Bignot at a lower level like Neil Young, Richard Money can't disagree but sometimes it's better the devil you know and think Grahams association with the club and as a leader is what we need in this current battle.

If Graham is available I would bite his hand off, in an ideal world Andy Holden would be along side him. I am not sure why anyone who has seen teams Graham has been involved with, usually underdogs(Wigan winning FA Cup)doesn't think he can still do a job here. I am not sure I want someone who has a bit of a record in the national league, I think I want someone who knows this club and what it takes to get a team playing and get promoted.

His last stints as manager of Chester were in bad times and under the wrong type of owner.
This is the perfect opportunity for him and the club to shine again.
What exactly have the other applicants achieved at national league premier level? Nothing

Get him in ASAP and get the players in everyday this week. Saturday is a huge game for the club. Imagine the lift we will get if we have Barrow back and can get three points

He was at the club offices today. Wouldn't believe anything this fella says. He's apparently seen all sorts of people at the club. Interviews have been elsewhere, not at the ground so this is bullshit. In recent weeks I have seen 2 significant people at the ground. Ratcliffe and Barrow today. 2 people. No more and no less. Hardly "all sorts". and the interviews today did take part at the ground.

dmcnally I guess you don't like people like me who get information from the club before low life like you. LOL Low life is people like yourself making up rumours and calling for people doing a good job to leave the club. LOL Were you not on Devachat in the summer when people were coming to me asking who we were signing next as I was ITK. LOL

For you to have seen both Ratcliffe and Barrow the exact moment they were at the ground would suggest you are a volunteer at the club. Given your less-than-sunny-disposition for anything Chester related, I find it hard to believe you'd be a volunteer!!

So on that logic, if someone like Derby County had an interest from Jose Mourinho, they would turn him down because he is over qualified? What has Barrow achieved as a manager in the last 20 years, though? He hasn't been a manager outright for a long time. There's this automatic assumption, based on one season 23 years ago, that he is our saviour. Far too much sentimentality based on performance a quarter of a century ago. If he had been a manager at a higher level, winning things during that period then I would have no issue in him coming back. What is his knowledge of National League football? Bignot, Money etc may not be romantic names in the sense of Barrow but they all have a recent track record at this level. Erm...he managed a club called Chester City in our league and under very difficult circumstances finished with a 40% win ratio 16 years ago.

Yes I am a volunteer at the club and I am there most days.
I love Chester F C. What I dislike is incompetent fools at the helm like McCarthy and Maguire.

Well, back on topic, it would appear GB is a strong candidate for the job all of a sudden. Legend around the club, but is this the best long term solution to our problems. IMO, sometimes things are best left in the past. Think Mourinho returning to Chelsea, didn't end well.

IMO, sometimes things are best left in the past. Think Mourinho returning to Chelsea, didn't end well. I don't think we are in a position to look for a "long term solution" as a priority. We are in such a predicament that a "short term to the point of immediate solution" is required in order to give us any long term to look forward to. i previously posted my opinion that a Graham Barrow/Andy Holden ticket would offer an opportunity for a short term solution whilst also building for the longer term. Manchester United appointed Tommy Docherty for 1973/74 season, got relegated and successfully promoted again the next season. Unlike United then, we are a long way off having resources to bounce back, effectively making this a "sh*t or bust" season.

If GB is being interviewed then I can't see how anybody else could get a look in? Put his association with us to one side. He's played, coached or managed / assistant managed at every level of the game from our current level through to the Premiership, including Wembley finals. Who's CV would come close to that? If something could be agreed we would be punching way above our weight based on an affection / affinity with our club.
That of course is no guarantee for success, after all it is a "funny old game", but come on we just couldn't afford that level and knowledge and experience without the historical connection.
Please come home Graham!

I would feel much more confident with Barrow, at the helm. Massive experience and contacts, throughout the game. And a Chester legend, to boot.
Bring him home.

He would bring an immediate lift to the club and inspire many of the older fans who now support from their armchairs to get down to the ground once more.

I just think that some posts relate to giving the fans a much needed lift. That isn't at all what's needed here, its a man that brings in results that will ultimately lift us as fans. Barrow is a superb candidate, with a great CV, but the decision has to be based on the conference knowledge of here and now. No doubt he's a good manager, and an icon at the Deva, but my question would be, is he best equipped, in 2017, for bringing us out of trouble. Time will tell. For what it's worth, i'm hoping for Bignot, but would be happy with Money or Barrow as an alternative. As a Chester fan, you can't help but worry we'll appoint Watson on the cheap and try to mask it with talk of him being 'superb' in interviews last time and this.

He also has no recent experience of the conference, which has changed for the worse in recent years, with more money than ever in the division.

What's the average tenure of a manager these days? Graham's only 63 and if he's fit and well, which I assume he is since he was an assistant manger up until 5:00 p.m on Saturday, then I see no reason to think he's only a short term appointment. Not by modern management standards anyhow. I'd call him experienced. Something we desperately need to steer the good ship Chester.

Barrow is still under contract at Chesterfield although I would imagine we would release him without to much of a fight. He was asked to take the first team in the wake of Caldwells sacking but refused stating he was only at the club to support Caldwell. There is nothing left for him to remain.

I would hardly say that is a ringing endorsement of his potential to get us out of the mess we are currently in. In 1994 he led us to promotion from Division 3 and at that point was a hero to Chester fans, particularly off the back of his successful playing career for us. Don't get me wrong, in his day he was a cracking manager and is a Chester legend. I just don't see what he's achieved in the last 23 years that warrant him as the outstanding candidate for the role.
