I think there's more chance we employ Shaw as manager than Higgins. Neither will happen. I wonder if Shaw or McIntyre will apply for it? Shaw isn't interested and I really hope McIntyre stays put with the youth team. Callum has done an unbelievable job with the youth sides and isn't needed at first team level (just yet......)

Anyone remember that guy from America that was posting up on the other dc about buying the club when it all went Pete Tong during the Vaughan era ? Think that was an elaborate wind up too, just like I reckon this is !! Hearing this is a genuine application Actually I am/was that guy and the attempt at the time was genuine enough, although I wasn't in America at the time I was stationed in Germany transitioning out of the US Army and had several backers within the German footballing world and with money and we made a genuine attempt to negotiate with Vaughan. However, he wanted ridiculous amounts of money and was completely unreasonable and considering I have previously been on the coaching staff there at Chester under Mike Pejic, Kevin Ratcliffe and I am very good friends with Dave Felgate and Graham Barrow. Just because you might know it, or majority of the support aren't aware of the circumstances shouldn't mean that it is ridiculous or a wind up, I have had a pretty long playing, coaching and management career in U.K. and in the states and have a love for Chester FC since I was an apprentice under Harry McNally and the days of Carl Dale etc. I read these posts with the assumption that most fans want what's best for the club I'm sure that's the case but some of you are just never happy unless you have something to bitch and moan about. This club has the potential to be back in the league but only with everyone heading in the same direction

Here's the other thing too I have been here in the States for the last 15+ years playing and coaching also from MLS level and others, if I apply for the job and I have a UEFA A licence amongst others have multiple connections across the world and back in the UK shouldn't I get an opportunity to do so without ridicule too.
I have played in the league and at conference level, I have maintained connections and know exactly what's going on at that level and below and have done for the last 6 years to so, wherever the person comes from and whatever thier expertise as long as it's the RIGHT person for the job then who gives a crap.

Interesting tweet from Matt Higgins tonight, saying "thanks for all the messages, cannot wait for next week" ✈️⚽️ So that for me confirms he's got an interview.

Surely a wind up! The club would be wasting everyone's time if they are giving him an interview!

This is the biggest appointment in our recent history. We cannot, literally, afford to get this wrong. Whatever this guys experience abroad he would be a massive gamble. He has no experience of managing at this level, something which is absolutely imperative in my view. Watching from a distance is one thing, living and breathing it on a daily basis is quite another. I keep telling myself that this won't be taken seriously and that the club understand that they need to appoint someone who will unite the fans. US coach, well connected all over the globe and a self-proclaimed tactical genius - why do I keep getting these flashbacks!?

Whatever anybody has done in and around the MLS is irrelevant. It's recent success within the football conference we should be focusing on surely? We've been there before. I will never forget that day walking back to the station after we had just lost our football league status.

The requirement that applicants should be able to demonstrate "a working knowledge of National League football or its equivalent" seems a bit ambiguous because what do you define as the equivalent? The Scottish Champ/1st Division? Possibly the very top end of the Welsh Prem (at a push)? Perhaps the MLS as well IF Higgins really is being taken seriously. For me it needs to be someone who really does know the National League.

A track record in other leagues is not necessarily an indicator of likely success. Look at Frank de Boer at Palace, coached at Milan and Ajax and could be fired within 6 weeks if a PL season. Knowledge of the lower leagues should be right up there in the MANDATORY requirements

It would be suicidal for the club to even offer this absolute chancer an interview. There are people with experience in playing and managing at Conference level and below who actively want the job and who are far more experienced and successful at lower league management than some lad from Frodsham living in the states coaching kids and womens teams.
If by some ridiculous turn of events this clown got the job there will be an EGM called for and the board can be expected to resign with immediate effect. It would be suicidal for the club, and for the board and MM to appoint this clown.
We should be tossing his 'application' in the bin, and interviewing other applicants with a proven knowledge of this level and below.
If this lad is serious about wanting to move into Management over here, let him apply for a coaching position at the club (if one is available) or elsewhere and prove himself that way.

