On way home, solid performance that, would have liked to have seen Bell given a run against McNulty, think he could have caused them problems. Thought Lynch was outstanding today 4 top draw saves to keep us in the game, thought Dawson was excellent in midfield too, always available and trying play the ball, always dropping off and playing from the back. Part of me thinks we missed a good opportunity to beat them today. Hopefully we can build on this, we looked a lot sharper than midweek. Just one thing please can someone teach Halls how to pass the ball, how many times is he going to drop us in it with misplaced passes All in all take a point Onto the next one

Lynchy get yourself over to "Mojo" with the indie kids and dance yourself silly to the "Courteeners" whilst drinking your body weight in lager. You deserve it!

Good point that, yes we rode our luck a bit here and there but I thought we deserved it. I also thought Bignot got it right tactically. Yes, we were under the cosh, but that was bound to be the case against a strong team who've won two on the bounce. I said before the game we needed to frustrate them and the longer it stayed 0-0, the more anxious they got.
Lynch is a decent keeper IMO. His weaknesses have been blown out of proportion I think. Probably man of the match, but I thought Dawson, Shaw and the two at the back played well. Hannah doesn't have enough to his game to play up front on his own and really struggled - even so I wasn't sure I agreed with some of the fans shouting for him to be taken off as he's a player who only needs one chance to score even when playing badly. Akintunde's decision making is not always great but he was a lot better second half. Halls continues to worry me, just don't think he's good enough.
We've seen a bit of everything in Bignot's three games so far - a surprisingly impressive win that got us all excited, followed by a dismal defeat that reminded us of our limitations. Today was another reminder of our limitations really, but we showed we can be organised, gutsy and hard to beat. We'd all have taken a 0-0 this morning wouldn't we?

Dawson is a good player centrally, and it showed, always looking to get on the ball. I always see him as a bit of a...great on week, average the next, kind of player. But if he can find consistent game game time centrally he will be an asset. I think James playing wide was tactical to stop their full back having it all his own way. Didn't quite work for us on the left against another good full back and LRT did what he could against a very good player. Bignots interview clearly called for a reaction and they gave us one. Support like that we will always have a chance, shame it's never the same at home being honest, despite the lads best efforts behind the goal!

Can’t wait for this one! Best away day by a mile, and probably the best chance we have had in years of beating Tranmere away. We should take a healthy following again, but performance-wise big improvements need to be made from last night. Hopefully we can put Trampmere under pressure early on then score another goal later on. Come On City! Score: Tranmere Rovers 0-2 Chester FC (Hannah, Astles) Attendance: 7,988 (1,257 Chester) COYB! Sorry my friend but you are too young to drink and it appears to have affected your brain ! I was at the Wrexham v Tranmere game and although we won you could tell that there was a good team there somewhere providing that prick of a manager Mellon could sort things out. I watched them again last night and although they won they were still not running on all cylinders but getting better. You don't stand a chance of getting anything from this game and as for taking 1257 really ? I predict a 3 nil thumping by Tranmere. A good draw there today and 1198 blues in the away end, you were saying??

Brilliant battling performance against a talented & expensive team.
Masterclass by Lynch, but Halls is awful. When was the last time he passed to his own team mate?

Delays on MerseyRail at the minute with possible cancellations due.Track problems at Green Lane apparently. Trains now not stopping at any station between Hooton and Birkenhead Central. Merseyrail trains have been absolutely dreadful in recent weeks. The guard strikes have been the least of the problems. Ground is about a 20-30 min walk from Birkenhead Central. I'm walking from Conway Park which is a little further. Three good years under Neil Young then it all goes to pot. 😀

Interesting how 5 hrs ago you were saying sometimes being up for it is not enough when we have Dawson in the team( along with others I know) and now you singing his praises for what it's worth I think Dawson is a very good player, just because he plays the odd misplaced pass people get on his back, he is always available always tries to play the ball not hoof it, always looks to play forward and create things, and does his fair share of the hard work too. without a doubt for me the most talented and cleverest footballer in our team.

I'm generally a positive person and I've been called a happy clapper many times before but I'm sorry today was poor. A point at Prenton Park is decent but Tranmere were awful and should still have won by 2 or 3 goals. Lynch's kicking was poor but he was man of the match by miles today for a string of superb saves. Tranmere were there for the taking but we never looked like beating them. No movement, countless misplaced passes, and a seeming lack of effort from one or two of the players. We had four CMs on the pitch, admittedly down to having a very unbalanced squad, so had no width. Don't know what Matty Waters has to do to get a game, he's never looked out of his depth when I've seen him, and with that cracking goal at Gateshead he'll have confidence. Today showed how much we miss Mahon, apart from Akintunde he's the only one who can run at players. Hannah struggled today and is still in McNulty's pocket now. We needed to play to Hannah's strengths more - and as we've seen before he can't play up front on his own. Bignot said after Woking that when we aren't playing well it's important we don't lose and yes we have done that today. Just very frustrating as I think we could have taken all 3 with a better performance. Excellent support taking nearly 1200 fans, hopefully take a good few hundred down to Kiddy for a much needed cup run. Had a few quid on 0-0 at very good odds of 16/1 so it's not all bad!

A battling performance but we really do lack any quality, in the final third. Hannah was shocking and I am sick of his lack of ability, to hold the ball up. Either get White fit, give Bell a run or try and find a targetman from the lower leagues. I honestly think Hannah has gone as a player and we will truly regret giving him a 2 year deal. Central defenders played well and a toss up for MOM between Lynch and Dawson.

