Right decision, now lets see how the players react on Saturday.
My only worry if Shaw is picking team is that he won't select himself when we clearly need him on the pitch.

I would like to add my tribute to McCarthy for his commitment to the club and for his work in the Community. As most have said, he is genuinely a decent bloke and it would have been nice to be able to offer him an alternative role better suited to his talents.
However as a manager of a footbal team, it is results on the pitch that is paramount, and in this respect he was totally clueless. Harsh maybe, but that's professional football and 99% of managers eventually get the sack, most of whom will have better records than McCarthy.

Yes. The guy has lost his job and the football and tactics weren't good enough, but some people on here really do need to show some dignity.

No I won't. He was incompetent and should have gone at the end of last season. Correct. Should have gone with Burr. Ridiculous cheapskate decision to appoint him to start with. With only the closed shop mentality of DC1 I was unable to voice my opinion at the time, before anyone asks why I didn't say so at the time. However, his situation has become unnecessarily personal and offensive due to the stubborn refusal of the board to recognise the error of his employment, and the happy claptrap continued support of his diminishing band of self righteous fans. All they have achieved, in their quest to keep him, is to allow him time to devalue his status to the point of becoming a laughing stock. I'm looking forward to reading the terms of his dismissal, subject of course to no more secrecy. To those who blindly supported his continued employment, please feel free to wear a bright yellow hat on Saturday so we can all see you.

8 games too late in my book, he should have gone in the summer. Most of the budget will be used up by now. The new manager will have to work with the threadbare squad mclueless has assembled.

"it is always sad for all concerned when the time comes for a parting of the ways" What utter nonsense. Why is it sad to see the idiot leave Chester F C ? While it isn't sad for us. It is sad when any individual loses their job. If you're ever unfortunate enough to lose your job, you'll realise.

"it is always sad for all concerned when the time comes for a parting of the ways" What utter nonsense. Why is it sad to see the idiot leave Chester F C ? I did not say it is sad to see him go, but I was suggesting that he deserves some consideration because he is a human being, and because like most of us he has a family too. It is also sad it has not worked out as there is and will be a cost to the club in all of this too. As others have said here, we may agree that the time is right to make a change but it does not mean we cannot react with some dignity and consideration for Jon as well.

Correct decision, and I believe it was right for the board to give him a chance with the new squad. The win at Aldershot only papered over the cracks, it became apparent in the following three games that it wasn’t going to change.

The only decision that could be made. The club have been patient and the past three performances have shown that there was never going to be an upturn in form. I just hope everyone who cares about the club gets down to the Deva and supports the club. It's likely the sacking will cost the club £50k so much needed revenue is required. The vast majority got what they wanted and now it's time to galvanise on Saturday. More than that I would have thought 21 months left on his contract, unless they've negotiated a reduced severance.

For all who now think the season will be uphill plain sailing, think again. I wish JM all the best, he really did have to get the boot after last night, it was truly woeful. However, whoever comes in still has a real job on their hands to sort out this mess. We have some good players, but we do have some crap as well let's be honest. It's a big job for the new man in charge, whoever that may be.

Right decision, long overdue
Words like "hate" have been bandied around at him in the last few days. Personally, I think words and terms like that are horrible and smack of an aggressiveness and nastiness I don't "hate" JM, I don't "dislike" JM. He was simply a man clearly out of his depth in a job he was not suited for. I wish him well in whatever direction his career takes him. We've taken the first step in rectifying the malaise that's gripped the club. Let's start looking forward to a new and hopefully better era.

The only decision the club could make really. This week has been a real low. Four points had to be a realistic target and we just about scraped one. The interviews were getting stranger by the day. Little to no training last week. It was all building up in to an unworkable situation. Personally, in the times I spoke to JM I found him a thoroughly decent man but football management is not for everybody. You have to know when to rail road players and went to put the arm around them and it all felt too cosey for the players. We've also had a small squad but how on earth do we end up with the injuries that we have? JM said it was down to a lack of medical support but according to club reports there were five or six medical and fitness support, although granted they were voluntary for the most part. Anyway, good luck Jon. It just didn't work out. It's time to look to the future. It's not going to be plain or easy sailing but I'd just like to see somebody come in and say things how they are, opposed to somebody trying to be clever and speaking in riddles. Over to the board!

Good news all round, it was a matter of time.
Hopefully we as fans can now unite once more, stop bickering and get behind the team. I just hope the club look forwards and dont go for the same old same old aka Graham Barrow.
My preference is Dean Saunders. I know he was at Wrexscum but he did a good job before moving up. He knows the league, can work to a budget and strong links with eth welsh nationalside. I think he'd take it.

I have been a patient Macca supporter since he was appointed after Burr. I could be accused of being a "happy clapper" if that is a euphemism for being an optimistic Chester fan. Having said that I reluctantly agree that the 2017 results over the calendar year have led to this inevitable outcome. Not sure what Macca will do in the future - maybe more suited to coaching than management. Good luck to the guy though. He always, imo, had the best interests of Chester at heart. As for who's next. I would go for a short term, very experienced, figure who could teach Tom Shaw a bit and kick this team into some action 'cause they have the ability. Graham Barrow until the end of the season.

I'd suggest it's actually probably less than that. The fact that the club have 'terminated the contract with immediate effect' is a strong indication that there would have been a get out clause/early termination clause in his contract. No way a compensation or severance deal would have been agreed so quickly.

That's as good as an admission from you that I was right all along. Now, I would never be smug in the fact that we are probably 8 points short of where we could have been, and about £50k (hopefully less) down as a result of keeping McCarthy this long. Must admit a certain smug grin thinking of you though. Doubt they make hats in your size anyway. All the best for the rest of the season anyway.

Surely if we pay him for the next two years we can prevent him from taking alternative employment, i.e. Gardening leave. I wait to hear from the club in regard to the severance deal. If we have to wait for the accounts then so be it.

With respect, this comment is some really childish crap. At the end of the day he's gone based on results. 90% of us wanted him gone according to the DC Poll on here, myself included. Let's leave it at that rather than personal insults between two Chester fans. It's really childish from what are presumably grown men.

I'm sure the severance package will rightly be private and personal, as was Steve Burr's. You may be able to deduce something from the accounts but I doubt it will be itemised.
