Jon, do yourself a favour and just concentrate on managing the team. I saw the interview after the Barrow game and it was worrying and this is even more so. The pressure is mounting and it doesn't sound like he's dealing very well with it. I like JM and the way he carried himself earlier this season. And I still believe he is the right man for the job. I would have taken where we are in terms of the league and points on the board but he seems oblivious to the fact that since December 26th form has been dreadful and just not good enough. And I agree with others, that managers have walked for form like this. Stop worrying what certain fans and Neil Turner are saying and worry about turning this form around.

Sorry, should have put a positive as well (before I get challenged) - he must be a good speller. Come on Derry, keep up. Jon says the people who post all positives should get 'challenged'. Those who post negatives should get 'hammered' Hammered! There would be nothing left of you Billy unless he's advising a few pints?

When will managers learn to just not comment about fans' forums or social media? If they're asked about it, they should just say they don't read it and they accept that people have the right to have their say.
Mark Wright used to come across as an absolute lunatic at times with the way he went on about forums, and as much as I respected him I used to think Neil Young got a little too preoccupied at times with what the odd person was saying about him online. For all his faults, Burr was probably the best manager we've had for accepting and embracing the social media side of supporting the club.
Like it or not, this is how people with a similar interest communicate and share ideas in 2017. It's ugly at times, but it can bring people together too.
By and large, I think what he's asking for we already do. If someone says something overly negative or positive, they do get picked up on. Come on Macca, there's no need for this silliness. I think if you do actually start to read this forum, you'll realise the vast majority respect you and want you to do well. Let's all concentrate on ending the season strongly, eh?

It's a fact people on chat forums have very thin skins and are easily offended , a football manager has to take so much abuse and crap from fans but if he has a little dig back he hurts the little darling feeling

Macca, how about picking the right formation and team for the first half of each game instead of the second half?
Maybe this is how you gain the respect of the fans instead of talking rubbish in newspaper articles

Our manager was the same when he was with Burr, allways blaming the budget, ( or the officials ) when he signed he knew what the budget was, so stop using it as an excuse ! He must be the most negative manager in all the leagues, first his aim was only to get 50 points, and then accept that it was OK if we concede a goal a game as long is we managed to score one ! He has the weirdest football ideas, and do not expect anything to change in the future . He will sign the majority of the existing squad with improved salary and then get relegated next season !
Does anyone know what the hell is he on about using the word "stuff " in one out of five sentences !!??
I agree 100% he has lost it, possibly never had it, waffling on about comments on here, wow, what a muppet !

When managers and owners start getting riled by fans forums it's usually getting desperate - remember SV did the same and Coco The Clown Smith - I have supported Chester for years and can't remember a run of home former like this - and it's these home games that I judge the team on - I haven't enjoyed a home game in months and am getting close to abstaining along with 600 odd that already have - I can get quite wound up after a poor game but only because it's my club that I love - JM is a nice bloke but his total lack of acceptance to the slide has been breathtaking and now he has a dig at the few remaining fans left - so there you go Mccarthy some positives some negatives

50 points is a poor target to meet as we could get relegated on that amount, surely a positive target would be the previous points tally of 54...no one likes getting criticised but in this job its best not to say anything sometimes

Did he say he'd mark some of the papers or something? All a little bit desperate for me. Yes and check for spelling mistakes. Its not a few negative cimments on DC that McCarthy should be worried about, he should be more concerned about the 600 fans who have stopped going to the game because of poor results. First rule of a business - don't blame the customer.

If you read this board jon please to take the negative comments in your stride and learn from them (You can't please everyone) we are all supporting you but when you refuse to see what everyone else sees (that's where your right hand man comes in ) maybe you need to take a step back and take those blinkers off ..

