It's clear though that many countries, with different types of government, are struggling to respond to a crisis that is constantly evolving. Exploiting this worldwide tragedy as an opportunity to attack anybody who voted Conservative is pretty messed up. Spot on. Look at the contrast between Sweden and Spain in terms of dealing with this pandemic. Totally different approaches with neither having little affect it appears. It’s an Indiscriminate virus and so little is known about it means it is difficult to deal with. With more and more evidence coming out that this virus was caused by a pangolin or bat being brought into the human food chain it is those countries who have allowed these barbaric “wet markets” to continuing trading after the SARS and MERS outbreaks who should be the ones subject to criticism and attack. It is just as weird to eat a bat or a pangolin as it is to eat a pig or a chicken. It's pretty barbaric that male chicks are thrown into a macerator because they can't produce eggs and aren't suitable for chicken production. You ever watched that happen? It's pretty barbaric to gas pigs to death just so you can enjoy a bacon sandwich, is it not? Have you ever been to a slaughterhouse? Vile dog-whistle racism.

Was wondering how long it would take before the thinly-veiled racism came in. Once again you are making yourself looking very silly with that comment. Don’t judge me by your own very low standards in which you have stated on this very board you wanted a whole race of people exterminated which is blatantly racist. The fact that a tiger in New York zoo has caught corona virus illustrates that it can jump between species. This now backs up scientific theory that the virus has jumped between species. One thing that would hopefully come out of this crisis is that these “wet markets” in which the likes of otters, pangolins, bats, badgers are sold are outlawed and also the world looks at the way we farm animals and treat them. In this country we are without criticism as well.

The whole US-UK "chlorination chicken" thing seems like a disaster waiting to happen. It's interesting reading up on it. It's not even the chlorine that's the main problem, but the fact that the chickens are kept in such poor sanitary conditions that they need to be disinfected.

I do have compassion I have also had a very hard life it may sound like I lack compassion but as they say walk a mile in my shoes and see if you have room for compassion for any but your own. Shocked you’ve had a hard life, because you’ve never mentioned it previously.

When nearly a thousand people were dying a day in Italy, our media rightly portrayed it as a horror show, a national catastrophe. 938 people are reported dead in Britain in a 24 hour period, and most of media are telling us the good news that the government's strategy is working.
Though, to be fair, I’d say the government’s strategy IS working. Perfectly. Herd immunity, take it on the chin, some of you will lose loved ones, protect the economy and if that means some pensioners die, too bad.

Population of New Zealand. 4.8 million Population of UK. 67 million Not a good comparison NZ population is 4.8 million. UK population is 67.9 million. UK Covid-19 *inpatient hospital* deaths (as they’re the only deaths we are reporting) = 7097 NZ deaths if at same rate as UK’s 7097 * (4.8/67.9) = 502 Yet they’ve only had 1. So yeah, they’re doing it better than we are. Nothing to do with a smaller population. Sorry for quoting myself(!) but to add to my point in the quoted post... Look at Germany - population 83 million with 2,280 dead UK 67 million with 7,097 dead So really you cannot just put it down to population levels.

Yesterday in the UK the virus took lives equivalent to 10 Hillsborough disasters. The last two days have a higher death toll than The Titanic.
Yet the media are asking when Lockdown can end, rather than why on earth it didn’t start sooner.
A slow response cost these lives.

I don't believe you should attach yourself religiously to one party, but at the same time I don't really understand people who say things like "I voted Labour last time, but this time I'm voting Tory" or vice versa. The ideology behind those two parties should be completely opposite. Have you changed your mind that much in five years or less?

Speaking of the media, the Sun can completely do one with its attempt to hijack the Clap For NHS movement as something it is spearheading.

Going back to Lockdown, there are rumblings that it’ll end sooner than we think. Today’s ‘scientific expert’ (government stooge) is laying the groundwork for potentially relaxing the lockdown using, and I quote, “increased anxiety in the general population” as a justification.
I assume the increased anxiety is from those making money out of people with little option but to work for piss-poor wages in Covid19- risky jobs. Putting profit before people.
Sincerely hope this isn’t true.