If its a wind up fair enough, but if its not, WHY NOT!!!
- He' a local lad whos done well for himself - Made a name for himself in America, at a far bigger club than Chester - New ideas and determined to make his name over here.
I trust the board and if they believe he is teh right man I'm right behind them. I think they know a little more about him than the people on this board, COYBB.

I'm not against fresh ideas but in the situation we are in its imperative we employ someone who has worked at this level in recent times who has experience of managing the sort of budget we have. If we were a standard mid table team then perhaps a risk could be taken but we went with a managerial novice last time and it didn't end up well, so we now need a safe pair of hands to ensure we don't fall into the Conference North as we would not return from that league any time soon. As someone else said, perhaps if the new manager needs coaching assistance then this lad is an option but then again I can't imagine that's the sort of opportunity he'd go for. If he gets an interview then I can only assume that the quality of candidates is not great. I'm no supporter of Shaun Reid getting the role but even he would be more suitable than Higgins IMO.

Happened on your watch Bob.. you're culpable
And besides, it was only when Maison took 'charge' that the official boycott had started and crowds took a real nosedive down to around the 400 mark. Supporters wanted to take the club off V*ugh*n but he wanted too much money to reclaim his 'investment'.
We actually started the season bringing in between 1,400-1,700 fans at the start.
I was very happy with Jim Harvey at the helm actually, shame those in charge at the club at the time were an absolute joke..

Happy with Jim Harvey ...... that invalidates your argument.
Not sure why everyone is getting so worked up about a wind up. Give the board some credit. We've had 2 managers who weren't the real deal so I'm sure they are aware of how important it is that we get it right this time. There are some very good candidates. I'm thinking Bignot, but I also thought that about Burr, then McCarthy. I was one of the ones that thought McCarthy should have been sacked in the summer. Brabin, Edinburgh, Hill and a few others look decent. Please board make the right decision.

He was a proven manager at Conference level at the time, and a coup for us given how shite we were being run off the field. He made several changes to the side and results did, albeit in the short term, improve.
I'm sure you were unhappy with him at the time as well then were you? Or are you basing all this opinion on the speculation on the old forum when he was assisting with the Youth Scholarship scheme during Neil Young's reign?
So was I happier with Harvey at the helm over Maison and Wadsworth? Yes, too bloody right I was!
Now, explain to me why my opinion is invalid..

I've never really understand what the problem some fans have with Harvey is. The way I see it, he did a decent job as manager in ridiculous circumstances, then came back to the club in a role that wasn't well explained by the board at the time. If I remember rightly he even felt the need to come on DC himself and explain his role because nobody else would.
Not saying I'd want him to be manager, but I've got no problem with the fella myself.

In the main, I'm telling myself it's obviously a wind up, and to have faith in the board to do the obvious thing and disregard this joker.
But for some reason I keep having visions of him somehow getting an interview and talking himself into the job, maybe it just comes with the territory of being a Chester fan after all of the ridiculous things we've been through.
It feels like this sort of shite could only happen to us!!

You and me both. Is the anti Harvey movement based on fact or Chinese whispers. I've seen the odd thing on here but usually hints and rumours but nothing substantiated, so in the lack of any evidence, I have no problem with the man. If someone has evidence of some serious misdemeanour on his part, I am happy to change my mind. As Harvey is not in the frame for the job, I'm more intrigued by Kevin Davies applying - would be the big name to revitalise the club but too much of a gamble for me.

There are probably plenty of ex-pros with UEFA A licence in coaching who are available, but not many with sound managerial experience. A "big name" inexperienced manager/coach would be a hell of a risk, but might attract sufficient media attention to be financially attractive at say FA cup time. Don't have any knowledge about Kevin Davies but always seemed committed.