I knew comments like this were around the corner. Macca has had an easy ride in terms of critics compared to previous managers. He keeps saying we are doing well so why is he worried about fan comments? If you were happy with the job you was doing surely you wouldn't need to have a go. Would prefer the manager to get on with it rather than having a go at fans, not many of us left with the gates going down (another story) If it's an issue why mention it, keep behind closed doors, the critics wil be a lot worse now, clearly bothers him and others. I tend to agree. The best thing JM could have done would be to make no comment at all about us the fans and especially Deva-chat. All it will do is further split the fan base. JM has had it pretty easy from us during this poor run of form, largely because most of us realise that sacking him is not really an option. I don't like this 50 point target non sense. If that's all we're aiming for then that's all we'll ever achieve. Whatever the budget for next year, I want JM to come out say he's put together a squad capable of finishing in the play-offs. I want us to aim high and not be content with 50 points and surviving another season. Give us something to get excited about, a decent run in the FA cup or a trophy final at Wembley. It's got to be our turn soon. We were doing so well and even going into the game away at Dover we had a chance of breaking into the top 5 and it's fell apart since then. Not only do I want to hear JM talk us up as a strong force for next year, I want him to be brutally honest when we're dogshit. We as fans are not stupid and when we're crap I want him to acknowledge it.

This forum is always monitored by 3 mods who remove anything abusive, you also have a report function to highlight anything you'd like removing. If we were to do anymore then we spill over into the same territory as the other DC when people were getting banned for having strong opinions. If Sir Fred wants to start a McCarthy Out topic after every game then I might not agree but I'd never dream of moderating it as he is perfectly entitled to his free speech and opinion.

I feel this criticism of the players and Macca is a little harsh, we were bullied on Tuesday by Cox and his mates and this interview was clearly frustration at the outcome of the result, performance of the referee and the results in the last few weeks. Two points to really consider, 1 Macca is clearly the right man for the job the style of football has been better this year, we have picked up points in games that we have not been able to in the past. The atmosphere is at the club and the ethos he has created is probably the best in the league aside from Lincoln. Give me the community club feel over the big spenders, if Macca was to go who do people honestly believe would do a better job?
2, We are in the national league and players do make mistakes, everyone in their jobs makes mistakes and I am pretty sure know one is doing it on purpose! Give the players a chance, give the manager a chance, get behind the players, the gaffa and enjoy the next few weeks after all it is a long summer.
Questions to ask as a fan:
Have we declined in performance this year? No, vast improvement in the style of football and yes with the poor run that we are on the position that we will end up will be better than last season. That says to me it is an improvement. Is it about times fans realise where we are as a club? Yes we are a national league club and it will take 4/5 years to get out of this division if we are lucky. Selling players like Sam Hughes is one of the only ways we will increase the playing budget alongside fans turning up and getting behind the side. Would fans really want to adopt a similar stance to FGR or Easteligh? I can remember the controversy over #piegate, imagine Deva chat if we were to become a Vegan friendly club? It would be great to have a FA Cup run similar to Lincoln, Sutton etc. But I would also prefer to be in a situation we are in compared to Southport/Woking going into the final few games of the season.
All in all, football fans love to moan but something to consider the grass isn't always greener we are lucky to have a football club and the previous history of what happened to this club is a prime example of what we do not want to happen again in the future. Give me mid table in the National league with a manager and player that cares about the club than no club at all.
Good luck to the lads on Saturday and safe travel to the loyal followers! #CYOB

He says he's never been on DC but other people at the club read it. If that is correct then maybe they would help matters by keeping quiet about what is being written on here, rather than telling him what has been said as appears to be the case.

If anything, this will stoke the fires of those with tendencies towards abject negativity, as they will now assume they are being taken seriously. It's important for everyone to be heard, but to put this into context, the negativity is not representative of the majority of supporters of the club, merely the result of a very vocal bunch of individuals who either have an agenda or who simply like to winge Either way, they are perfectly entitled to voice an opinion , whist others are perfectly entitled to disagree or ignore them. Recognition of such posters by a club official probably adds little value. Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

