With respect, this comment is some really childish crap. At the end of the day he's gone based on results. 90% of us wanted him gone according to the DC Poll on here, myself included. Let's leave it at that rather than personal insults between two Chester fans. It's really childish from what are presumably grown men. I must be childish then, I found that line amusing. Getting personal behind a keyboard is really just dim witted. Richard does a lot for the club, regardless if his views match your own, personal insults are really pathetic IMO.

I'm sure the severance package will rightly be private and personal, as was Steve Burr's. You may be able to deduce something from the accounts but I doubt it will be itemised. According to the seniors blues top dog NFBF on the old deva chat, we are still paying off Steve burr!

About time! This is a welcome boost ahead of Saturday. Will boost the attendance & we can start again. As for who I want next? Marcos Bignot would be my number 1 choice. Graham Barrow would be fantastic too but just can't see that happening. Mock me as you will, but I don't think Kevin Wilkin would be a bad choice. Forget his past with Wrexham. The job he did at Nuneaton was one reason why I'd like him here. Got them promoted and then did a sterling job with them in the National League before Wrexham came sniffing. Doing a decent job currently with Brackley too.

I hope we are not small minded enough to dismiss him solely on the basis he managed Wrexham. The only problem is whether we would have to pay compensation to Brackley.

Good news all round, it was a matter of time. Hopefully we as fans can now unite once more, stop bickering and get behind the team. I just hope the club look forwards and dont go for the same old same old aka Graham Barrow. My preference is Dean Saunders. I know he was at Wrexscum but he did a good job before moving up. He knows the league, can work to a budget and strong links with eth welsh nationalside. I think he'd take it. He's working for TalkSport, I don't think he'd want it even if we wanted him. If you don't ask you don't get. Could be a coup for us big name cant see many offers on the table for him. Good for both parties

Should have been done at the end of last season, as some have said. The whole thing might have been more amicable that way, whereas it's got a bit nasty and ugly in these last few weeks. It also means we're playing catch-up and the new manager will be pretty much stuck with the squad he's inherited.
However, it's not too late and well done to the board for making the decision. I'd rather we came across as a patient and fair club than a trigger-happy one. The new incumbent will have a big job on his hands but this is a chance for a new era now, and it's daunting but also quite exciting.
Would also like to place my thanks to Jon on record. I do believe he put everything he had into the role, and although his interviews were getting worse my the week, I don't believe he was 'deluded' as some say, but just desperate to put a positive slant on a dire situation. Probably not the right tactic, but that's something he may learn and perhaps he'll come back stronger from the whole experience.

JM couldn't stop the rot and in his desperation to do so, he made foolish and ill-advised moves.
Just like Burr, I hold no malice towards him and I hope he fixes himself up. He was out of his depth and it showed in many aspects, so it's undoubtedly the correct decision from the board.
Our next appointment is huge, we've no room for error.

All the best to Jon. A man with genuine passion for the club and a great servant to the community trust. Best of luck to you. Couldn't have said it better myself.

It is a very sad outcome for Macca and the club.
I had hoped the summer signings would make a difference. They haven't.
8 games a fair opportunity for him to show that he could change the direction of the club, but it was not to be.
Let's hope we get the next appointment right, I don't expect we will find changing managers to get better results is as easy as some think.
I haven't got words for imbeciles like the whoppers. They will bad mouth anyone at the club who is working hard. We support Chester not some money bags club. It will remain difficult to be competitive in this league.

Right decision. Think most people felt he should have gone at the end of last season as it was obvious there was going to be a huge hangover. Only hope was he got off to a flier and once that didn't happen the writing was on the wall. Wish him well and shame it didn't work out. No need for some of the gloating and classless stuff. No doubt he worked hard - just don't think he is cut out to be a manager

What's done is now done thankfully, hopefully we can all move on, unite and get behind the team and whoever the new manager may be. Have no doubt the removal of McCarthy will improve Saturday's attendance, I just hope we can play with a little more freedom and the players can express themselves more. The players aren't blameless in the sacking of McCarthy, regardless of his naivety and tactical shortcomings and they owe the supporters a big performance against Ebbsfleet. I don't have a personal preference regarding the new manager, except it should be an external candidate. Fresh start, clean slate for me. As for Richard, Roman etc I admire and respect your loyalty towards Jon but am sure we are all in agreement on the results basis alone Jon's position was untenable.

So the last 2 Chester games I have attended have both been away, both ended up in 2-0 defeats and both times the manager has been sacked before the next game. Give me a shout next time you need me

Mixed feelings about the whole situation if I'm honest. Although it's absolutely the right decision, it still doesn't solve all of my concerns. Board members were warned at the back end of last season what would happen if we clung on to Macca as it all seemed so blindly obvious by then he wasn't a proper manager. They couldn't see it though and it does worry me moving forward.
It hits home when you tell fans of other clubs how awful Macca's record is and they always look puzzled as to how it ever got to that point. It really wouldn't have happened anywhere else - and don't think that's a good thing.
Clearly we've not left it too late for the new manager to turn it around, although if we'd given him till Christmas as some wanted it definitely would have been. Well done to the board for stepping up and making the call.

Well done to the board for stepping up and making the call. I think the Board were blind-sighted by what happened at the end of the 15-16 season, all of the uncertainty, losing Hannah and Heneghan etc that they were desperate for some stability going into the 17-18 season. So they gave the manager a long contract, started contract renewal negotiations early, started talking to new players early, had plenty of sponsorship in the 'pipeline' etc all to try and be as prepared as possible for this season, so sacking him at the end of the season would have meant we were back to square one. The board also took the decision to withhold additional funds that were so desperately needed in January when the squad was down to bare bones, to fund a better squad this season. This gave McCarthy the perfect excuse for the downturn in form, "wait until next season when we have a fully fit squad you'll see what we're capable of etc" and they obviously bought into that, because when we did have a fully fit squad he got us to 7th in the league so it didn't seem beyond the realms of possibility that the injuries etc were genuinely the reason for the downturn in form and not the "Sharps effect". It looks as though now if they had given him money to strengthen in January, we would still have plummeted down the table and he would have had no excuse and would probably have been sacked in May. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and it's easy to look back, see that it didn't work out and say "I told you so" to the board, but at the time they had a long-term plan in place, gave it a chance but then took the difficult decision before it was too late. Personally that gives me more confidence moving forward than if they had sacked him in May because "they were warned what would happen if they clung onto him" by some negative DC posters. Let's just hope lessons have been learned and we can move forward from this.

The worrying thing, apart from how much this debacle has cost the club (i.e. us,) is that the Board isn't going to make a decision until after 23rd September! Now nobody would mind a few days to check over the candidates, but nearly three weeks!! That's on top of the ridiculous procrastination before taking the decision in the first place which has led us to being in the bottom four of the league. Talk about indecisive and lack of leadership.

Haven't posted on the sacking yet but here's my take on it.
Thankfully the board was seen sense to make the change now before it is too late because we were in complete freefall and had been for ages. Is it sad? Well yes, in human terms, I think there are elements of sadness to it because a decent guy, who genuinely worked well for the club in lots of areas and desperately wanted to do well has been booted out. Problem is football is a results based business and just being a nice fella is not enough - there was no other choice. But I don't buy into the abuse of Macca, or the accusations of arrogance. Desperation and delusion, born out of a loss to know what to do to change it are more appropriate.I wish him well on whatever he does next, it won't be a managers job for sure.
Moving forward, the board need to get it right. If not we are relegated, simple as that.

He laughed when I told him it was all the same man. As I have said before, mcarthy should have gone in the summer. How he was allowed to start the new season and use up the budget is absolutely mind boggling.