Rode our luck and Lynch pulled of some worldies. Happy with the performance though, fairly solid at the back although they were getting on the end of to many crosses. Everyone can see we are desperate for two wide players that'll provide some width. Kingo is wasted out wide, he's solid defensively but doesn't offer anything going forward. Dawson is absolute class and makes us keep it on the deck. I would have liked to see Bell replace Hannah who was ineffective and offered us nothing. McNulty and Sutton were there for the taking.

We would all have taken a point this morning and we've got to be delighted with that return. However, the game reminded us of our huge limitations and but for a Lynch masterclass it could have been five or six. Halls was dreadful yet again and Hannah is past it. Playing up front on his own was always going to be tough but he didn't hold the ball up or run the channels all afternoon. We missed any kind of width and wouldn't have scored if we had played all night. I guess we've just got to be happy that the players showed a bit of of grit and determination and we've come away with a fortunate point. We now desperately need a cup run to provide MB with some funds to strengthen this threadbare and exceptionally limited squad.

Great result, resilient but uncreative performance, superb support probably worth half a point
Dawson now emerging as the creative driving force in midfield Halls desperately needing a solid performance purely for his confidence Similarly, Hannah desperately needs a goal for his confidence because in my opinion he's just not doing it for me at the moment Lack of creativity and width in the final third is leading to a dirth of chances so that we are always in danger of struggling if we fall behind or need to kill a game off.
I'm confident MB knows this and is working on it and we'll see a slow but steady improvement in the next few weeks.
A thumping win would do us a power of good, let's hope next week provides that in the Cup.
Overall, pretty happy with today although felt that if we'd pushed Tranmere harder we could have knicked it.
Special mention to Alex Lynch, subject to a fair degree of criticism but truly outstanding today

Playing James out wide is the kind of nonesense you'd expect from McCarthy, not Bignot. Hannah has been useless and Rowe-Turner isn't a defender. Lynch MOM so far for us. Tactically superb yeah, he's nullified their full back all game who is arguably their best player, lynch MOTM by miles and superb effort today. Point gained, won't be easy to beat under Bignot now he's had some time with them. Don't understand any criticism of LRT, Hannah or tactics. They've worked their arses off for the cause and Hannah has been a frustrated figure. What game was you at Hannah never had a kick,

I think that this was a very good point. Lynch man of the match by a mile. Never put a foot wrong and made a series of top saves. We set up not to lose this afternoon, and certainly look like a team who will be tough to get broken down. Tranmere had their moments, but never set the world alight. I can’t see them getting promoted this season at all and look a team low in confidence. For us, any point taken away at our rivals is a gain, and was much deserved today. I don’t think we were too strong in attack, however our defence and midfield did excellently well in intercepting and breaking up play. We will improve under Mr Bignot. Although we may not score for fun all the time I certainly think our defence will look stronger. Our supporters were excellent as well and turned up in big numbers. We never stopped singing. Let’s hope we can take another strong following to Kiddy next week and progress to the first round of the FA Cup. Huge week for us. Can’t wait!!

I think all talk of lack of movement/goal threat is largely irrelevant today because MB clearly set us up to take a point. Our plan was clearly to have a solid base and be secure. I’ve no qualms about that, we got what we came for.
I actually think in open play it was reasonably even, it was just they were able to turn their good spells into chances.
I’m generally pretty forgiving of anything that is served up to us, so long as the players are trying their absolute hardest. That was the case today, they dug in and took a point of a team that has a huge squad and incomparable budget.
Yes Hannah was dreadful but he had the ultimate thankless task. He missed pre-season and will only improve the more games he plays.

Why would most of us think the same? if you go into a game thinking negative what's the point in going?? i always thought we would get something from the game, Tranmere not had the greatest of starts, I think we will improve week on week, and we always travel well COYB

Today was a very hard earned point, yes we rode our luck but our players gave their all and battled for everything ! This could be the turning point in the season, MB has gained 4 points from his 3 games which is a good base to build on, he seems to have created a good team spirit in a few weeks. It was great seeing such a big vocal support in the cowshed end, we must have one of the best away support in the country given our small home crowds ! If we can get through in the FA cup and generate some cash for new players this season can be rescued !

Nice to keep a clean sheet away from home too - our first since Torquay on April 1st. Especially satisfying that those two scallies Tranmere have up front had a miserable day.

I would have brought Bell on for Shaw for last 20 mins but brought James in from out wide and played 4-3-3. That would have given Mellon something to think about. Great turnout by the fans today who were rewarded by a much improved and a gutsy performance. We won't go down.

Could easily have lost three or four but thought overall we played OK. Lynch superb, along with Astles and McCombe and Dawson spread the play nicely. The limitations have been pointed out - sorry, just don't think Hannah offers enough. Lost count of the times he gave the ball away and put us under pressure. I think White and Akintunde may be the way forward. Davies could have brought a deck chair today. I don't like Kingsley on the right - no pace, doesn't get forwards enough. He's wasted there. Halls is either very short of confidence or just not very good. LRT was better but too careless with the ball. Can't argue with a point at Tranmere but the more the game went on I felt we could have nicked it if we'd been a bit more adventurous. Would have been good to see Chappell given a run at their defence for the last ten. Too easy for McNulty yet again.

As poor as Hannah was, I still thought if anyone was going to score for us it would be him. The one time McNulty misjudged it he was almost in.

Lynch m-o-m yes but Ryan Astles again a giant. Nobody has mentioned that McNulty looked very slim today .... he'll still be playing when he's 40 ... his reading of the game is so good. Sad that Hannah looked like he's morphed into Kane Richards today.

Give Hannah a break, the season he became a goal machine was similar at the beginning, it took him time to get match fit, bed in and begin notching. Having played very little at Barrow I would not be surprised if we see the same this season once he finds his feet again. There are goals in that man.
