Bloody hell, I remember that game and Billy Large riding his bike to Prenton Park. Just to show our ages Billy, it was 59/60 I thought it was 60/61. 14200+ was the gate. Chester Team (the old 2-3-5) was: Ron Howells. Ronnie Hughes, Ray Gill. Bobby Hunt, George Spruce, Frank Clemson. Jimmy Cooper, Billy Foulkes, Walter Kelly, Johnny Pimlott, Gordon Richards. 58 years ago, where has that time gone? I remember them all as if it was yesterday - 2 full international players in that team even though it wasn't a very good team. I think that was the season we played in green shirts.

Were we in green then, or had we gone back to blue and white? In green and gold for two seasons 59/60 and 60/61 which was followed by six or seven seasons of white with fine blue stripes al la ‘the famous five’.

Just to make us feel even older everhopeful, after beating Trashmere we were drawn away to Mansfield and I remember travelling with ‘George Taylor’s Coaches’ - big day out for an eleven year old on his own armed with his green and gold bobble hat and a bag of sarnies!

Sometimes it's horrible getting old! :-( That's more than 58 years ago. My first match was Chester 2 Southport 2 (22/4/60). The only players I remember from that match were the 2 full backs and possibly Billy Foulkes.

Wish we could have something similar again now - especially if we scored the same number of goals as well!

Weren't they the ones with a depot beside the Town Hall, near where the Crosville bus to Upton used to wait?
