Not really, but until it's mathematically impossible there's hope. Not a lot I agree, but Gary Roberts made a difference yesterday for the minutes he was on. Just hope that he keeps his head over it. Hope is what we are clinging onto the two results last week has given us a little bit of light , just a flicker but a win on Tuesday would put us right in the mix. We need give ourselves a chance by being positive before and during the game, I would suggest if your Not able to go in a positive mood and your likely to be a bit sensitive if the result goes against us. Then stay away I would rather have 1400 committed fans backing the team than vile abuse during the game, boo all you like at the end but not during it doesn’t help. Don't forget we've got Gateshead first.

Hannah is one of the few who I don't question his commitment. To my eyes, he works his socks off with dreadful service. It's not great at all saying something like that though, and he should issue an apology so we can all move on and pull together for what is going to be a crucial few games. Do we as fans want to condone our fans abusing players when they think they aren't trying? I would hope not. If the kid who made the comment had kept his thoughts to himself and shown some sense of self restraint and respect then the player wouldn't have been put into this position. Our players are human beings and have emotions and feelings like the rest of us. Search on Google or Youtube and you can find lots of cases where fans in safety of numbers have abused players. They are largely thought of as quite pathetic, weak and misguided who lack respect for others and many have been banned from clubs. We get frustrated at times and make our feelings known on the terraces but to personally confront a player is a different thing and cannot be condoned. It becomes personal and consequently can get out of hand. Cantona and more recently Evera were both involved in cases and stood up for themselves. They were punished for their responses but the fans were banned from the clubs. There is no grey area. You either allow it or you don't as a club. And as fans. The club should come down heavily where fans step over the line.

Both of who are probably embarrassed. as for abuse, it's been toxic at times at some of the home games. Especially the games that have followed shocking performances. It's not nice and it's certainly not constructive or helping matters, but this team are very hard to cheer on. There's very few moments of quality. Tackles are at a premium and we're so lethargic in our play. Just give us something to cheer for god sake!

Just watched the highlights on YouTube. 33 minutes in second half highlights is Gary's tackle.
If anyone believes that is a red card then football has gone. Absolute joke.

Restrained myself from commenting on the red card until I hade seen it.
35:00 mins in
I have to say that is a yellow at best, all day long, their players make it hard for the ref and to be honest it looks like the ref couldn't wait to get the red out.

You can't tackle like that any more, flying in and out of control, irrespective of whether you get a bit of ball. Yes, game has changed but players need to be aware of that. The rules were updated to prevent skill players being kicked out of the game - and for the better IMO. As for Roberts being a marked man I'd be amazed if the ref has a clue who he is. Think there are a few with agendas on here. Looked to me like a case of trying too hard - showed before he got sent off that he could be an asset, but have a feeling based on past history that it will end in tears. Hope I am proved wrong - we need someone with a bit of commitment but has to be channeled. Need to see him working hard to get up to speed while he is suspended.

The game has become one where player safety is paramount, probably as a result of the so called value of players at a higher level. 10 years ago that is probably still seen as a fair tackle, 5 years ago a booking, but now if you go in hard it is seen as malicious even if no contact is made. Hard to see from the footage if direct contact was made, or if he took the man out after kicking the ball. Either way it is unfortunately a red in today's game whether we like it or not, probably deemed to be out of control. Like to see good hard but fair tackles myself but now largely being eliminated by officialdom. The game has changed, we might not like it but it is only going to get less and less physical. Strange really as although rugby union comes down hard on foul play, the physicality is an immense part of the game, more so now than ever.

I can't really tell from that angle. He does go flying in but that's not to say he's out of control. If that's the best video evidence we've got then there's no chance of getting that overturned. I can understand why there seems to be some mixed opinion on whether it was a red or not, as it's definitely not clear cut. The referee gave it quickly which would suggest he was 100% sure, but knowing non-league referees he probably wasn't sure at all but got influenced by the dramatic reaction and went straight to his pocket. It certainly isn't as clear as the LRT sending off against Guiseley!

Very harsh. In the lead up to the incident thought Mahon was so lightweight in his attempt to get the ball.

I wish the game would toughen up a bit. There's nothing wrong with that - it's just that these days as soon as a tackle like that is made, everyone shouts and screams, the player rolls about several times, the players surround the ref and a red card comes out. How did the game get like this? I blame FIFA really - by failing to clamp down on play-acting over several yearsand encouraging refs to go straight to their pockets for any mistimed tackle, they've gradually taken the physicality out of the game and allowed a culture of conning refs and theatrics to thrive.
How is the game better for that being a red card? Players getting badly injured by tackles is really very rare.

Never a Red Card not even a foul. Sums up the pretty poor display by the ref on Saturday

I think he’s been very hard done by. Feel for the lad. Booking I’d accept but still complain. Definitely appeal.

Was about to say the same thing on both counts - the game has changed and you can't give referees an opportunity to send you off. Also agree that this referee probably hasn't heard of Roberts. That whole "itching to send him off" stuff only works for the likes of Roy Keane and Gazza. It was the nature of the tackle (however clean it may have been) combined with their players' immediate reaction that produced the red card. No point wasting what little money we have left on an appeal because the FA will always side with the referee's interpretation.

It's the kind of tackle you can get away with on a Sunday morning but gives the referee a decision to make in the professional game. Maybe Gary forgot who he was playing for.

Its a real tough one that, seen plenty worse down the years go unpunished. He was low and got the ball but the manner the Thurrock lad went in caused his catipult which is probably what the ref sees and deems reckless.

Similarly the rest of the squad must of forgot who they was playing for this season... And last! Whilst I understand where people are coming from, if we start to accept that we can't be going in for 50/50s then football as we know it is over.

I do think the game has gone a lot more soft at our level, probably influenced by the drama's of the Premiership when everything is replayed in super slow mo and almost every challenge looks like a shocker. The best challenge I've ever seen from a Chester player was Ashley Williams against Curzon Ashton, at the Deva. He was 10 yards away when he eyed up the challenge and was fully committed, absolutely steamed in with an good old fashioned cruncher. He fully took the ball and a fair chunk of the man too who was wiped out, but to me it was a hard and fair challenge.

Whilst I understand where people are coming from, if we start to accept that we can't be going in for 50/50s then football as we know it is over. I agree, pal. To me it's not a sending off. Unfortunately, we all know the standard of officiating at this level and a tackle like that gives the referee an opportunity to get excited and start brandishing cards. It's clear that Gary was trying to get stuck in and put himself about, possibly setting an example to some of these others who happily jog about, dangling a leg out on occasion. It's vital he learns from this though. When he signed my first thought was to whether he would be able to control his behaviour on the pitch as well as off it as he has a lot of people behind him and a real point to prove. He could yet be trusted to represent us at the goatcourse in a couple of months time and we need to know he can go out there and play in a disciplined way. It's no good him playing well for 5 minutes and then spending the rest in the changing room.

Looks like he gets the ball cleanly to me. I'm not even sure it's a foul. Unfortunately the man who's decision it is is standing a few yards away and he has deemed it a red card. Might be worth an appeal but realistically it's not going to be overturned. It all comes down to the opinion of the referee.

That was my first thought on seeing this - Ash Williams challenge was more reckless in comparison. Then there was Sean Hessey lunge which wasn't even a foul, but i'm probably going back further than i care to say