Like it or not, A football club is in the service industry, people pay to be entertained, people pay to enjoy the show., you could disagree and say it's a results based business, but did our crowds return when we were pushing for a play off place, no they didn't. Modern day technology and social media have the opportunity to become critics both good and bad in all walks of life, tripadvisor and the likes. A lot of companies have embraced these sites, learn from them and taking out the complete guff acted on them. So if JM is getting fed snippets from down stairs, here's my review of my season so far.
If you like peace and tranquility then this is the place for you, not the busy hustle and bustle of other places I have been too, but the staff welcome you with a friendly smile usually, apparently there is a grumpy chap on the main gate , but I usually park up the road. Don't worry about getting here early and laying your towels down on the sun bed as there is plenty of room for all guests. Food is generally the same each time, pies, sausage rolls etc, but be quick as they are usually sold out, drinks are served in plastic cups or have the bottle tops taken off so you can't use them as missiles, this is all a bit 1980s for me and maybe we should move with the times a little. If you choose the all inclusive option you can have the a la carte meal in the " legends lounge" not used that but I hear it's reasonable for the people that can afford it, maybe the hotel should give some away in the half time draw during the bingo occasionally to let people get a feel of the place, they may even go on to use this facility paying cash in the future, just a thought. On to the entertainment, some performances are better than others, there have been a couple of juggling acts on and I can't make my mind up which is best though, the young lad will be here next season, and the other lad has got a stint in Tenerife planned, so good luck to him. A couple of guitar players were here last season and were dreadful, they have obviously had lessons and have improved immensely this season, I look forward to watching them next season. There is a strongman on every night, who I have to say is many people's favourites, his act is an unusual one,he just sort of stares into space a lot and everything people throw at him, phone books, house bricks, leopards, he usually returns them from the direction it came at twice the speed, he is only a young lad too and I have been impressed with him, he couldn't go onto playing the palladium or anything but maybe the Rotherham hippodrome one day. There is a singer who had a lovely voice, and can sing all manner of songs, the entertainments manager has had him doing a Stevie Wonder medley for a while now, but I think it's all agreed he is much better at doing Otis Reading. He has had a number of record labels sniffing around him lately, chances are we have seen the last of him before he does his UK and international tour, just hope we can hear dock of the bay more often than superstition before he leaves. There is an group of street dancers that all seem to know what they are doing individually but It doesn't quite work when they come on together, the timings out, the steps are bit ordinary and the little guy does occasional get his solo breakdance routine ( his windmill is awesome) but the rest of the time it's all a bit flat and predictable at times. This hasn't helped by the dance captain having a fall out with Equity over biting another performer at another venue, but he has been in and out of the troupe a while now with one injury or another. A couple of young lads who are supposed to be brilliant dancers have been brought in, but we have hardly seen them at all, perhaps they get stage fright. There is the grand finale of the acrobats, who have split opinion, one is solid who although his tumbles don't seem to get much height he nails the landings more often than not and you can see how hard he works on his act, he has got steadily better this season, I think by the introduction of a new trainer, but no one seems to know what he looks like as he has had a bit of tv work, this year. The other lad, well he spends more time on his arse and arguing with the hotel inspectors than concentrating on his act, he has loads of potential but I can see him playing the Buxton opera house next year as some sort of pantomime villain, oh we all miss the young lad whose somersaults were outstanding before he suffered the bad injury, perhaps the entertainments manager could have loaned in another acrobat from another hotel for a few weeks. The hotel itself had a big refurb some twenty odd years ago now and the place isn't the same, gone are the gothic features and the atmosphere, replaced by the ultra modern swish breeze block and the rather annoying chap on the PA system who just seems to shout at everybody and then have his own private jokes over the tannoy which nobody seems to understand or more importantly care about, I just put my earphones in when I need to.
Overall I would rate this as a five out of ten, maybe a six at a push.
Room tip: the more expensive rooms get the sun, right in your face usually, I prefer the less expensive room, as many used to do, the party atmosphere in this block of the hotel is trying to make a come back and good luck to them, there are even plans to put some flags up in there next year, should improve it no end, the hotel just needs to fill the rooms. As a reminder, occasionally there are a group of tourists who although they said they would never come back in million years come back every year, so the place does get a bit busy usually in September or March although for the life of me I can't understand why they all overbook one end of the hotel and leave another block half empty, doesn't make sense to me.
Would I return, I think I would book a week next time as two weeks is getting expensive.

