People voted Tory because of Corbyn and his policies & dithering - worst ever result for Labour since 1935. The stats don't lie however you try and twist them.
It's similar to America - If anyone else had stood against Trump rather than Hilary Clinton he would have never been elected.

They voted to “get Brexit done” and the so-called “moderates” in the Labour Party turned Labour into a Second Referendum party.
It was a Brexit election. If anybody can’t see that they need a lobotomy. As someone said above, the stats don’t lie. Labour’s policies were successful but their Brexit stance lost it.

I’ve always maintained since the 2019 GE result that it was solely Brexit-related.

I agree with you on that but you never believed it prior to the election. Indeed. Because it was a general election to elect a government to run the country and everything that entails for five years. People should think of the bigger picture but sadly they voted on one policy. Get what you deserve if you end up losing out when it comes to healthcare, rights at work, public transport networks, the cost of living etc.

Don't want to go over old ground because I believe it's been done to death. We can talk for the next 5 years and nothing will change unless another party emerges with credible policies and a believable leader.

Labour’s policies were credible and very popular until the whole Brexit stance got muddied.

This is very true, if people had believed Labour would have been better then surely they would not have returned a tory government with an 80 seat majority. People foolishly believed their self-interests matched those of the billionaires in the media. I recall some posters on here getting their knickers in a twist because Alan Sugar threatened to f*ck off if he had to pay more tax. Also, the average Tory voter, working class or otherwise, didn’t really give a shit about the NHS or care workers. If they did, they wouldn’t have voted for a party that spent the past 10 years destroying it. I find the hypocrisy of people I know voted Tory now banging the drum for NHS workers very troubling. Where were you when doctors and nurses were asking for a decent wage and a properly resourced service that didn’t endanger public safety?

Corbyn wanted a second vote, where as boris was prepared to give the people what they voted on. I'm a labour voter, no expert on politics, but even I could see he didn't stand a cat in hells chance of winning that election.

His downfall was being too nice to the snake Starmer and his centrist FBPE cabal

Covid has done for the current administration. Inevitably the public finances will be screwed for years so you'll see the perfect storm of austerity, huge cuts, yet huger tax rises, tanking house prices (important electorally), rising unemployment..., the works.
The same way Gordon Brown got blamed for the worldwide economic crunch in 2008, Boris's administration will forever be blamed for what comes next. Fair or unfair, doesn't matter.

When Corbyn was Labour Leader you could always depend on him to hold the Tories to account. So the Media destroyed him. Now the Labour Party has a Leader the Tories can count on. So the Media build him up. Nod from the Queen, know what I mean?

Have any Brexshitters on here signed up to work as fruit pickers now all the migrant workers have left? Tory Minister George Eustice* has even announced a ‘Pick for Britain’ website to make it easier for you to start grafting for the minimum wage. *owns a fruit farm

No, it’s a good thing, but it was labelled ‘Project Fear’ during the Referendum, much like an agricultural labour shortage and lowering of food safety standards (all of which are now happening).

Tory-lite/LibDemNewco. Two sides of the same corrupt coin “democracy”.
Any investigation into key figures plotting against their own party and its half a million membership will be shelved, I suspect. Evans wrote a report calling for the abolition of democracy within the Party and in support of unaccountable leadership. Interesting that he served as a board member of this football club, that in mind! I hope his views have changed since the report.

Unfortunately the Left is too fractured, they need to present more of a united front, especially for things like the NEC elections. Factionalism is our nemesis. However, I wish David Evans the best of luck and will judge him on his actions, not his words from years ago. Just as a matter of interest are you a Party member?

Starmer isn't what I hope for in a Labour leader and I worry a little about the direction of the party, but it's about getting this appalling rabble out as soon as possible and Labour remains the best hope of that whoever the leader is. I'm no fan of Tony Blair and the Iraq War was a disgrace, but his reign was still a happier time than what came before and what's happened since.
I kind of think Corbyn was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He wasn't the right man for Brexit, but his compassion might have been much better received by the public if he were still leader now.
