All the best to Jon. A man with genuine passion for the club and a great servant to the community trust. Best of luck to you. Couldn't have said it better myself. Football is a cut throat business, managers know 99.9% of them will be sacked at some stage,we would have been sacked last year if he had the money, people now saying good luck and what a nice bloke he was are the disgrace, everybody wanted him gone,to now offer gushing platitudes is so wrong,

For the good of the club he had to go, but on a human level most of us can appreciate that it's sad for a man to lose his job.

I've had many a chat with Jon and we shared some problems and he empathised with me and me with him. I think he was a decent man, but the pressures of the job really got to him and in many ways I'm glad he was sacked because it was needed for the football team and I also think he was in danger of a serious mental health breakdown. I wish him well and hope that his next venture is less of a pressure cooker.

That's sad to hear Hannibal. I spoke with Jon on a couple of occasions. And whilst things for whatever reason were not great to hear that you had/have concerns for his health is sad. I remember him as a player and also spent my senior school years very close to his home town. I do hope he finds the right role for him soon.

"Gushing platitudes" by saying he is a nice bloke and wishing him well. What a dark place you must be in. Enjoy your Sunday. My Sunday was lovely by the way thank you for your good wishes. I'm with you Debbie. Prior to his failed foray into football management McCarthy gained a University degree, and was a lecturer. By all accounts he was good at his job at Chester in his non managerial capacity. Long ago he must have realised he was not going to succeed as our manager, at which time he could have quit and returned to what he was good at. No cost to Chester FC, and no loss of face to himself. I'm at a loss as to why he stuck it out as manager, month after month, and in the process opened himself up to ridicule in the event he returns to lecturing. I cannot believe he is stupid, his degree prevents this thought, so at some point he dug himself into a deep hole and chose the option of a very generous payoff from the club he purports to love. Sorry, but this greed is not the action of a nice man. Single handedly he has set the club back a couple of years, so I don't wish him well in the short term, he doesn't deserve that. I hope the money he has cajoled from the club keeps him above the breadline and gives him time to repent on his greed and delusion. In the long term, of course, I wish him well in any career outside football management.

It is the hypocrisy of certain posters on here who were desperate for him to be sacked, the minute it happens they then post their good luck messages etc,i have no idea whether he was a nice chap or not,i know he didn't win football matches, which is what he was paid to do,if he has a good career to go back to great for him and his family,as a football manager he was to be honest not very good(that is being kind)