I broadly agree with Midlands Blue above, I feel that the manager has been very unlucky with injuries (Mahon, Akintunde, Killock, Chappell, George and now Hughes) but do feel that he maybe signed too many players that underperformed last season. We sometimes act a small club too, I thought against Forest Green we were beaten by the way we set up, whereas when we were beaten by Lincoln at home we had a real go and the game was fantastic to watch. I feel he would win the fans over if we were to do this than try to stop teams.
I also feel that as a club we don't help him. We don't have a proper football structure in place, there is little support to him (Calum does the youth, CI is constantly away on TV duty, we have no Chief Scout etc etc). I know that the board were offered help in implementing a football structure at the club for free, maybe that offer should be snapped up?
But overall, Jon McCarthy is on a steep learning curve, and I'd much rather have him here than Paul Cox, Ronnie Moore or Steve Burr. He really does need to ignore fans forums though. They are a soup of intelligent people, well meaning wannabee managers, wind up merchants and bad losers. Haters gonna hate Jon.

JM needs to wake up and smell the coffee. If it was not for the run of games when we shot up the league with Ian Sharpes as his assistant, and all the points we accrued when Sharpes was here .we would be bottom of the league and all but relegated already!! Ever since Sharpes went JM has struggled with his team selection, tactics and basic common sense. OK. We are only fans, what would we know?. But even as lay people it is obvious that A) Richards is not good enough for this division (Con/N at best) B) Hudson and Astles together at CB just does not work. C) Playing one up front (Alabi) when it is obvious his game is based on having a striker playing alongside him. D) We gained most of our points playing 4-4-2. So why play stupid formations that do not work. Sorry for all of the people who thought he was the answer to our prayers BUT JM was 50% of the problem under Burr and the cracks are now showing with Sharpes gone. I fear for next season because if we get relegated i doubt we will ever get back

Mid table with seven games remaining, and forum contributors are suggesting that our manager should be sacked. One of the said contributors also suggests that part of the Sam Hughes potential 'windfall' should be used to pay the manager off. I fail to see how removing JM, and utilising the 'Sam Hughes windfall' to do so would in any way benefit our club in the long term. At the risk of conveniently being deemed a 'happy clapper' (whatever that is) I personally believe that Jon should be judged on the entire season, and not solely on the post Christmas slide. As such, I feel that he has earned the right to take us into next season. Finally, out of interest, who would these contributors like to see appointed to replace JM ? What sort of budget would he be given ? Would an improvement be guaranteed ? What if the club sunk even lower ?

Unless Jon changes his attitude for a positive one then endure the next few weeks is the more likely outcome . Please dont compare us to Southport ,they are perennial strugglers in this league , although if we carry on underperforming both on and off the pitch we will end up with attendances similar to theirs . Mid -table ? last time i looked we werent in 12th place and unless we amass 54 points in a very poor league we will have regressed .

I think people are completely missing the point of his words. All he's saying is that people who constantly post negative comments with nothing constructive are having a bad impact on the club. He's asking for balanced views. He's also said for people with rose tinted glasses to post suggestions of improvements or changes. There are people who can't wait until we lose, they revel in abusing the whole club both on and off the pitch without offering solutions. And when we win they are nowhere to be seen. Match threads when we lose are two or three times longer than when we win. People are taking this as a personal insult when all he's saying is that people need to recognise when the club does well, such as earlier in the season or the community work being done off the pitch, and when things are going badly rather than rant mindlessly about everything, remember the good things that have happened at the club and offer constructive criticism. We have played badly of late and I have questioned some of Jon's tactics and left some games thinking that we've been the masters of our own downfall. But there are some individuals on here who come across as right nasty people and, although they claim it, don't seem to have the club's best interests at heart. If they did they would actually enjoy us winning. Post something positive for a change, you might like it.

I've always admired Macca's honesty. He's saying what most people think, that some people on here are all about the negatives. You only have to see the absence of some people on this forum after we've won to see that.
To me, you can spilt his time as Manager into 3 sections...
- The few games he took over at the end of last season... brilliant - and ensured we stayed up
- Up until Christmas - brilliant - fans talking about possible play-off push
- After Christmas - we've struggled.
It says everything to me about the fickle nature of some fans, when the first two can instantly be forgotten the moment we are on a bad run.
