I think the new manager wont need a tour of the stadium, he's already well acquainted with the place. Hope that includes the car park.

Calum McIntyre is now favourite at 2/1 So a man who says he doesn’t want the job is favourite over the people they don’t know have applied or not, nice and clear then ,I can’t understand why everyone doesn’t win a fortune with the bookies

Personally wouldn't go for anyone associated with the club previously in any coaching/managerial capacity. I think the main problem will be the expectation of a fair number of fans. I read a lot of sensible posts on here, saying the expectations should be set at consolidation next season, mid table mediocrity and if we do better, then brilliant.
The thing is, i know and many of you know and if we were mid table at Christmas, we will have a good number of people saying how we should be doing better and the manager/players aren't good enough. It's the reality of it. Dare i say, we have a lot of fans that think we are bigger than we are?
We're fan owned now, times have changed since the days of ownership and ploughing huge budgets into fighting for the conference title in the 00's. That ultimately lead the our demise...

The board already know how it is going to be. They must think we are all stupid. It all is starting to make sense now. Two board members walk out, Young walks out, Our manager is sacked in a car park. Our players budget is announced and we have given til Wednesday for C V. It all just stinks. The board have turned into a big joke. They have pick our new manager before the process has started. All of this is starting to scare me now. Can I just clarify that this is absolutely not the case. We were initially going to advertise the job from Friday but in the end it was decided to advertise the role after Saturday's game and release the job advert on Sunday. Because of this, the deadline for applications was extended to Thursday rather than Wednesday. Also, I know a few people have asked why the role was advertised on social media. Please remember that the role was actually advertised on the official club website and linked to via social media which is the norm in this digital age. To advertise it elsewhere would have been both time consuming and expensive too. This day and age, an email is easy to send along with your current CV. The plan is to have the successful applicant in place by the end of the month, as there is a lot of work ahead of course. But to be absolutely clear the board have in no way decided on the new manager, there is a process to follow and still believe even despite our circumstances, that the Chester FC job is one that is still an attractive proposition to many. Thanks Jeff

Don’t really understand what people’s problem is with the way we advertise jobs. We’re making the process open and transparent and clearly stating the job requirements. There are far bigger and more recognised groups than Chester FC using social media for recruitment.

Younger members will not know the relative glory days of promotion and playing in the football league. That should be our expectation. Fan owned.....so our AFC Wimbledon and they have done well on it! Their fan base has grown with success. Ours would also.

We'll attract North West Counties and Pub league managers, can't see any respectable experience pro wanting the Job after the way Bignot was treated. Not to mention the way the Club is run.

Younger members will not know the relative glory days of promotion and playing in the football league. That should be our expectation. Fan owned.....so our AFC Wimbledon and they have done well on it! Their fan base has grown with success. Ours would also. I think we're now paying the price for some people (no names mentioned) thinking we're bigger than we are! Moreover, I get the impression that there was almost a feeling that the club had a "divine right" to be in the NL and, more so, challenging for the play offs etc. Over the last 12-18 months we've seen a "large budget" blown, committing income before it appears etc which leads me to think we almost adopted a "sh*t or bust" approach. Perhaps certain people were sold a dream by certain individuals. Those "responsible" for this, of course, is the subject of countless posts on here with numerous conflicting opinions. But, the fact remains that it has backfired on us big style. The damage done is not insignificant and will not be fixed in a matter of weeks or even months. Indeed, we may not yet have reached rock bottom Off field, there are signs of life and/or resurrection although there's a long way to go. On the field, we must accept that we will not be a big player AT THE MOMENT in the NLN. Especially IF we go part-time which is my preffered approach for the next year or two. So, I don't think we should be contemplating a rookie manager - we need someone with knowledge and experience at this level to, hopefully, arrest the decline and stabilise the playing side whilst the other issues are addressed. Who that might be is,of course, the big question but, personally, I think someone like Callum may be too much of a risk too soon My concern is that appears that we may not have the skills or knowledge or experience at board level (as MB implied) to get to the right decision However, in the absence of alternatives, we have to accept that they will go through the process to the best of their ability. We need to get this appointment right. Let's tread carefully and not make rash decisions.

My sentiments exactly, had a perfectly qualified manager for the Conf north but the board fucked that one up,biiiig well done,it'll come back to bite us as the worst decision since our reformation.

I think people forget sometimes that managing any professional or even semi-professional club is a pretty sought-after job. I wouldn't have thought a club like Solihull Moors, who've had a pretty shambolic season off the pitch, could have attracted a manager like Mark Yates, but if you're out of work it's an opportunity at a reasonable level of football. We're a decent club and there are many, many clubs who keep treating managers badly, but they still get people wanting the job. We do have to be realistic about who we can appoint (i.e. forget about Graham Barrow for once) but there will be applicants who are more than suitable at the level.

Thinking about candidates mentioned and spoken about in the press I am not overly inspired. One who I can't recall being spoken about and one that I keep coming back to in terms of coaching experience and qualifications would be Kevin Nicholson the lad currently in charge at Bangor. Whilst he is only 31 he has coached for over a decade including positions such as head coach for Derby County's academy and also as a 1st team coach for Cardiff City. He is also the youngest recipient of the UEFA pro licence so has more than the requisite A licence qualification we're looking for.
Probably wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but looking at it dispassionately he fits the profile the board have set out in their advert in terms of age, experience and qualifications. Perhaps the gap may be North West contacts but being at Bangor I'm pretty sure there are lots of north west based players he's aware off. Some will say what about his playing experience? Coaching however is a completely different vocation to playing and I'd just quote Arrigo Sacchi one of the alltime great coaches - "you don't need to have been a horse to be a jockey".
Whether he'd be interested or not is questionable but if we're seriously considering the likes of Carden, Herbert, Macaulay etc he would definitely be worth thinking about as an option.

Football seems to be a separate entity to any other business. Managers are appointed and sacked in worse ways almost every month. Managers wouldn't really be put off too much by that. Lack of any money to spend and salary level maybe more relevant.

I still think the job will attract some decent names. If someone does well with us, in these circumstances, then they will no doubt gain a good reputation to arm themselves with in terms of future jobs. So it will be attractive to those who may have managed higher up but with a reputation to re-build, or the up and coming ones who have done decent jobs at lower levels. Then you've also got the other candidates who are linked because of past relationships with the club (Carden, Reid etc) who have a genuine affinity for us, therefore remains a good opportunity. As I've mentioned elsewhere, Carl MaCauley would have fit the bill on a lower budget, but I seem to recall he also worked with Liverpool's academy. If we are staying full time then we need a full time manager - are the wages on offer going to enough to tempt people to give up jobs elsewhere?

That is not to de cry the Football Working Group as the club needs a footballing strategy going forward based on recruiting and developing the best local talent, but possibly more professional imput. The cheif scout at least needs to be a former pro.

I cannot believe Calvin Hughes is 6/1 with the bookies. A fan who has no clue or experience about football. Might as well put Ronald McDonald in that list.
Not surprised about Carden, we wouldn't be able to pay the compo anyway, we couldn't afford compo for an U8's manager.
