Sounds like the best chance they had came from a soft ball through the middle that took our defenders out, saw that a few times during pre-season I seem to recall.
Very encouraging all the same. Important for Dudley to get off the mark nice and early.

I'm loving hearing the amount of fight we seem to have in us, tracking back, determined, committed - everything a Chester fan wants to see - win lose or draw. Playing for each other and the shirt. Fantastic.

Fantastic. I noticed that Saturday players getting in to Spennymoor faces when a few challenges went in and not backing away

Finally a comfortable away win and abit of positivity, been a while since we could say that, but let’s not get carried away it’s only 1 win. Still nice to be top 😀

Great result and much deserved. The players worked hard for that and deserved it. Some real quality through the team and “Duds” looks like he will get a hatful this season, razor sharp. Great little ground taken over by Chester (probably 600 of the 950 if not more. Midweek Away Win and Top of the league (well at least for a day), can’t ask for much more at this stage.

First game for me. Stopforth and Roberts were head and shoulders above everybody else, different class

Game Review IMO:
Started terribly, second best all over the field and were lucky not to get behind when they went through on goal and completely missed the target.
Scored against the run of play and just gained in stature in the game, Roberts started controlling the game for us, was on another level to anyone on the pitch. Added another - did we deserve to be 2-0 up at half time? Probably not to be honest but we took the chances well.
Second half was men against boys, first to every ball, fight was superb giving them no time on the ball. Roberts MOTM by 10000 miles.
One thing I noticed was the change in he wing backs, at the start of the game they played so deep it was really poor. Smalley was so shaky and JP not much better. After a stern word they pushed up and directed the full backs back and it improved us ten fold.

Yep I've kind of got the impression that we improved as the game went on but that we could easily have been a couple down in the early going. Some important players should be available shortly which will give us a boost. Great to be top of the league again.

What a fabulous night to be a Chester supporter. Nice friendly place to visit and a very happy crowd. I moved round the ground as the game progressed and chatted to fans from Ramsbottom, Salford and even saw some Stockport fans. I chatted with Scott Burton, who will add more steel to the team. We looked a very good team after the initial rustiness. Wish I was going to Blyth, but have something on unfortunately. COYB

Before I start off my ‘’report’’, I think it's sensible to dedicate this win to poor Cameron Rowley who sadly passed away tonight.
Onto the match then, and we were deserved winners. In all fairness though, I thought that we started off rather poorly and struggled to get a real foothold in the game until after the half hour mark. The disappointing signs from Saturday’s performance began to appear, but thankfully we scored two well-taken goals to go into half time with a steady lead.
After the break, we improved a lot. Our lads were a lot more effective on the ball and shown bags of more heart and desire. Dom Smalley in particular was influential going forward and was probably my pick for MOTM. Curzon Ashton were nothing special really, and in the end it turned into an easy win for us. Our overall performance was much more effective than Saturday’s whilst it was great to see us score a few goals. Also, despite Grant Shenton having a rough pre-season, he’s now kept 2 clean sheets in 2, and played well again tonight.
Well then.. we are top of the league for the time being. It means nothing at this stage I know, but isn’t it a pretty sight to be seeing Chester FC at the RIGHT end of the table for a change. Again, our support was outstanding this evening with us more than outnumbering Curzon. Let’s just hope that this win can provide us with a benchmark to aim for more of the same down the line. I thoroughly enjoyed tonight, and roll on Blyth on Saturday. Up Them Seals!

One thing I noticed was the change in he wing backs, at the start of the game they played so deep it was really poor. Smalley was so shaky and JP not much better. After a stern word they pushed up and directed the full backs back and it improved us ten fold. Yep that’s how I saw it. In the first 20 mins we were dire, the midfield weren’t in the game and we were just punting aimless balls forward that kept coming back at us. We were lucky to avoid going one behind after a long ball saw their guy one on one but thankfully he blazed over. The first goal was massive as it really settled us down and from that point onwards we began to control the game. The work rate was key to it all, work hard and you get your rewards and that’s exactly what happened. The lads at the back threw their bodies in front of anything that came their way and Stopforth and Roberts started winning the second balls and controllling the tempo. The 2 up front worked their nuts off to halt Curzon knocking it about. All that hard work pressing paid off and they ran out of ideas as we hurried them into mistakes. Curzon looked nice early on but they were all fart no poo, once we got to grips with it I thought we looked stronger all over the pitch. Still lots to work on, but that’s 2 clean sheets on the trot and it seems like there is at least a good foundation to build on. It was really refreshing to see the hunger for a clean sheet.....we were 3 up but still closing down and putting bodies on the line, it’s been a while since I’ve seen that. Overall, a satisfying nights work and one that I think Bern and Johnno will be delighted with.

Only got to about 4 or 5 away games last season, but there’ll be 3 of us there tonight. Got a feeling we will take over 500 and give the lads a home away from home. See us winning this 3-0. Just sayin .... Really enjoyed that tonight - as others have said we were off the pace first half but grew into the game and scored against the run of play. Thought Stopforth was excellent second half and did the dirty stuff well - toss up between him and Roberts motm for me.
