A pal of mine who supports the goats, reckons John Rooney is joining Guiseley on loan til end of season and signing for them next season.

He must be on a hell of a wage if Wrexham can loan him out considering he is their main goal threat just to get him of the books and stop the extension trigger activating!

I think the rumour is he's signing for a bottom 4 club this week. I'd expect it to be York City. Haven't got a clue what sort of wage he's on now thou

I knew he wouldn't last at Wrexham, and where are all of these rumours coming from?

How bizarre. Like him or not, he's scoring goals for them at the moment after a slow start.

It's a bit of an odd one Joey. He's hit some form so would have like to have kept him but he's not good enough to hold us to ransom. If we replace him with another Penn type player then I will be very happy.

If true, he's found the right club. Wait till he graces the Nethermoor pitch in front of 800 people. No disrespect to Guiseley as I have a lot of respect for them, but Rooney has found the right level if it appears to be.

You watch Jay Harris end up going there as his replacement.
Been rumours on the Tranmere forum all January about Harris going back there. If Rooney has joined Guiseley then I bet they bring him in as a direct replacement.
Rooney's move is purely about the money. He's started 29 game this season, one more and he triggers an automatic contract extension on the same money he is on currently. Keates obviously thinks he is not worth the money he is on (quite rightly), and so has played hardball with him. Rooney doesn't want to negotiate and so it looks like he's gone.
Fair play to Dean Keates for sticking to his guns.

I suppose you're starting to look towards next season, and as good as form he's in right now, Rooney isn't the player to help you push on to the play-offs or higher. Probably makes smart financial sense to move him on now

Just waiting for HIS spin on it
"Guiseley is a massive club and when they came calling it was too good to turn down"
At least he'll be on first name terms with everyone in the crowd

Disagree Guiseley is his level, if we compare his stats this year to those of Durrell who we brought in to replace him, i'd imagine Rooney's are better and that's with a slow start. Stats don't lie, he's got a fair few assists and 11 goals in 33..whether you like him as a person or not is irrelevant. Wrex fans should be miffed, no midfield goals in that side now.
As for another Penn type, he won't replace those goals and probably won't sign for wrex after his loan. If he plays well, a club will come in and pay more than a mid table side like us and them.

Whenever a Chester fan says 'not his level' etc it just come across as very sour grapes.
Not that long ago that he scored the goal that secured our National League status

Fair play,he is on a run of form atm but overall i'd say during his time here he was average. The odd great free kick but he always slowed the game down to me.Really no more of a loss to me than say Craig Lindfield or Jamie Reed. Anyway is this seven true?I've not seen anything confirmed.

It's obviously about money. Wrexham can't afford to match what he's on this season and he doesn't feel he deserves to take less. Can see him turning in to a bit of a conference journey man now. Shame really, because he could have stayed at chester for life. I don't blame anybody for trying to get more money at this level of football but Wayne has bought him his house and your imagine he weighs him in with the odd car etc.

He's obviously on a fair whack and Keates believes he can get better for that money. Hence sending him out on loan so that he doesn't trigger the additional year on his contract.
I find it hilarious!

To be fair to Rooney why should he take a cut, that was the contract he was offered and signed.
It is funny though.

Rooney is very much a mid table conference player. I can see Keates' thinking behind this; Wrexham are safe from relegation (or they will be in a few games time) and Rooney is on too much money. May as well loan him out to avoid the automatic extension.
For what it's worth, I would rather have Durrell than Rooney. He is that bit more consistent and Rooney was very frustrating - a wonder goal followed by three or four anonymous performances.

It's funny how many people knock Rooney now. When I used to moan about his wasting too much ball last season I was rounded on and accused of disliking him because of his name. Rooney had a considerable fan base on the "board that should not be named". They've all seemed to have disappeared now.

Rooneys effort for us is beyond question, but he still winds a lot of people up when shooting instead of passing. I'd like to see him stay but if his demands are too high it's time to go. As keates showed when signing Russell penn there are better players out there for less money. I think Connor Jennings will be back next year anyway and he's better than Rooney too. In Deano we trust
