2 points.
1. Just looked on the old deva chat. No mention yet. I think it's had its day 2. Quite surprised at the sensible posts on here to this thread. Well done all ( Christ I must be going soft in my old age )

It's obviously about money. Wrexham can't afford to match what he's on this season and he doesn't feel he deserves to take less. Can see him turning in to a bit of a conference journey man now. Shame really, because he could have stayed at chester for life. I don't blame anybody for trying to get more money at this level of football but Wayne has bought him his house and your imagine he weighs him in with the odd car etc. Some confusion over whether the trigger would be a second year on what's he's on or an improved contract. Either way it sounded like he'd have to take. Apart cut to stay. Seems like Keates thinks it's not VFM. A shame but that's football I guess.

It's all rumour and innuendo at the moment. It makes sense with his contract, if Wrexham want him to take a cut and Rooney refuses, to send him out on loan and then release him in the summer.

If this is true then that says a lot about the man himself. I actually rated Rooney when he was here, sure he was one of the most frustrating Chester players I can remember but he could change a game. Did I blame him for going to Wrexham? Lets be honest, for purely footballing reasons I could understand it - we'd lost Hannah and Heneghan and appointed a rookie manager and the smart money would have been on us in a relegation battle. It was the manner of his exit that was the issue for me - pouring his heart out in the press saying he loved it here and would sign a new deal and then as soon as the Goats wafted a few quid extra at him he went back on his word and snakes like that soon earn themselves a reputation. Not to mention his lack of respect in the interview afterwards, no word of thanks for Chester for picking him off the football scrapheap and paying his wages for 3 years.....he'd rather gush about what a massive club the Goats are and how they will always be at the right end of the table etc.
Fast forward to today, and Keates seems to have got them going in the right direction again and generating a bit of spirit down there, but the snake would rather go and play in front of a few hundred at a ramshackle ground. What baffles me is the money his brother earns....if my sister earnt 250k a week then I'm sure she wouldn't see me short, so moving about from club to club in search of an extra hundred quid here and there seems a bit odd to me.

Just waiting for HIS spin on it "Guiseley is a massive club and when they came calling it was too good to turn down" At least he'll be on first name terms with everyone in the crowd Er,,, whatever you spin on it, Guiseley are not a massive club. No matter how many times you say it. What a berk.

Said at the start of the season that I felt he was giving up a pretty stable job with us for in all likelihood, just one year at Wrexham. He’d then be struggling for another local club at the end of the season.
He's got no brains at all.

In a way you can't blame him for chasing the money. He's never going to make it as a football league standard player and although he's still only young it's a very short career and I'm sure he has a young family to support. How many of us would be happy to take a pay cut in our jobs?

To be honest I wasn't his biggest fan when he was here and wasn't bothered when he left. I was gutted when he hit form with the goats but now he's leaving them I'm made up. Well done John and all the best for the future but it's your own fault for believing the promises of a tin pot club.

Tomorrows #Leader, #WxmAFC boss Dean Keates wants a resolution to John Rooney's contract issue as soon as possible.
The Leaders reporter has just tweeted this.

Guiseley must be paying some decent wages to sign players like Cassidy, Asamoah and now Gooney.

Disagree Guiseley is his level, if we compare his stats this year to those of Durrell who we brought in to replace him, i'd imagine Rooney's are better and that's with a slow start. Stats don't lie, he's got a fair few assists and 11 goals in 33..whether you like him as a person or not is irrelevant. Wrex fans should be miffed, no midfield goals in that side now. As for another Penn type, he won't replace those goals and probably won't sign for wrex after his loan. If he plays well, a club will come in and pay more than a mid table side like us and them. Stats don't tell the full story though. He seems to go through purple patches that distort it somewhat. Last season he was a passenger for 3/4 of the season but had a flurry of goals and assists at the end of the year. I rate him but don't think he's as good a player as the stats suggest.

Rooney and two mates seemed to look happy enough in Sainsburys this afternoon. From a personal point of view, I don't like to criticise the Trust, but I question club politics. As a supporter. Rooney has had a great last six games. He comes on as sub against Guiseley and scores twice. He comes on as sub against Dover and he changes things for the better. He made the difference up front. He's top scorer? Yet, club politics seem to dictate things on the pitch? This has got to stop at the club. Despite a terrible start too the season we've suddenly arrived withing realistic touching distance of the play offs where anything can happen. Rooney or a replacement I can see us v Tranmere in the play offs even. You don't keep your top scorer on the bench when he's playing very well and when you're 7 points from the play offs mid February!

It was the way JR left, and his comments at the time that showed a complete lack of class. A fans owned club that had paid his wages for nearly 3 years. Very poor indeed.
However, the stats tell us he was a good player for us. Better than most we have now. Like it or not.
As soon as Macca took over and played him in a more suitable position he started scoring again, and played better. Look at the difference in most of last season's players under Burr, and the way they've performed under Macca. Who's to say JR wouldn't have blossomed here this season?
Don't blame a player (employee) for moving to another place of work for double (?) the wages and a longer contract. Most of us probably would too. You don't know what bull Mills gave him at the time. Good to see he's left Wrexham, though.

He's gone then.
Apparently a deal was agreed and then he asked for more money.
Wierd move. Maybe he can find a club willing to pay him more in the summer (Fylde?) But it's a risk.
