The question is simple.
Is Scottish Football, as a whole, shit?
Yes or No

I’m not voting Y or N; clearly Scottish Football in not the worst but neither is it up with the top leagues. What I do like about the Scottish leagues is that the. Clubs in general live within their means. Some of the football served up is not too clever but it does have an element of honesty and I quite like the almost nativity of the lower leagues when you see Trialist A or B as a goalscorer.

Absolutely terrible. God knows I've tried to sit through a fair few games but it's just awful. It's a million miles an hour stuff with nobody really getting anywhere and zero quality.

Quality wise it's not the best, which I presume is what you meant.
By the same token could you say, "Is English non-league football shit?"

No the Atmosphere, Drama and the quality of the Rangers and Hibs final a couple of years who was one of the best you will see and I can't remember a final in England that has been played with such passion in recent years, unfortunately money talks in football and the quality players the likes of VVD, McArthur, McCarthy, Fraser, Arfield,Kayal, Johansen, Wanyama, Hooper,Robertson, Ledley have gone for peanuts and the players that went from Rangers in 2012 including Davis, Naismith and Fleck have all gone to find success in England (more recently fleck at Shef Utd) there are always going to be a few that won't make it like Danny Wilson but a large portion of players that transfer from Scotland to England seem to adjust well from a league that is supposedly " Poor " KT and Dembele would walk into most English sides
You having that frog?

So you've mentioned about 12-13 players there out of an entire league system that would be nothing more than squad players in a lower to mid table English top flight side.
Yeah top quality league that isn't it....

It's definitely on the decline. There was a time when Celtic would be able to play and beat Barcelona and the like. This was when they could pick up players like Hendrick Larsson. The relative small population of the country and their quest for power about 20 years ago when the trend for Scottish players coming south reversed was the beginning of the decline. Celtic would not pay more than £5 or 6 million for a player as they do live within their means. The decline of Rangers has not helped either.

Right that's a quick answer. 70% of people who voted agree with me that it's a load of rubbish.
Nice one..

I'd say the SPL is a boring league, especially now that Rangers have lost their clout. Both the Old Firm clubs are dislikable and I'd love to see anyone different win it.
The whole splitting the league in half thing is a bit of a joke as well. It strikes me that part of the problem with the Scottish league is that they try and run it to the same timetable as the English league, even though there are fewer teams in their leagues. I mean, why do teams need to play each other three or four times a season? Once home and once away is enough to decide who the best team is.
Instead of four leagues of 10 or 12, they should have two leagues of 20 or so. It would require some investment to get the smaller clubs' grounds up to scratch, but it would improve the credibility of the league.

Pathetic question, devoid of any specific aspects, and displaying ignorance in the unnecessary use of the word "shit". Perhaps it is interesting to note that Scottish football is more self sustainable than their English counterparts. Certainly the whole of the English Premiership is being prostituted by the likes of Sky, or pimped as playthings by the megalomania of foreign ownership from the middle and Far East through to North America. As for the playing representations it would be worth seeing the data in respect of the top leagues of all four home countries. I would wager that the English league has the poorest representation of home grown players. I dare say the propensity to cheat is greater in English football too, whether it be diving, shirt pulling, or timewasting. Not sure why the question was asked, particularly by a supporter of a club who have played all their home games in Wales for the past 25 years.

The Scottish population is barely 5 million, England is huge in comparison and teams that win the top flight don't even net 3 mil in Scotland in prize money, you slate the standard of the league but based on what they gain in money they do pretty well I would say now stop talking dross Froggy, had it up to here with your bloody slander of the beautiful game in Scotland

It’s dismal . Now Rangers aren’t as strong, Celtic win it every year by at least 20 points. Not the most inspiring at all considering most crowds are lower FL/NL standard and a couple of clubs already have artificial pitches. I’ve never liked the SPL and the standard of football is quite slowly paced tbh.

In recent years I have had some great days out watching teams like Ayr, Arbroath, Clyde and Albion Rovers and am soon to go up to see Elgin City. It is proper football watched by proper football supporters. I also tune in to Sportscene which is a 1 hour highlight show of the SPL graced by the likes of Craig Curran at Ross County and, until recently, Ben Heneghan at Motherwell.
Overall I reckon that the quality of football in the SPL is not great but the quality of the match experience, particularly in leagues 1 and 2 is top notch. So I suppose it depends what you want from watching football. I can see why, based on Celtic's domination of the SPL, you might think that there is little competition up there, but outside the SPL there are three competitive and absorbing leagues with teams being run on a sustainable basis and staffed by friendly volunteers!

Even when there aren't any real English players of note they simply import foreigners and give them English status, even where they have no English ancestry. At least the other three home nations give caps to those with ancestral connections. In reality you can naturalise and become British, but that hardly makes you English. Therein is another argument in regard to what should constitute being English. Too deep for you Al? Case closed.

Is there any data available in regard to what percentages of population of the town or city a team represents that attend home matches? Ross County have an average attendance of 4,103, and the town has a population of only 5,491. Chester, on the other hand, choose to play in Wales and with a paltry home average currently at below 2,000 even though the population of the city is about 120,000. Now, that is real lack of support!

Ireland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all similar or smaller countries to Scotland, and have outperformed them over the last 20 years.

I don't get the point of the post really. As a nation Scotland has 10% of the population of England. Away from Edinburgh and Glasgow the towns are quite small and provincial. Over the years they have produced excellent footballers, although recently that have struggled, and competed with England on a par.
Excluding Celtic and Rangers (until recently) their league system goes from Championship level to Northern Premier level over 40 teams, so competition is inhibited.
I like Scottish football, they have great historic teams and traditions and great club names and play at a level you would expect given the size of the country. Perhaps we would beat the likes of Cowdenbeath or Stenhousemuir, but so what.
We're not exactly setting the world on light either are we....

Don't change the subject You've implied that because Scotland doesn't have two world class players, the case (that Scottish football is shit) is closed. If that's the case, then any country that doesn't have two world class players must have shit football. Most countries don't have two world class players, so most countries' football must therefore be shit, including England - I don't think Kane or Alli can be said to be world class until they've proven themselves on a European and international level. I don't disagree with you that Scottish football isn't up to much, but I don't think your arguments are either!