I just find it a bit strange that before 2015, if people were asked to name their top five political priorities, they might have mentioned healthcare, education, housing, environment, immigration, but I think very few would have said membership of the European Union. It wasn't something I ever used to think about much. Then it suddenly became everyone's top priority, and the only thing that had changed is that we had a poorly thought out referendum on the matter due to pressure from the far-right factors of the Conservative party, and that we'd given it the name 'Brexit'. I kind of think calling it 'Brexit' was the worst thing that happened as that made it a mindset rather than just an option. Before it had even happened, we were calling it the "Brexit vote". The Scots call theirs. the much more neutral "Indyref".
More so than the idea of leaving the EU (which doesn't really bother me that much), I hate the fact that Brexit has clouded everyone's judgement over the last few years and led to irrational behaviour on both sides of the debate.

Checking out some of the worldwide Coronavirus figures on Worldometer, it seems that the countries in the Southern hemisphere are experiencing relatively low infection and death rates at the moment which could confirm that the virus does not like hot weather. Interesting to see what will happen in these countries as they are beginning to move into their winter season.

The election was only ruined by brexit because the remainers wouldn't accept the result of the referendum. True to an extent. Both sides to blame, as I said.

Things we've learnt so far from Covid-19:
The US and UK administrations are criminally negligent We should be celebrating, not castigating our immigrants Our key workers are our lowest paid workers Bankers and hedge fund managers are not key workers The science changes when our Government gets it wrong Our elderly, disabled and autistic are expendable In a crisis, we hoard toilet rolls Working from home is possible after all We have the worst media in the world We are a nation of selfish bastards (panic buying) We are a nation of caring people (Community volunteering) Socialism really is a good thing Boris Johnson is hopeless Our NHS is precious and must be preserved at all costs Priti Patel has gone missing Nadine Dorries needs to go missing We're all getting hairier Football is important Keir Starmer is unimpressive

Interesting article. Basically, says that the Governments in Europe and the USA, had been worned for years about the threat of a global pandemic but chose to do nothing or cut back capacity, thinking it a once in a lifetime event or one like Sars or Mers, that would be confined to South East Asia. In comparison, the counties, in South East Asia. learnt the lesson from Sars and Mers and prepared accordingly, with mass testing, isolation and quarentine of the carriers, and immdiate lockdown of areas, where the virus emerged. Just consider the death rate in the USA, the UK , Italy and Spain to the death rate, in China, South Korea etc. The UK and particularly the USA were woefully underprepared and are playing catchup. (unfortunately, with people's lives) And what is needed is more not less, international co-operation and funding, to fight future epidemics. (Take note Brexiteers)

Wonder how many people have caught up with gardening jobs, painting wallpapering and general house maintenance. After repointing a couple of valleys on my roof repaired fences, and weeding lawn cutting. I'm startng to think what next. There's just me and the wife and after 54 years of marriage conversation is a bit thin on the ground. I'm missing my football. Fishing. And seeing my daughters and grandkids. but we have all got to do it, so let's just get on with it. Stay home keep safe and look forward to better times

And seeing my daughters and grandkids. but we have all got to do it, so let's just get on with it. Stay home keep safe and look forward to better times It's tough, no doubt about it, but I think we just have to take as many positives out of the situation as we can. I don't think the Daily Mail and other newspapers are doing much for the nation's mental state by carrying these awful, bleak front pages about how long the lockdown's going to last, based on pure speculation.
As you say, people are getting jobs done that they've been meaning to do for years. Speak to someone you haven't spoken to in a while, whether it's by phone, text, social media or whatever. Be creative - write, paint, draw, or build something, and don't worry about whether it's any good. Try something new, or learn a new skill like a language. I'm trying to write a children's book, which is something I've wanted to do for years and let's face it there will never be a better opportunity than now.
And remember, when this is over, it will be the biggest liberation since the end of the war.

Remember when Corbyn was asking why we weren’t in lockdown like almost every other country in Europe?
The press lampooned him and told people to stop questioning the govt.
The truth is we’ve had an effective opposition. We just haven’t had an effective media.
Has anyone seen the tweets of the political editor of the S*n over the last couple of days? Embarrassing.
