Only got to about 4 or 5 away games last season, but there’ll be 3 of us there tonight. Got a feeling we will take over 500 and give the lads a home away from home. See us winning this 3-0. Just sayin .... Really enjoyed that tonight - as others have said we were off the pace first half but grew into the game and scored against the run of play. Thought Stopforth was excellent second half and did the dirty stuff well - toss up between him and Roberts motm for me. Stopforth has got some engine on him. Not got masses of quality on the ball but he covers a hell of a lot of ground and does the dirty side of the game tremendously well.

Reminded me very much when we were last in the NLN. Roll up at a local-ish ground, take over the venue, eat them out of refreshments, dominate the opposition, win comfortably and then leave with a smile on our faces. It's been a long wait to get back here. Only downside was that numpty JM in the stand shaking hands with fans and pretending to be everyone's mate.

People shaking hands with a guy who nearly sent us back to obvilion, dished up the worst performances ever witness by a Chester side and had the brass necks to call out the fans. The guy is an absolute disgrace.

Great interview from Stopforth. Seems a real chracter, berne and Johno have installed a tremendous team bond already.

The mind boggles. The mans crazy interviews completely patronised the fans on a weekly basis, and that’s before we get into him spunking money signing shite. Oh well, thankfully we appear to have a team that show far more fight than any of his teams did.

Definite own goal from the superb Smalley cross!! Smalley was on fire in the second half, positively flew up and down that right side non stop. Took him a while to get going, looked a bit lost like on Saturday at first.

Took him a while to get going, looked a bit lost like on Saturday at first. Absolutely, his confidence shone second half. I still hold a few concerns over the wing backs at times, like they need to play high to stop the opposition full backs rather than sitting off, which they did really well second half, especially Smalley.

Agree with most on here - dodgy start that ended up as a comfortable win.
Just a couple of observations. We seem to have the nucleus of a midfield that has the guile and industry that's been sorely lacking recently. Roberts and Stopworth ran the show after an indifferent start. Secondly, with the relatively sparse crowd, you could easily hear our players driving each other, berating and encouraging particularly the defence. Again, an indication of the desire and commitment we've missed recently.
I'm not sure yet that we'll develop into a spectacular outfit, rather we'll simply overpower the opposition who, I suggest, will look at tonight's performance and be just a tad fearful of the new Chester FC. The future bodes well!

The guy is an absolute disgrace. Spot on. Those fans he shook hands with are the ones he castigated and showed disdain for. I actually think McCarthy has some sort of personality disorder. Yeah the man needs professional help ASAP.

Rio. Don't agree with Smalley being MOTM at all. First half he was poor; terrible first touch and gave the ball away. Second half when it opened up he did well. Motm for me was Roberts. Spraying passes and the burst into the box for the third goal and cross fab. Stopforth- what fuel is he on?

I thought that was a seriously impressive performance at points.
You only have to look at Curzon's result at the weekend to see they're a lively side who can cause you problems. After a shaky 15 minutes, we were just so professional and industrious.
There's closing down and then there's what we saw tonight. The whole 10 outfield players all pressed at the right times, pushing them further back until they gave it us back. It didn't keep happening by accident, it was a team effort.
I also cannot recall seeing those levels of effort being put in from a Chester side in a long time. At 3-0 up, our players fought for every single ball and won all of the tackles.
You can just sense what this group is all about, they are winners. BM and AJ spoke about the right characters and the right mentality all pre-season and you can see what they were saying now.
Stopforth was the best player on the pitch for me by a distance. A fantastic, energetic performance. Roberts superb too. Also worth noting how effective Dudley and Tuton were - an absolute masterclass in defending from the front.
I think this team will improve, but tonight was really encouraging.

Just glad that tosser McCarthy has seen what a real Chester team looks like, not his over paid, underperforming pile of shite. And that goes for Bignuts, too.

Good to hear so much about game management. We could easily have lost on Saturday, and it sounds like we could've been behind yesterday before we'd gone ahead.
Being successful in football is about the fine margins that turn defeats into draws, and draws into wins. Last season, if there was ANY possible way we could lose a game, we managed it. Early days but it seems the mentality is just a lot better this time round.

McCarthy is a wally and even his name has a bit of a ghoulishness to it these days. I think we'll shudder when we hear it for years to come!
I would hope Bignot would be welcome at our games though. Didn't really work out but he handled himself well and was treated poorly. For all people go on about McCarthy being a "nice man", I found Marcus the easier character to warm to.

Game Review IMO: Started terribly, second best all over the field and were lucky not to get behind when they went through on goal and completely missed the target. Scored against the run of play and just gained in stature in the game, Roberts started controlling the game for us, was on another level to anyone on the pitch. Added another - did we deserve to be 2-0 up at half time? Probably not to be honest but we took the chances well. Second half was men against boys, first to every ball, fight was superb giving them no time on the ball. Roberts MOTM by 10000 miles. One thing I noticed was the change in he wing backs, at the start of the game they played so deep it was really poor. Smalley was so shaky and JP not much better. After a stern word they pushed up and directed the full backs back and it improved us ten fold. Yep that’s how I saw it. In the first 20 mins we were dire, the midfield weren’t in the game and we were just punting aimless balls forward that kept coming back at us. We were lucky to avoid going one behind after a long ball saw their guy one on one but thankfully he blazed over. The first goal was massive as it really settled us down and from that point onwards we began to control the game. The work rate was key to it all, work hard and you get your rewards and that’s exactly what happened. The lads at the back threw their bodies in front of anything that came their way and Stopforth and Roberts started winning the second balls and controllling the tempo. The 2 up front worked their nuts off to halt Curzon knocking it about. All that hard work pressing paid off and they ran out of ideas as we hurried them into mistakes. Curzon looked nice early on but they were all fart no poo, once we got to grips with it I thought we looked stronger all over the pitch. Still lots to work on, but that’s 2 clean sheets on the trot and it seems like there is at least a good foundation to build on. It was really refreshing to see the hunger for a clean sheet.....we were 3 up but still closing down and putting bodies on the line, it’s been a while since I’ve seen that. Overall, a satisfying nights work and one that I think Bern and Johnno will be delighted with. That is the best analysis I've ever read

The way he was sacked was also a disgrace.

Didn't really work out but he handled himself well and was treated poorly. For all people go on about McCarthy being a "nice man", I found Marcus the easier character to warm to. That's a total fallacy and a myth created by the likes of "Richard". McCarthy came across as arrogant, rude (his interviews with N.T. illustrated this), obnoxious and had this superior than thou attitude which made him an easy person to dislike. The fact he didn't go after the Borehamwood game in 2017 showed he has absolutely no self-awareness. He wont be given such a warm welcome when he comes to the Deva with that club who's foundations are clearly built upon sand as he did last night. I know a few people are ready to give him stick with both barrels. The two managers we now have couldn't be any more different to Mad Macca and they deserve our attention and not the "Deluded One". I think he was mild-mannered, which isn’t necessarily the same thing as being ‘nice’. It also meant he didn’t ask much from the players, kind of like a hopeless supply teacher failing to control a classroom. Even now I don’t think he’s learning by signing players like Liam Davies and immediately loaning him out. He knows Davies isn’t good enough and never will be, but he seems to feel a sense of loyalty to him. Davies is 22, surely at that age you need to either use players or lose them?

McCarthy was just hugely out of his depth. When it began to crumble, he didn't know how to cope with it and showed his naivety.
His relationship with the press showed a man who was losing his mind a bit towards the end.

No problem with Bignot given the car crash he inherited from the ghoul McCarthy. I hope he does well with Guiseley, but obviously not when we play them.
