I think if it was deemed a top 1% targeted virus then the cure would be a lot quicker in coming forth...

At the moment though, this is very music an upper class virus. A lot of the wealthy and well-travelled are getting it, such as Nadine Dorries, the Olympiakos/Nottingham Forest owner and now, reportedly, Tom Hanks.
Africa, contrary to the pattern of most recent epidemics, has been relatively untouched so far. You do worry about what the consequences could be if and when it starts spreading in the underdeveloped world.
Can't make this up. 3 people out of 127000 cases and of course the 80000 in China are the elite with houses in Mayfair and Beverly Hills. Well, China is where it came from, so it stands to reason that all kinds of people are going to be affected there.
Outside of China, it's been spread by travel. Of the other 47,000 (not a huge number of people in the context of the entire world), at least three are pretty rich and famous. Do you think that would be the case if you just took 47,000 people at random? Does suggest some pattern as to how the virus is spreading, as does the fact that it's hitting a lot of high-end tourist destinations like Northern Italy.
Suppose the point I'm making is that if it is some sort of plot to wipe out the weak and vulnerable, it would be a funny way to go about it.

As I see it, the problem is simply that nobody knows for certain as to how this thing will pan out. So, into this vacuum comes rumour and speculation which morphs into all sorts of conspiracy theories fuelled, yet again, by social media.
I take a rather simplistic view as to what happens next. Do I listen to the advice of people like the Chief Medical and Scientific Officers or the "experts" on Twitbook?
I know which one I'll take notice of.
Let's see what happens in the next few hours and days.

Can it be transmitted by you know, men entering other men, like in that way they do, doesn't seem right to me but they do it, God put man and woman on this earth to further the development of the human race, if it was just men doing men and women doing women the world would come to an end as this is no end product, therefore no continuation of the human race. This worries me greatly, I haven't slept for a week worrying about it, is anybody else worrying what would happen to the world if all relationships became same sex, the world would come to an end and there would be no more football, conference or otherwise. Admins pleeeeeeease hit that button I’ve banned him. No place for homophobia on here.

Did he actually say this or did he essentially say this or did you interpret this in your own way to suit your hatred of all things tory. Philip Schofield: Is the delay essentially trying to spread this out so it doesn’t all happen at once and overwhelm the NHS, and that you can actually delay it into perhaps the summer when it’s a little bit quieter and the ordinary flu might have died down a wee bit, is that what you’re doing? Boris Johnson: Well it’s a very, very important question, and that’s where a lot of the debate has been and one of the theories is, that perhaps you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go and allow the disease, as it were, to move through the population, without taking as many draconian measures.

Probably best for the FA to just null and void this season.
It’ll prevent the Armageddon of Liverpool winning the league at least.

Ahead of today's Cobra meeting, Nicola Sturgeon has announced that in Scotland, mass gatherings of 500 people or more will be banned from next Monday.

They don’t do this with the flu every winter. Massive overreaction. Embarrassing. That's an embarrassing statement. Very ignorant

Just to provide actual facts, as your clearly a Village Idiot. No country currently has a vaccine to prevent or cure this virus. The 'overreaction' from all parties is to contain as many cases of the virus, to reduce the potential for it to spread to vulnerable people. The worst case scenario should this containment fail, would be a considerably higher number of deaths in at risk individuals and at the same time a reduced NHS workforce, which would cause chaos. Measures such as closing public gatherings is strategically important to preventing the spread; whats more important, a couple of games of football, or potentially '000's of lives? Yours Sincerely, An Actual Medic Your last line is overly simplistic and only an actual idiot would answer the former as opposed to the latter. I agree it needs to be strategic - but again I go back to my point - take people out of stadiums and they'll be somewhere else, guaranteed. You can't be this stupid..

Ireland is shutting down all schools, colleges and public spaces for the next few weeks. Meanwhile, we're saying over-70s shouldn't go on cruises and people who feel a bit poorly should stay at home for seven days.
Surely one or the other of us is getting it drastically wrong?

Don't wish to nit-pick but if the ground is in Wales why should the take advice from Health England? Did you really just ask that ? I guess you did, anyway I think you will find that the welsh assembly will follow the same advice from PHE. If you know any different please let us know and post any links.

I've always been on the "let's not panic" side of the fence, but I do wonder how our science can be so different to that of our nearest neighbours Ireland, as well as Denmark, which has a similar climate to us, and to a lesser extent Norway. I don't trust the government, basically. They're shown repeatedly that they don't prioritise public health, and I feel that once again they're putting the economy ahead of people's wellbeing. It's telling that Johnson even said the idea behind banning sporting events is because of the strain on public services (which are underfunded by his government) rather than to, you know, stop people dying. I thought his speech yesterday was a complete shitshow, somehow managing to generate panic-inducing headlines while at the same time treat the subject with flippancy.

It's a weird experience going round the shops at the moment. The shelves do seem depleted, and not just for sanitary products. It reminds me of what Ireland was like when I visited shortly after the recession, and what I fear this country could be like once Brexit really takes hold. A man in front of me was buying four family sizes blocks of cheese yesterday, among other things. Is that really necessary? At the end of the day, if people insist on buying up all the soap, toilet roll and other commodities, other people are going to have to do without them. Their hygiene and health will suffer, which is how the virus thrives and spreads. If you don't want to get it, you need other people to be clean and healthy as well. And the cheek of Trump closing America's borders to European visitors. This is a country that is not able to even test everyone for the coronavirus. If they had half the health system in place that most of Europe does, they'd make things a lot easier for themselves, but they'd rather just keep telling themselves and everyone else that they're the best country in the world and refuse to learn from others. We have a friend in Oklahoma. There is not one place in the whole state that can test for the virus - and those out of state CHARGE FOR THE PRIVILEGE!! And Johnson wants to sell parts of our NHS to these get rich quick merchants!!

The toilets on the Harry Mac aren't the best. Wonder if there will be soap in the dispensers and paper tissues that actually work on Saturday? This goes for the whole ground of course, with hand washing being a major factor.

I think they have got it all wrong and and the rest of the world is right. He seams content with about 560,000 people dying if you listen to what was said. Just doing the maths talked about by the Medical Officer they appear to want herd immunity which means 85% of the population catching it with a predicted 1% death rate = 560,000.

The entire situation only tells me one thing. Capitalism as a system has failed. LOL I'm probably going to regret asking this but how have you jumped to that conclusion based on the spread of this virus? The US and U.K. governments are playing roulette with their people in order to protect the markets as this epidemic could lead to a worse financial crash than the subprime mortgage scandal that caused the 2008 worldwide financial crash. Coronavirus highlights gap between socialist and capitalist responsesJohnson’s “dither and delay” strategy is turning us into a global outlier.
