I cannot believe Calvin Hughes is 6/1 with the bookies. A fan who has no clue or experience about football. Might as well put Ronald McDonald in that list. Not surprised about Carden, we wouldn't be able to pay the compo anyway, we couldn't afford compo for an U8's manager. He has drifted out to 8/1.

Conversely it could be said many think we are smaller now and expectations should be lower....non league for good?! Younger members will not know the relative glory days of promotion and playing in the football league. That should be our expectation. Fan owned.....so our AFC Wimbledon and they have done well on it! Their fan base has grown with success. Ours would also. I think we're now paying the price for some people (no names mentioned) thinking we're bigger than we are! Moreover, I get the impression that there was almost a feeling that the club had a "divine right" to be in the NL and, more so, challenging for the play offs etc. Over the last 12-18 months we've seen a "large budget" blown, committing income before it appears etc which leads me to think we almost adopted a "sh*t or bust" approach. Perhaps certain people were sold a dream by certain individuals. Those "responsible" for this, of course, is the subject of countless posts on here with numerous conflicting opinions. But, the fact remains that it has backfired on us big style. The damage done is not insignificant and will not be fixed in a matter of weeks or even months. Indeed, we may not yet have reached rock bottom Off field, there are signs of life and/or resurrection although there's a long way to go. On the field, we must accept that we will not be a big player AT THE MOMENT in the NLN. Especially IF we go part-time which is my preffered approach for the next year or two. So, I don't think we should be contemplating a rookie manager - we need someone with knowledge and experience at this level to, hopefully, arrest the decline and stabilise the playing side whilst the other issues are addressed. Who that might be is,of course, the big question but, personally, I think someone like Callum may be too much of a risk too soon My concern is that appears that we may not have the skills or knowledge or experience at board level (as MB implied) to get to the right decision However, in the absence of alternatives, we have to accept that they will go through the process to the best of their ability. We need to get this appointment right. Let's tread carefully and not make rash decisions. I believe that Kevin Ratcliffe provided his professional experience in the last appointment that was made (definitely seen around the club at the time) and may well be called upon/volunteer his services if asked

Personally wouldn't go for anyone associated with the club previously in any coaching/managerial capacity. I think the main problem will be the expectation of a fair number of fans. I read a lot of sensible posts on here, saying the expectations should be set at consolidation next season, mid table mediocrity and if we do better, then brilliant. The thing is, i know and many of you know and if we were mid table at Christmas, we will have a good number of people saying how we should be doing better and the manager/players aren't good enough. It's the reality of it. Dare i say, we have a lot of fans that think we are bigger than we are? We're fan owned now, times have changed since the days of ownership and ploughing huge budgets into fighting for the conference title in the 00's. That ultimately lead the our demise... Their fan base has always been bigger than ours though. Thier model has been executed more efficient thus far too. I don't believe our expectation should be football league personally, i think that's a pipe dream at the moment. We'll see what investment brings, but it's absolutely not the case that fans think we are smaller than we are, and that response to my post confirms that. Suggestions of expecting football league is unrealistic, and part of the reason the fan base is falling. One day maybe, but at the moment, we need consolidation not unrealistic expectations.

FROM TWITTER: Have spoken to @wittonalbion chairman Mark Harris about Carl Macauley being linked to the manager's vacancy at Chester. His message is a clear one.
Pointed out too that Macauley has contract until end of next season.
Story to follow.

I think Carden's comments are very pertinent and reflect how others see us at the moment - when Warrington Town is seemingly more attractive than us, who is going to be desperate enough to want the job?

I think Carden's comments are very pertinent and reflect how others see us at the moment - when Warrington Town is seemingly more attractive than us, who is going to be desperate enough to want the job? People could think of this job in one of two ways - either a no-win where the club is in all sorts of problems on and off the field, high expectations from some of the fanbase, dwindling support, no money etc etc. Or as a no-lose - if they do well they will be recognised as bringing a club back from the brink and could use it as a springboard for managing higher up the pyramid, or if they do badly they have the above excuses to fall back on. Unfortunately it's unlikely someone would leave a club to join us, but the ones currently out of a job may fancy it, especially those who like to build clubs up and view it as a big project.

Prbably whittles it down to Herbert who wants it, the Everton guy as he’s not working or Sharps. Heath doesn’t fit the ‘local’ bill despite being a very good candidate

Thing with Herbert is I think he’d recruit ok given he’s a decent scout (as he claims) but his management record is bland at best.

Whats pissed me off the most, and I am not a Bignot preacher or deluded, is that Marcus had all the qualities we wanted in that job advert. When we got rid of him, especially when he was so disrespectfully sacked, I had thought it was because the board had their preferred man in place. Add to that the Ridiculous (!) job spec and time frame (5 days, fucking really), I though it was one large manoeuvre to put a preferred manager in asap. That I could completely understand the board doing, and would have supported them in doing so. However, now banskys clearly just stated that they've not got anyone lined up and are hoping that someone of the required managerial ability to turn around a football club, will be found in 5 days!! Ludicrous.

Crikey, struggling for interest this time around. Just throwing names out there, Steve Davis?
Out of work, local links, experience of bringing young players through etc etc. Had a poor couple of years mind you.

Warrington have a fair bit of dollah behind them and at the end of the day, money talks. This is where we need to reel in our expectations in terms of who we can attract because it WILL be a cheap appointment.

Just give it Graham Barrow We can't even attract managers from the Evo-Stik. It's going to be a very low key appointment unfortunately

Only positive is his ability to progress youth but that's no good without results on the pitch.

Whilst we’re on the subject of moving on, some people on here need reminding that Bignot is part of the club’s history, not future. This post is about the New Manager, so good luck to those who apply. Still several names on the bookies list that will do a good job I feel. Whilst I’m far from happy with this season, nonetheless, I’m looking forward with some optimism to the next fortnight. In regard to the advert, let’s hope players on a two year contract follow a “player pathway” in a direction away from Bumpers Lane.

It is a reality check for us that the Warrington Town manager wouldn't want the job.
I'd have gone with Carl Macauley, but looks like we can wave that goodbye given we'd need to pay some compensation. It appears to be slim pickings, but it's early days yet. There'll be a candidate who comes out nowhere - I just hope it's one to galvanise the fanbase.

I get the need for using the full time setup to match the full time scholarship programme, but surely, just a short term measure for a season we could have looked at reverting to a part time setup to one, get a decent part time manager and two, considering where we are with playing budget, brought through the better and more experienced part time players over what we'll have, which, if we can't get rid of the two year deal crew, will be kids, lots of kids

Just shows how bleak things are when a snooker player is a viable first team manager - I guess he will know all about putting balls in the net - but will he be any good if the net doesnt have a big hole in it ? 😉
