If Evans gets in I can tell you now a lot of loyal supporters will never enter the Deva again. Bully and one horrible man. I’ll rip my season ticket in half and my two sons if he gets in. Peoples memory’s must be short, in the 90s he booted a lad no older than 12 in the face at an away game. If you really have to rip your season ticket in half, then fair enough, but ripping your two sons in half is a bit extreme.... A good example of the importance of the possessive apostrophe there. Yes, I’m very popular at parties.

I've been a supporter of this club longer than most on here but must say I wouldn't know Paul Evans if I fell over him so can't really comment. I would say though that unless you can back it up as fact, your claim that he was a 'bent copper' could lead to you being sued for libel. Yeah, I witnessed him lie in a court room. How come you were in court?

Yeah, I witnessed him lie in a court room. How come you were in court? Doesn’t matter, was 14 years ago. I’m not the one trying to get on the board before you try that one. Billy, myself and several other people witnessed it.

I notice at the bottom of his Agenda he's not even going to be attending the AGM due to a prior funeral arrangement. Does he perhaps have an inkling of what might happen if he does?

I know the Evans family quite well. I worked with Denis. I remember travelling on the train to Brighton for our 6-0 defeat with Denis (late father) also known as "educated Evans", Paul and Jim, so they were both little lads then. Jim is still a regular at matches. I know that Paul Evans was a policeman and became as stated on here the liaison officer. I don't know if any of the "allegations" about his personal character are true, but he did seem a bit of a bully as some coppers are. Back in those days I used to just go to matches, watch us get beat and go home. Never really did more than that or get involved in any "club politics". I guess he must have left the police force now as he must be well under 60.

My recollection of the libel laws from college days is very hazy, but I'd suggest someone needs to clean this thread up. It's not just the individual making the comments that can be held to account but the forum organisers themselves as I recall. Seem to remember the Brighton fanzine Gulls Eye was taken to court for something similar back in the day. I'd suggest this is not the place for character assassination - irrespective of what ever grievances people have it doesn't sit well. If you don't like the guy, go down the proper route. The beauty of the way the club is run is that you can actually do something about it rather than just spewing bile from a keyboard.

Happy to see the “Special Reserve” as they call it back to £95,000. I did raise the issue a few months back that £100,000 isn’t enough for a contingency fund, as it was untouched at the start of January and almost gone by the end of the month. The figure I suggested was £250,000 for a business of our size. Interested to know if this was part of any recommendation from richard’s review. The free reserve of £100k is more than enough for a business of our size, but NOT in the industry of football. We should be aiming for at least double, while at the same time ensuring were competitive enough to challenge in every match and ensuring the fan base goes up, not down. It’s important that we don’t forget shouting growth here, not just how much “cash” we have. Realistically we should be aiming for 10% growth in my eyes this season, especially with the extra donation from Murphy. Another Loss wouldn’t be acceptable, that’s for sure.

Again. 7 months ago we were on the verge of bankruptcy and people threw themselves forward to help the club via Co option or volunteering on the working groups. How the actual fuck can we go from that to an AGM where only one new person has put themselves forward for the board? Say there are two places free for board members to be Co opted. How many of you will apply to be Co opted instead? Agreed. I’d love to get involved in some capacity with the club, but just not this. Did put myself forward for treasurer as some people will know, being an accountant, but distance proves an issue which I totally respected of course.

YES BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU POST ON THIS THREAD AS YOU COULD BE SUED FOR LIBEL IF YOUR FACTS ARE NOT CORRECT. Probably like many CFU I know nothing about the man who is causing so much unease. Had I not seen all these posts I would have endorsed his nomination and the only way he would not be elected is if more than 50% either at the meeting or voting by proxy vote against his desire to serve on the Board. So we as CFU members have the power to elect or reject this candidate. it is important that the Board is united and can work effectively as a group....from what has been posted this man’s election could cause disruption and lack of harmony on the Board. As members of the CFU we have the democratic power to decide.

So say the members vote not to have him on the board. Won't we then be below the minimum number required on the board?
If that happens who is going to step forward onto the board in his place??
I asked the question before of who amongst us will stand instead but so far nobody has raised their hand!!

It’s very straightforward....one candidate is rejected, two are elected and 2 vacancies exist. Can be filled by cooption or left vacant

Why would he put himself forward ? He must know how deeply unpopular he would be, loathed in certain quarters. How does he plan to engage with a fan base where a significant minority despise him ? Why would you put yourself in that position ?

What’s to stop my 96 year old granny putting her hand up and having a bash? We can’t just say if they’ve got a pulse they’re in. I don’t blame people for not having a go. Some of the stick some have taken has been well over the top and completely unjustified. But there’s a genuine feeling that Paul is just playing games. As he used to do when he was LO. Following people around Morrison’s when not on duty. Very strange character. Is that libellous?

I think it says more about ourselves as a membership that only one new person has come forward at the AGM. Had enough supporters taken that step seeking election onto the board then it wouldn't be an issue. Simply vote for those you felt were the best choice. However the membership have gone straight back into full of apathy and here we are yet again. Moan about the candidate all you want, he's the only fucker amongst all of us who has stuck his hand up

The car crash that is Chester these days keeps on going. I dread to log on to see what the next PR disaster is. Well I hope you are not insinuating the PR disaster as you describe it is of the club's making? As a former member of the election management group, I can confirm that anyone who satisfies the criteria of CFU membership can rightfully apply to represent the membership on the board of directors. The CFU Board has no right to deny such an application if it is legitimate and satisfies the criteria. This is a democratic process that is at the foundation of our core principles. It's simple to understand. If you approve of a candidate, you can vote for them, if not, then don't. Also, the club cannot and will not be able to make any comment on this matter. The process is that none of the directors will have known about who had put themselves forward until the membership had been advised.

I much prefer fan ownership but I don’t want Paul Evans anywhere near the board. As Al says nobody wants to do it(or not enough do) so we end up with my 96 year old gran and a barn bot who went on holidays with a bloke who took us into administration.

Let's get one thing clear. I'm not advocating a shift to private ownership. I will never advocate that.
I do think that we need more volunteers involved at the club and especially on the working groups if we find ourselves low on directors. The working groups take the brunt of the workload which would otherwise prove impossible for just one person.
I would encourage anyone with a couple of hours spare per week to email the club and ask to get involved because it is very rewarding and I have learnt an awful lot from my experience

The Board would be very ill advised to co-opt any prospective board member who had been rejected by the CFU membership.

I do think that we need more volunteers involved at the club and especially on the working groups if we find ourselves low on directors. The working groups take the brunt of the workload which would otherwise prove impossible for just one person. I will gladly go back onto Commercial but first I need to concentrate on my Mrs and kids after she unexpectedly lost her dad a few weeks ago. I would encourage anyone with a couple of hours spare per week to email the club and ask to get involved because it is very rewarding and I have learnt an awful lot from my experience All, firstly sorry to hear of your loss. Family must come first. I completely agree that we need more volunteers. If there has been one harsh lesson in the last season or two, it's that each director needs help and a lot of help or they will fail. It's really hard work but as you mention, it is rewarding. I have been volunteering since we reformed and whilst I am humbled by our fantastic volunteers, the fact is that there are not enough. I'm personally not surprised that there are only three candidates putting themselves forward for election to the board. It can be thankless, very time consuming and a big responsibility.
