It is difficult to see why we ended up with Johnston having to be last man. Shouldn't be a 40 yard hole in the middle of a defence. That was the first thing I thought when I saw a clip of the incident shortly after the game. Agree with everything that has been said about the ref but it's poor from us that they got in to that position so easily. It was as though we'd completely over-committed in search of an equaliser - shouldn't be leaving ourselves so exposed at the back with such a long time still to go. Stemmed from a Joel Taylor long throw which we normally send up Grand and Livesy for, they're heading back when Burton who I think is covering the counter with Johnson wins the header leaving him out of position. Don't think we can put too much blame on Grand and Livesy as they've been a vital source of goals from these sort of attacking positions, it's what happens to the shape of the team when the ball comes back over the halfway line again.

That starting 11 has no pace at all in the middle of defence or central midfield. Very vulnerable to the counter.

Thanks for the explanation. Didn't show that in the clip, and I couldn't recall from the game. Was surprised at the large gap there, as Livesey and Grand are good defenders. Question then is "who should have been marking Mooney?" Can't be Taylor, Livesey or Grand. Presumably it was Johnston, who switched off. So it was his fault, rather than he nearly saved us.

Only just had chance to watch the highlights back and they certainly don’t give that atrocious decision any justice do they? The side-on camera angle and especially the angle behind the goal shows that John Johnston made little, yet unintentional contact, and the ref has been fooled by Dan Mooney going down before he was even touched. It’s a farce, but there’s obviously nothing we can do now so we must use this pain as motivation to give this league all we’ve got next season.

Our second goal was everything we can be. Not sure who wins the ball in our half but it's a great tackle to get the move going, some excellent passing into feet, culminating in a sublime cross from Waters and a classy finish by Hughes.

Won back by Stopforth, fed into Hughes who lays it off for Glendon with the switch out to Waters. Lovely move to be fair!

Love to see a central midfielder doing that...clean tackle, gets the ball moving forward simply but quickly, allowing us to counter with their players out of position. As Ian Rush would say: it's not science rocket.

Alty 2-0 up at York

Shocking from York, considering they're budget would even be one of the highest in the League above, it just shows the largest budget doesn't guarantee anything. You wouldn't think they're full time either considering how many players are overweight.

So far in the playoffs for both North and South, I think the away team has won every game, except ours!
Not sure being at home is any real advantage with no crowd, and in a way the teams that finished 2nd and 3rd might find it harder because they didn't have any match practice last weekend.

Sad thing is that York who most thought would go up have just lost. We had such an opportunity. I think we lost it because we came out at the start too tight. Once loosened up and playing we were by far the better team. So in a way we lost it, rather than they won it.

Makes the Alty result even more galling now they beat York. I didn’t see either of us getting past York but there you go - suspect they may well do it now.

Watched some of the second half from a dreadful pitch level camera angle. York were a bit like strangers whereas Alty clicked I thought, benefitting from having played us and Halifax in a friendly the week before.
I know they've got some big lads anyway but York didn't look fit at all.

Could do with Boston winning it. I don't particularly love playing Altrincham but there's a lack of local games in our league, given it's a regionalised one.

Hope it's Boston s though and both York and Alty stay down with us

We really don't want a league with Fylde, York and Boston in it. Add Gloucester, Brackley, Chorley, Gateshead and maybe Alty, it's going to be tough to win it.
Was hoping York woukd go up, to get rid of them. Next best option would be Boston.

Alty have won at York in three different competitions this season, which suggests they’ve well and truly sussed them out. Bit of an anti-climatic way for York to say goodbye to Bootham Crescent.

We still don’t know what the divisions will look like next season. If the EFL are just going to resume as normal with full-time professional clubs in L1 and L2, and National League Premier the same, then we could see tens of clubs go to the wall.

Naturally I would disagree😀 We dodged a bullet last week against you but today we were superb all over the pitch some of there players looked Over weight and unfit yet again Jordan Hulme was excellent with his hold up play Mooney gave them problems all Afternoon before his substitution Going to be another very tough test next week. If we don't play you next season Then best of luck.Think you will be up there with York, and Brackley will be going for it again.

Tend to agree. They built a team over 4 years to get out of this league, by that time it had peaked. Started again now. Still leaves a competitive league.

What makes you think there will be any changes in the next month? It takes ages to make changes to leagues. Usually it comes in the following season, after it's all agreed, if at all. They'd have to agree a split on who joins which division, at what level. Can't do it retrospectively. Imagine if you finished 9th, and had you finished 8th you'd be in a higher league? Won't happen. Clubs have already got players on contract, and are signing more, to start training for a September or early October start. It may happen if the upcoming season is suspended at some point. As clubs will be trying to survive then, especially if no furlough scheme available.

From a purely selfish point of view I hope Boston’s it’s a terrible journey over there and I love going to Alty on the train and it’s great for a few beers in the market before the game
