Jon is not going anywhere. If you want us to sack him and quickly run ourselves into debt then that's a very odd opinion on your part. Hurling abuse at a manager and damaging his and the players confidence, will worsen the atmoshoer in and around the club. It will give us a bad reputation for any new players, "oh that's the cub where the fans just spout abuse at management and players" - may I add this has already started as Asa Hall pointed it out in a pre-match interview the other day that we will get on or players backs. It doesn't help whatsoever, infact it has a negative impact as it's ruining the players and staff confidence and putting the opposing team at an advantage On the flip side, we can support the team and help them get out this, prolonged, sticky spell. Bad form does not last forever and WE AS FANS can play our part to show Jon our support. He's already said in a previous interview how my lot behind the goal have helped him and his squad - LETS KEEP THIS UP. This is Jon's first season in football and I completely understand the feeling towards Sharps and how much he did for us, but Jon is the man we have now and we need to get behind him as I KNOW the man can succeed in football - he will learn from this season, from the mistakes he has made, and will become stronger from it. Come at me moaners. Jon has my full backing. Woking at home I will be singing loud and proud, JON MCCARTHYS BLUE WHITE ARMY. This is crap. There's no way we should get behind these wage thieves. With the exception of Lynch, all the players who aren't going to be going to bigger clubs are not even trying. When Mahon comes back there's no way he'll be able help these losers. The assistant manager is doing anything outside of the studio, and Macca should have been Sharps' assistant at best.

It's not nice reading about people wanting someone to be sacked but given the dreadful run of form it was inevitable this question was going to be raised, especially in today's blame culture.
I thought McCarthy was deserving of an extension around Christmas but the length for a club of this stature and income it has become a millstone. A 12 month extension would have been justified but not two and a half years.
The board should meet with McCarthy and ask what his recruitment plans are because it's blindingly obvious that seven or eight of this squad are not of National League quality. I'm sure they would be assets to clubs lower down the pyramid but unfortunately not in this tough and brutal league. If the vast amount of players stay then I fear for next season.
It is also time for the club to get a full time assistant in and a scout like Alex Hay so that players like Hughes can be found and a production line developed.

No. Start of the season target was avoid relegation and a top half finish, which is still on the cards. Home performances haven't anywhere near good enough but where do we go from here? We need to get behind him, give him until Christmas if things haven't changed by then it's time to go. Management in football these days is a revolving door and who can say that's a good thing? Given his track record since Sharps left, by Christmas it may be too late to save us.

Should he be sacked? Yes absolutely. We can all see next season, when we are watching this same crap, on crowds of 1,500, firmly routed in the relegation zone. It dosen't take a genius to see that far ahead. Unfortunately some very giddy members of our board have made that impossible, therefore we are stuck with this reality. It's very depressing and shows nothing has been learnt from the Steve Burr debacle. Did they really think if they didn't wrap his signing up in January someone might poach him? Based on the fact we were knocked out of both cups early and were already dropping like a stone I could hardly have seen it happening. It's a long way back for him, just like it was for Steve Burr. Lots getting on his back now and worryingly he seems focused on trying to retaliate, when the best way to do it would be to prove he can manage. He's proved he can retaliate, he's yet to prove he can manage.

For me it is important that we develop gradually and as a club have continuity. I was supportive of Jon taking over from Burr, more for this reason than because of the run we went on to save ourselves from relegation. I was very happy for the run we went on this season and the position we found ourselves in the table, and while I felt we were getting results ahead of our performance at times, was also happy to praise the manager for this.
I am against sacking Jon now, though the 2.5 year contract is putting the club and Jon under a lot of pressure from the 2017 performances. The bottom line is we are playing poorly at the moment and from comfortable mid table we are likely to avoid relegation by the skin of our teeth, which hurts more than if we'd always been just outside the relegation places.
For such a small squad injuries have been horrendous; Killock and Akintunde nearly all season, Mahon (probably our best player excl Hughes) for nearly half the season, Horwood, George, Vassel and many shorter term ones have put pressure on the squad and the players heads have fallen, they expect to lose, while earlier in the season they had much more confidence. Jon is making changes to overcome this, but this is also not working.
Positionally and tactically we as fans have seen the problems; Hudson not Hughes partnering Astles. No one to compete with Richards to partner Alabi, too defensive an approach to matches, conceding position and having to soak up too much pressure.
So for me I would give Jon until Xmas with the aim to be mid-table, anything less an he then has to go. He has a chance to improve the squad this summer, and he deserves that opportunity.
I like was he is trying to do, but the poor run is very demoralising. 😟

Come on then, Brains of Britain, what should happen? Bear in mind the size of budget - compare it to the other clubs in the National League. Look at the injury list, bear in mind the long term casualties that make up part of a small squad. Then discount your experience earned whilst playing FIFA, or some other such game, and tell the World how you will appoint / manage / coach the side to loftier heights. Ate Chester playing free-flowing total football, in the manner of 1970's Ajax? No. Are they safe from relegation, with a chance to build on what they've got? Yes. But so many people would rather sacrifice a chunk of next seasons budget to get rid of the manager. Will these then turn on the new manager next season, when, with his reduced budget, lead the side into a relegation battle amongst the largely full time National League clubs?

