Some bizarre elements to this. Clubs aren’t really committing to much at any level at the moment, so for a conference North club citing six figure losses to splash on signings when we don’t know when the next ball will be kicked strikes me as odd. I don’t want that business model at my club, I would rather have a club at all in future than be hearing of new signings just now. I’ve never quite got my head round Solihull splashing cash for Adam Rooney to sit at home. I m not going to lose sleep over losing AA, he’s decent on his day but equally theres been plenty on here about him ambling and constantly carrying injuries. Just as I would a barman moving to a better paying pub just now, I wish him well and hope with some trepidation that it works out for him. Works both ways, I guess footballers have to make their money short term but I couldn’t believe players would come to us under Curle, Rush And wright etc knowing sooner or later their employer would be liquidated

The player I always felt sorry for was George Waring, who has the potential to be another John Murphy. Waring is a decent targetman, who holds the ball up well, who could thrive with a goalscorer alongside him. Asente for all his size is not a targetman, but a goalscorer and in our position, we need players who are going to be playing week in week out, not someone who commands a top wage and spends a good percentage of his time nursing old, groin injuries

I thought our lowest crowd of 1,600 was a bad one on a cold tuesday night, Asante will have to get used to less than 150. How the hell can they possibly pay those wages. Gloucester's crowd declined when they were forced to play at Evesham in 2007. They were playing to average gates of 800 which for the ground they played in was not bad. Then dropped to averaging 400 at Evesham which was 25miles away. Their new ground will have a 4G pitch, the same size as Tottenham s pitch, and will have a comfortable capacity of 3000. There is also land to expand. I have been told that the owners have done there studies to see if the fan base is there to justify spending millions on a new ground and it is. I would rather play in a full ground rather than having a ground that can hold 5400 and only 1600 turn up. wouldn't you. In respect of AA. Murphy was financing him. When Murphy left, the vision that AA was given when he signed had been severely dented. All clubs need a cash cow. Gloucester have them. Passing the bucket around at half time, having raffles and fund raising is not going to give you a good chance of promotion. I feel sorry for not only the supporters but the managers and how they must feel with there budget slashed. The only way Chester will do well is by supporting the youngster at the club and possibly elsewhere and giving them a chance. People are saying that the club can wait for players that have been off loaded from clubs in the 2nd division that are either going under or struggling financially. That there will be some bargains. That is nonsense you will end up with players that are not good enough or are looking for a last pay day. Adam Rooney has gone to Solihull and he is on £3000 a week. Who is financing that, the owner is. AA was offered more money at a number of clubs but that was not the reason he chose Gloucester, it was the whole package. The players they will be signing, the manager who he knows from youth days and the owner who wanted him. The clubs vision has been dented and been put back a couple of years, AA cannot wait. It would not surprise me if the managers get an offer and go. That is all I have to say on the matter.

Although I do agree with the sentiment I’m pretty sure AA signed a good few month before GW. Danny Elliott will shine next season our top goal scorer easy if he stays I may be in the minority but don't think Elliott is good enough too lightweight all he has is pace

I think you all best get used to players leaving and contracts cancelled, that's where we are at now with out a generous backer like stuart Murphy. Like they say be careful what you wish for . another crank Murphy didn't provide documents that was needed the club were prepared to listen so get your facts right before you post on here

Disappointing but to be expected. I kind of got the impression he was a bit of a loner in the squad, perhaps because he wasn't from the area. Cracking player on his day and comfortably a 20 goal a season striker in this league. Would like to see Elliot given a proper go now, or Lloyd Marsh Hughes as I've heard plenty of times now from various people that he's the one of the best young prospects they've seen at this level. Si from what I’ve seen it would be nice to see those two be given a chance up front together. Two with plenty of potential given time and a run of games.

