well thought of amongst a large section of fans but still wants to stand.....lets face it the man is power crazy and this is his chance to gain some authority again. I hope he reconsiders.

Paul Evans (if you are reading this) do the honourable and decent task and withdraw your application that you have submitted to Chester FC. Your dad Dennis was a solid supporter of the club, a fine upstanding man with very strong beliefs and a staunch union worker. If he knew that you were disrupting the fan base in such a way, he would turn in his grave and he would tell you to withdraw your application. I’ve known of Paul Evans for probably 45 years and fully realise that unfortunately ‘you can’t polish a turd’.

A lot of which is rumour btw. But there are more than enough facts to know that this would end in tears. It’s sad really because a man with his knowledge of the authorities could have proven invaluable to the club. But the truth is when he was in authority he definitely abused that position.

If Evans gets in I can tell you now a lot of loyal supporters will never enter the Deva again. Bully and one horrible man. I’ll rip my season ticket in half and my two sons if he gets in. Peoples memory’s must be short, in the 90s he booted a lad no older than 12 in the face at an away game. If you really have to rip your season ticket in half, then fair enough, but ripping your two sons in half is a bit extreme....