No one with half a brain expects free flowing football we support a team at the wrong end of the football pyramid, what we do expect is a manager to pick a team that suits the players we have. He consistently doesn't do that and has consistently played players out of position game after game. His after match interviews are embarrassing and he is completely oblivious to this run we are on. He has harped on about the earlier season form after every defeat and consistently argues with Neil Turner when challenged on things. I don't want to see any part of the rainy day fund used paying up contracts but if we don't change it we will be relegated in 13 months time and I guarantee that is something we won't recover from. No one is doubting he is a hard working person who cares, unfortunately he hasn't got the team motivated to play for him. These are the same players as earlier on in the season we had and the biggest difference we are without Ian Sharpes who Walsall evidently witnessed was a massive influence and took him to league 1. Sorry Jon, time to go before you do irreversible damage to this football club.

Has to go, the last 15 league games we have taken only 13 points and there are only 3 teams below is the form table over that period so judging by recent form we are a relegation certainty next year.
Everyone expects a few poor games and a poor run of results, that is football but this free fall has been happening for 4 months now and someone needs to address it and deal with the situation.
To all the JM supporters - how can you defend such a diabolical run of form?

Got a lot of time and respect for JM and for me he gets until Christmas. Several players have shown development this season. And as said above, the injuries have been bad. But that all said, this home form is horrific. I've always said, home form is the bread and butter. And this at the moment just isn't good enough and the rot needs to stop.

There has been a lot of debate on here about JM the last few weeks with strong views both ways from certain quarters. Let's put it to poll and see the general consensus of what the fans are truly feeling. No, he should not be sacked. Very poor run of home from yes, nobody can hide from that, but given the various circumstances around injuries, budget etc, he has earned time to work with this young squad. This club needs continuity and a manager that understands the limitations of working at a supporter owned club like ours.

You say it will be worth paying him off in the long run, isn't that what was said when we paid Burr off and look where that has got us, you can't just keep chucking money at paying managers off. I agree that home form since Christmas has been awful, me and my lad drove to Solihull on Boxing Day, which for me was the turning point when Jonny Hunt was wrongly sent off and it disrupted the team selection and Mcarthy has been tinkering with the team ever since. Get back to 442 or 4411, we need to get back to being difficult to beat doing the basics right, play your strongest team and play players in their positions For me I would try Lynch Vassell Hughes Astles Hunt George Shaw Dawson Lloyd Durrell Alabi Or Durrell in the No10 roll behind Alabi

It's funny how nobody talks about the budget when we are doing well, yet as soon as we struggle it comes out the woodwork.
As soon as a manager starts mentioning the budget you know they are feeling the pressure. I think its embarrassing of fans and managers alike to moan about the budget. McCarthy knew the budget when he took the job, just like Burr did, just like all of us do - so please, let's not start acting like it is the reason we have lost 9 of 10 home games.
I agree we have been very unfortunate with injuries though and have no problem with McCarthy stating this. If we could have played our strongest 11 in a 4-4-2 more this season then we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I think McCarthy deserves a chance next season - I hope he learns from his mistakes this year (players out of position, strange tactics, even stranger comments in the press). But I would be worried if he does keep most of the squad as is being rumored. For me Hudson, Richards, George, Killock, Chappell and Joyce all need to go in the summer. We simply cannot afford to carry players who are not good enough or are persistently injured. My big concern is that McCarthy, and the club, do not have the ability to go and find better players, and hence we will probably see the majority of those sign new deals.