Disappointing considering we kick-started Akwasi’s career and there was a strong bond between him and our supporters, but he’s presumably gone for more money and is closer to home, so you can see why he has moved. There is no doubt that Gloucester City are a club on the up with them returning home from their 13 year exile, making high profile signings, and having some investment, but I do feel that this is a step back for him. I expect Gloucester to be challenging for the play-offs next season, but considering the likes of Solihull Moors and Torquay United were interested in him (two clubs higher up with money), I’m a bit perplexed. There is no doubt that he is National League or even League Two pedigree either, so for me he’s knocking back his development at a time where he needs to be knocking on that EFL door. It will be really hard for us to find a replacement, especially without the helping hand of Stuart Murphy. However, we have recovered from set-backs in the past regarding the likes of James Alabi and Ben Heneghan, and I am sure we will overcome this one. One really annoying thing about this current situation though is that we cannot sign any players, yet our out-of-contract players (who could potentially participate in the play-offs) are able to sign for other clubs. It was inevitable that Asante was going to leave anyway, but who’s to say that other out-of-contract players such as Danny Livesey, Anthony Dudley, or Danny Elliott could follow suit, even though they could participate in the play-offs (if they somehow go ahead?) We could be left with a wafer thin squad which in turn could seriously affect our slim chances of promotion. Anyway, Akwasi produced many magnificent moments here and although I am quite disappointed, he parts on very good terms. Good luck for the rest of your career Akwasi!

I can see loads of players being released And as for losing our contracted players, the obly one who would be difficult to replace is Jackson.

We had one ‘successful’ season in the NL out of all the rest 2 of which we was relegated Notice how Wrexham, Telford Hereford Aren’t exaxtly setting the world on fire being tan owned... Telford sold to private ownership a few years ago and fairly sure Hereford's Supporters Trust only owns about 40%?
AVFO will probably know for sure.
Telford co-owners voted to end their disfunctional version of fan ownership in favour of private ownership in 2016. The majority shareholders are the Pryce family, long term sponsors and supporters of the football club. Hereford FC Supporters Trust hold around 43% of the shares. There are four individuals who each invested £50,000 into the club at its inception. The clubs constitution appears to have been structured so as to guarantee them (the investors, if they so wish - and to date they most certainly do) an inbuilt majority, as the trust is limited to a maximum of three places on the board out of a maximum of seven. I think HUST currently have two reps on the board.

No surprise he has left, a few more will probably go as well. We can't hold on to all our players if we haven't the money. There will be a few more players available to come in with the current situation but the better ones will probably be picked up by clubs who will be able to afford them.
This is the chance to see if our youngsters are up to it, some will be, some won't. Let's hope they are. I think we are presently at our level and as usual the gates will only pick up if we are challenging for promotion.
Simple we have to leave within our means.

Can I see us replacing Asante’s 20-25 goals a season though? I’m not so sure. We are in a much better financial position than many other clubs though, and as you say we shall see how this all pans out. However, (if they do stay) the likes of Matty Hughes, Anthony Dudley, and George Waring will seriously have to step up to the plate to help overcome this loss. We will most probably make one or two fresh signings in that department anyway, but the above didn’t find the net as often as they should have this season and will have to prove themselves next time around (if they stay). We can’t just rely on one man.

Last season (18-19) was a season where we flirted with the playoffs and without injuries I believe without a shadow of doubt we’d have reached them. During the season quite a few of the academy players were involved, namely Murray, Thomson, Noble and Marsh Hughes and although they all showed glimpses of quality they were nowhere near ready for the level. In a utopian Chester world we’d have all the above playing every week plus Goodwin and Crilly etc with Calum Mac running the show. The reality in all of it though is that there’s zero patience amongst the fan base to start experimenting. We know only to well that if we’re not winning games the crowds will drop and we continue in this same cycle. We lose one of the best strikers I’ve seen play for Chester and people are calling for a youth team player who hasn’t played for a year to replace him. Replace him with quality, let’s create a buzz and excitement and sell season tickets off the back of it not off the back of the managers coming out and telling us we’ll be fine without him, because we won’t.

It was inevitable that Asante would move on but disappointed he has clearly opted for money rather than waiting for a decent club at a higher level. Shows a total lack of ambition so I'm guessing he has been offered silly money. Big risk for Gloucester too, given his injury record. No need to panic. We have some decent young players under contract, so let's just wait and see what happens. Due to Covid we are in uncharted territory.....clubs that are signing players now are crazy, and that's exactly why Asante has gone to Gloucester. We don't even know if there will be a next season....clubs at our level can't play without crowds. I'm not pinning my hopes on Elliott, Dudley or Hughes. When the situation becomes clearer there will be plenty of better players available.

Officially gone to Gloucester, wow. For some reason I thought he was under contract until the end of next season and we'd be due a fee? But judging by the wording, he's just left on a free? Slightly embarrassing losing our top scorer on a free to Gloucester. 🤬 How true. I thought i would check on our status after some time, hoping by some fluke we may play at Gloucester as I am nr Bath. My only match this season. So to see he would go to this rather small club is a shock.

RIO Not having a go by any means. OK it seems that they may well have some investment and a new stadium and have signed two ex Moors players who will be solid at conference north level I know. They said they have been languishing just above the conference north drop zone for many years so aside from money and being closer to his base it’s not really a step up at all. Although I’m aware that 1800 here’s compared to 500 means nothing if someone is providing £££ Wrexham should do better than Borehamwood on gates alone but £££ makes the world go around even at this level these days

Easy to see how some of our fans were seduced by the idea of a takeover. Maybe get a year or two before it all goes horribly wrong, in most cases, but fun while it lasts. Difficult to see how fans' owned clubs can compete...seems there's always someone on an ego trip willing to splash the cash and be the big fish in a small pool. I think we did the right thing by not offering Asante a deal amidst the current uncertainty but still hurts when we are losing players to Gloucester. Asante did seem to struggle to get motivated some times so will be interested to see whether his injuries flare up again

That Gloucester City are able to throw around money on crowds of a few hundred is exactly why a budget cap should be brought into the NL. Too often the competitiveness of the league isn't based on a clubs ability to be sustainable, but on if they are 'lucky' enough to have a benefactor at the time. 9 times out of 10 that benefactor disappears and either the club goes with it or it returns very quickly to it's natural position in the pyramid. If one good thing was to come out of this sorry Covid mess it would be that a budget cap would be introduced from next season at NL level. It would mean that clubs who attract decent crowds and produce revenue through proper means would not find themselves behind the short term chancers. As for Asante, he was great on his day and carried the team at times. We became too heavily reliant on his goals and the other strikers could not step up to the plate. I can remember patches where he would be out injured and a rotation of our others strikers would be given opportunity but failed to deliver the goals. However, Asante was streaky - he would have 5-6 games where he would be unbelievable, get injured and then return and amble around for a few weeks. His form since January reflected that for us. As someone above has pointed out there should be a lot of players out there available for next season and we need to be in a position to snap up some of the quality which, in a normal off-season, wouldn't be available or within our financial means. I would keep one of Elliot or Waring and then look to the market. Neither of those two have produced consistently in a blue shirt and I think there will be better available during the off season for the reasons above.

I've absolutely no problem with AA moving on for reasons such as money, location etc given he was out of contract and was probably offered a deal that, let's be frank, many of us in a similar position would find attractive especially in these uncertain times. Whether it turns out to be a good move for him or his new club remains to be seen. However, for the life of me, I can't fathom Gloucester or any other club making such commitments at a time when no-one knows how or when footy at our level will return. I've got a feeling that such "rash" spending may come back to haunt them at some point.
From our point of view, a cautious and "let's wait and see" approach may well be the best strategy until such time as we know definitively what's going to happen. OK, it may mean the personnel being radically different from what we had a few weeks ago and the "quality" may or may not be there if budget constraints bite but, in the current climate, I'd be delighted just to watch 11 players, whoever they might be, put on a blue and white shirt and run out at the Deva with me there to witness it. It seems like a million miles away at the moment but it will eventually happen A far bigger issue than players coming and going is making sure that we have a club and set up in place for when things resume but that is not the subject of this particular thread.
As a final point, we may well come across AA in the future. If so, I would hope that we show our respect for what he did do for us in the time he was with CFC

Slightly embarrassing losing our top scorer on a free to Gloucester. 🤬 How true. I thought i would check on our status after some time, hoping by some fluke we may play at Gloucester as I am nr Bath. My only match this season. So to see he would go to this rather small club is a shock. You might be even luckier. If our ground isn't ready for the new season we'll be playing our home games at Twerton Park.

The money ( over £1 million ) has been put in by a local builder called Melve who it is said is a long time very enthusiastic supporter - so best of luck to them.