He is not good enough, end of story and the club will be in worse shape with him in charge next season. Worse than paying off his contact will be relegation next season, we would never recover from that. He has proven over the last 4 and half months he isn't good enough and his tactics and team selection have been absolutely appalling weeks after week. How we can continue to play 451 time and time again at home and pack the piss poor midfield we have is a joke, our best player continually played out of position to foolishly accommodate his best ever signing. His signings of Marsh, Obrien and Davies really poor and Dawson only player who is okay - certainly not a great find as hasnt set us on fire. Absolutely desperate for a striker when Akintunde injured and hasn't brought one in. Absolutely guarantee there are loan signings or free transfers out there that we could of utilised. Some fans need to face facts and look at our points haul since xmas, if we carry that into next season we will be relegated. All the hard work to get us back into the National league will be completely undone. You may be a nice guy JM but your not a manager, your a college coach. Whatever medication you are on please share McCarthy is not good enough, that is proven. This season has been as bad if not worse than last. Continuing as we are, regardless of how much you sing is in seriously risking the future of the club If we go down next season with an average attendance f 1,600, that is the end of CFC

We're being dished up some truly crap football at home lately, and to be honest away as well but managing to nick results. I can see us getting hammered Tuesday but hopefully not. One thing that annoys me about this thread having had a quick read, is that most people are under the consensus that Sharps was the only reason we did well earlier this season. Nobody actually knows that, Sharps could have become manager and we go through the same "rut" because of the limited squad. The worst part, is that Most of the people hailing Sharps as the great messiah, are the same people that were slagging him off as a player here. Make your minds up. I prefer posters like Billy, as least he is consistent with criticism and knows his mind, most people are jumping on the Sharps bandwagon having spend last year ripping the lad.

I agree something needs to change, you can question Mcarthy for his tactics in some games, for me we should never be playing such a defensive 4-5-1 at home. Not many people mention that when we were on our good run we had virtually a full compliment of players and we played a 442 high pressing game, and played football, then we seemed to change the system maybe due to suspensions and injuries and we now seem to sit off teams and give them space let them play and when we do get the ball we play percentages and hoof the ball into the space and expect Alabi to perform miracles!! If we are honest we have had no luck with injuries especially with Mahon, akintunde, and Vassell, like I mentioned the sending off of Hunt at Solihull which was never a sending off but his suspension then messed things up regarding keeping a settled back 4 as did the injuries. I think had Mcarthy had a full compliment of players, or maybe not having certain players missing so much we would not be talking about this situation. I think if we had been able to keep playing the same team as went on that run we would be at least 8-10 points better off i think Mcarthy should be given the chance to start next season, BUT and it's a big BUT he needs to be honest enough to tell the players who have not performed and haven't done enough to be kept on and have the ruthless streak to do it. For me there are 5 or 6 players that just either aren't good enough or don't perform as they should, I won't mention names as I don't think that's constructive but Mcarthy cannot fail to see what the fans see. I don't expect our players to be Messi but I do expect effort and commitment and to play for the shirt. for me that's where certain players need to have a good look at themselves and need to do more.

Unfortunately we can't afford to sack him,but it all comes down to money. We need more money simple as that, something needs to happen and soon. The separate 3G pitch is a good idea to generate and save money and we need to actually try and get the wheels in motion and move forward with this idea instead of just all talk. The money of Hughes sale, our savings and grants and crowd funder should cover most of the cost and maybe a business loan to cover the shortfall. If not this idea then something else because at the moment the club is only going backwards. It's not just the football on the pitch which is in a rut but the off the pitch too

Still playing Hudson at CB proves this Ever stopped for a second and thought it might be because Hudson and Astles are the only potential centre back partnership we could have going forward with Sam inevitably leaving us? Really? Surely you play your best player, in their best position until the day comes they leave. He has all of pre-season to work on the Hudson/Astles partnership - not that that's the only option he has anyway. Disposing of Hudson and bringing in someone who can actually read the game would be a more positive solution. Why disadvantage yourself now? Surely Sam playing well at centre half improves our results, lessens the pressure on him and maybe even puts a few more quid on the tribunal fee in the summer.

He desperately needs balance in his coaching staff I feel. Big Chris is not the man to provide the balance that Ian Sharps provided earlier in the campaign.
I feel the most important signing we need to make in the close season is an assistant manager who can commit to the club on matchdays, and who can provide Macca with an alternative viewpoint in the technical area when the match is on, which means not standing 10 yards away from your gaffer during the second half providing no input whatsoever.
I still like Jon, he comes across as a really nice guy, but he is being badly let down by some of his support staff for me. Yes the problems with selection, tactics and substitutions are there for all to see, but would that still be an issue if he had a proper full time assistant manager there to work alongside day in day out?

Whether he should be sacked or not I don't understand this 'but he is a nice hard-working guy crap ' he is employed to do a job which he is doing badly at the moment after a decent start , he is skating on thin ice for me. He hasn't lost the majority of fans yet but if things don't change then he will have to be sacked ! It's incredible our board gave him a long contract after what happened paying Burr off? I didn't want Mcarthy in first place as i felt he was part of last season's problem but he seemed to make us a tough team to beat before the wheels came off. Why hasn't another striker been signed ? Anybody could see we have been desperate all season up front, yet he signed Davies, Dawson, O'Brien, and Marsh all midfielders ?
